Of Happiness and Optimism

There have been too many days which lacked the happiness factor in my life, and I often wondered why it was so difficult to find the joy which has been lost. It has never been my area of expertise. But I have found its opposite side with so much ease, and there has been absolutely no struggle associated with it. The absence of happiness is always present, and even when there is the most need. The reason was that there was no optimism, and the level of hope was so low!

Yes, being an optimist never came naturally to me, and it has been more about being a cynic all the time. Among them all, there was that November 28th which changed a few things. I was rather wandering around with no plans. Then there was something which came to me like music to the ears. It was the cry of a kitten from the canal in front of our house. From between the vegetation of the canal, a face looked up, and said the “meow” and again came up with another louder “meow”.

See who was waiting? Look at the smile there :D

See who was waiting? Look at the smile there as optimism works out for her ๐Ÿ˜€

Then I was like, this one is in the canal, and this was going to add to my sadness with this one going to die there. There was no way to bring it up as it was too steep all the way. That was another point of pessimism there, and then I saw it trying to climb up, trying again and again until almost reaching that point from where I could pull it up and take it home. Kittens are optimists aren’t they? I wondered if it could have done that as a pessimist.

We named her Simona and she has been a fighter. She gave a valuable lesson with her struggle to be up with us. From then, she has been a symbol of optimism in a never-ending manner. Simona, the symbol of perpetual optimism continues to be with us at home. She has been very good at providing some moments of happiness, becoming also the happiness factor of the family.

Let me in! Let me in...I want to sleep in that particular room too :D

I am an optimist kitty and I know clearly that I can get into that room ๐Ÿ˜‰

The point was that what I have to do is to keep trying. Falling down has been another thing that came naturally to me, and the plan should have been to get up every time. Simona teaches so much, and the way she looks at you is optimism, and her knowledge that you will always be there to feed and look after her is the purest form of optimism. You can feel it in her eyes, and realize that you, the human is her best friend.

She needs her time with her humans, and she knows that they will always be there for her, whether to feed or to play with her, and to make sure that the necessary position on the lap is there for her. It is her optimism that we never want her to miss, as it is a contagious thing and she is a carrier of that beautiful factor. I have often wished that the optimism was a virus that could spread better.

She is Simona, or SI-MO in short, and she is our little cute optimism. Even as she has got bigger, everyday, she sits in front of the closed doors of the rooms of the house, letting us know that happiness as well as a positive approach towards life is not elusive. She has been proving that with each sunrise, making sure that the humans of the house never miss out on the joy of the beautiful day being shared with her. Yes, she tells us that the world is beautiful and better be optimistic about it and your own future!

How I Met my Kitten

It was last month that I wrote about the cat that used to visit our home. Zeezee (https://theteacerebration.wordpress.com/2014/11/06/zeezee-the-oracle/) was there for not more time, as she seemed weak on one day and refused to eat anything. But she was also reluctant to make anyone touch, and was ready with her claws to keep everyone away. One day, she just went missing. There has been no sign of her for weeks, and it was depressing. It was certain that she was not coming back. But God surely knows how to bring surprises and fill the void at the right moment.*All photos used in this blog post were taken on my Sony Cybershot DSC-W310.

November 28th was quite a big day. It had the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Penguins of Madagascar here. But no, those were not the big things on the day. I returned home in the evening after watching two Malayalam movies, Mathai Kuzhappakkaranalla and Angels back to back, and after parking my Honda Dio, went back to close the gate to listen to a meow sound. I looked near the wall and beyond the gate to find nothing there. I even looked inside the walls of the neighbours to find nothing. *Clue: Note the movie name: Angels ๐Ÿ˜€

See who was waiting? Look at the smile there :D

See who was waiting in theย canal to be rescued? Look at the smile there ๐Ÿ˜€

Then I looked into the canal to see a cute face looking up and crying. It was a little kitten mostly white in colour. It increased the volume of the cries after seeing me. The situation seemed that it was abandoned there and had nowhere to go as the nature had created walls all around it in a canal which was not cleaned for quite a long time. It was also that part of the canal which had seen more snakes than most of the other similar places in the area. It was scared, and it wanted a way out. But the problem was that it had absolutely no idea about what to do, and it was too small and not used to be alone.

I shall hide behind this globe of domination and try to be cool.

I shall hide behind this blue globe of domination and try to be cool and awesome.

I wondered how to get it out of there. There was no way for me to get in there. The presence of the snakes was evident, and the path down was steep. I could only jump down there and stay with it. The only way that I could get it up was to go down there, get caught in the canal and call fireforce to help. Nobody really bothered about a kitten being caught in the canal in a busy world. It was certain to die there, but that was of no significance for anybody. We were new to the place and didn’t know anyone who could help.

Come on people, I can score better goals with my ping-pong ball.

Come on humans of the ISL, I can score better goals with my ping-pong ball.

Then the miracle happened. I was looking at the mobile phone and wondering who could help, only to get no idea about it. All of a sudden, the kitten started increasing its voice and started trying to come to me by climbing up all by itself. It fell down twice, but the third time, it came almost all the way up and when it was almost there, I pulled it up and took it home. I understood that this one was a fighter, and it was destined to come to our home and it is by fate that we are bound. There is no better relationship than what is brought together by the power of destiny.

Can I play football with you? Can I? ;)

Can I play a game of football with you? Can weย do the Ping-pong ISL please? ๐Ÿ˜‰

It spent the rest of time on my right leg and quickly had the tea that I shared from my cup. I was surprised about how happy it seemed. Then it slowly went into an area which was to become its personal area, and started taking a nap to wake up to the smell of fish. It knew where its home really is, and it is where the heart stays now. This is the story of the beautiful kitten that came home and stayed. But this is surely not the end of this story, and it goes on and on.

I should be super-cat. I just hit him and he seems dead :P

Iย didn’t do it. This is a clear case of suicide. He was always a suicidal toyย ๐Ÿ˜›

After thinking about it, I decided to name it not after Agnieszka Radwanska, but after Simona Halep, because my parents voted against the shock which was that name which couldn’t be pronounced. Simona was going to be interesting because the “SI” sound always had its attention, and we could call her SI-MO in short. Now Simona’s special needs include appam, pan-cake, a ping-pong ball, a pen and a place on the lap – that special place being the only thing that can stop her from playing unless she is tired. She was Simona of the Canal, and now she is Simona the Lionhearted ๐Ÿ˜‰

