Kingsman or King Kong?

I accept the fact that most of the world did like the movie which they call Kingsman: The Secret Service. But, I have to disagree with saying that “everyone liked that movie”, mostly because I could find nobody in the theatre or rather the multiplex of my choice liking this movie. May be it is because we are more of common people who choose to think different. Come on, this movie is not even original. Adding random sexual joke in the end adds to nothing. Still you might ask why? Here are the reasons.

Kingsman is not working in its genre: Kingsman: The Secret Service is a complete failure in its genre of spy action comedy as it somehow manages to be unfunny throughout its run, and the best scenes of the movie were already shown in the trailer. It is surely not action comedy, and even if you divide that in the middle, there is not much gained. About the spy stuff, it is too boring and a lesser version of what we have seen in many movies.

Here is a movie that worked in its genre. May be new generation needs more nonsense.

Here is a movie that worked. May be the new generation needs nonsense instead.

It has nonsense in the form of violence: This movie makes no sense with its violence as it has the most disgusting and the most boring scenes of violence, with people being torn apart, their heads being blown up and a hatchet to the head become amazing. I would say that if any kind of violence which is shown on the screen becomes enjoyable as comedy, it only shows a certain amount of degradation that occurs in the minds of the audience.

The script makes no sense even for a braindead zombie: There are dumb movies and there are incredibly dumb movies – among them, this movie has found a new low. Get Smart and Johnny English were so much smarter, but the problem with the critics and the new generation people is that they go for cheap jokes, and it is the reason for the glorification of this movie. They actually misguided me into watching this ridiculous movie which stands as the worst of the year so far.

The failure to know what is comedy: Whatever this movie feels as comedy doesn’t even exist. There was not even one little moment of laughter among he audience when this movie was going on and that shows how much this movie degenerated into something boring and ridiculous. It fails to pay tribute to the movies that it mocks, and is also a complete failure in bringing the fun element. It is like a bloody drag that happens from the beginning to the end. Yes, there is the message to be an idiot, that this movie provides.

Do you know what makes a good spy action comedy? Not Kingsman, but Get Smart.

Do you know what is a good spy action comedy? Not Kingsman, but Get Smart.

Better action comedy movies: Yes, there are too many of them, and as I have mentioned earlier, there are so many of spy comedy films which are actually funny unlike this piece of nonsense. There are better Indian movies which do nicely with action comedy, and the only thing that this movie manages to be is the Hollywood model of Besharam and become one of the worst movies ever – you don’t listen to the critics with this one; this is plain stupid.

I don’t usually waste my time writing reviews about stupid movies, but this is not that much of a review. This is just a collection of things that came to my mind while I came out after the show, with a few things added from what people were talking about in the theatre. Let me make one thing clear here: it is only when one becomes short of ideas that more and more blood and gore is added to a comedy movie. They are exact opposite things, and it is time that people realize that some things are not supposed to be funny. Movies do need violence because there are situations when it is needed, but that is not funny – it gives out a wrong impression to a mindless new generation. After all, murder, torture and rape, even when brutal in depiction, are funny for some people, isn’t it?

*I agree to what The Telegraph said abut this movie – “obnoxious”, and they have given this movie the right rating – the minimum. ***The images used in this blog post are from the Official Facebook Pages of Johnny English and Get Smart.

Harthal: Kerala’s Purge

I don’t know how many of you have watched the movie The Purge, and its sequel The Purge: Anarchy. None of these two movies actually released here, and so it is not possible that it did actually make the point for the audience here. But The Purge is a movie that should be watched, at least by people at this part of the world. This is a movie that needs attention and provides some interesting thoughts.

In the movie, what they call the Purge as an event in the future United States. During the time period of 7:00 PM on March 21st to 7:00 AM on March 22nd, the twelve hours become a different time period. It is the time when all kinds of crime becomes legal. It only says that no government official of a high rank is to be harmed, and big weapons are not to be used. People stay inside their houses. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

The United States is yet to know the Purge outside the movie. But we know a lower level of the same, and it is called Harthal. Yes, Bandh has been banned, and so we have Harthal which we celebrate as Bandh and do the same things. There was a time when Harthal was not much of a big deal, but now it is Bandh. The name changes, and if Harthal is banned, may be we can call it the Purge, I guess.

So the Purge seems to allow getting rid of those negative emotions. Kerala has had a lot of that event, even as it has been less in number in the last few months. But what is more surprising is what it has to do with the common men if a party wants something. Why is it that they trouble the common man and destroy property if the common man is not their enemy? Why do they shut down the common man’s opportunity to live and earn? Why do they bother people from other states and cause trouble to them as well as the foreigners?

prge (2)

If they are protesting against their party members being attacked/arrested or needing the resignation of a minister from the other party, why are they not protesting at the right place where it matters? What did the common man ever do to them other than giving them votes? Is it like give us votes and we will give you Harthal in return? Don’t we have too many holidays already? Does bothering the citizens of India come naturally to them? Why the use of violence? All political parties should think about this.

The harthal against petrol and diesel price hike is even a bigger surprise. By not allowing people to travel on one day, they seems to save the fuel as well as money. Does that change anything? May be it does – there is one more holiday on the calendar. May be they should declare it as a festival and fix a day for it every month so that people can known a lot earlier and prepare much better. After all, there is some protest going on all the time. Yes, people might support if you ask them nicely, and let them make the decision after providing enough reasons, instead of declaring and forcing it yourselves.

The Purge is not so different from the Harthal even as we have not turned that evil yet. We are doing our little Purges with Harthal, as we are not that evil yet. There are stones being thrown at vechicles and tyres being punctured during most of the Harthals. There are worse incidents known to happen, but lets stop this someday and not go in the path of The Purge. After all, we are educated people and lets not waste the cent percent literacy rate that we have gained. Protests are needed, but is the Harthal a necessity? Aren’t political parties responsible to the common man too?

Of Apes and Humans

Returning after watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and its messages for the present humanity – the species which is seeking violence and justifying the same with the distant past, and every group calling for blood just because the other religion or community not considered to be human, a post was a necessity. This is a shame that the modern world has brought upon itself makes them stoop to a level lower than animals. The movie gives the viewers certain lessons, and its relevance to the present world is higher than its contribution to the flick itself.

1. Violence is the dominant nature and need: It is seen that humans and apes do see each other as threats just because they are both different. It is the same problem that haunts humans who fight each other. Yes, people want everyone else to be like them, and there lies the problem. Even as war can’t be justified by any means, this hatred is boosted by people who fight each other in the social media and post fake images which completely nullifies their cause. The violence on the field is reflected even on the virtual world, and death of people from other groups is a necessity for some.

2. Peace is just temporary relief: Humans are without the ability to forgive and forget and therefore there will be no eternal peace; Ceasar acknowledges this by the end of the movie. People always have many genocides to justify what they are doing now, and it is a shame that they have to bring things which happened in the medieval era to give the feeling of rightful revenge to their evil deeds. The world has changed and they need to get out of their distant past and learn to be good to others in the present. Only then there will be everlasting peace.

3. There is evil in every group: It is only with such sadness and disappointment that Caesar acknowledge that it is his own people who are responsible for this plight while it was humans whom he expected to start the war. The presence of good among evil gives hope, but this evil which spreads among the good people is rather terrible. There is the indoctrination that one group or the other is bad and deserves to be killed, and this spread like wildfire, faster than anything which is not so evil. The enemy might change, but there is a possibility that there is always one.

4. Apes are among humans: The indoctrinated humans form the new generation apes. They only support their own people and hope for the people of other religion or community to die. Those who are not violent enough to do it on the streets do it on the social networking sites becoming a spamming device themselves, aping others sharing the photos put by them without even knowing that it is a fake image or an something that works against themselves thus making the whole process invalid. Some others choose to abuse a person as a part of the aping, and attempts to do so because someone else did the same earlier.

5. The need for individuality: The apes resemble the humans who lack individual ideas and they think that it is always about them without even choosing to have an identity. They depend on some random person who share some ideas. People believe others to such an extent that they think that Steven Spielberg killed a dinosaur, and so how can they not believe anything else? If the same thing is given a racial, religious or caste colour, the whole thing will be easier to believe because some people only consider their group as human, and they think as our human leader says “they are just animals”.

Co-existence. Do the humans even know what it means? (photo from movie's official FB page)

In the end, the only one who suffer will be the common man. Nobody really cares about the bloody politics which is bringing every act of war. There is only the need for co-existence, and for that, the change should be made at the root level, with the next generation being taught the values. But there is nothing to be done, as they have already left the children to find evil in their own way. The next generation is sure to bring a lot of hatred to this world, unless we guide the younger ones. Lets not be like the apes, and lets not be like the warmongers or the brainwashed supporters of violence.
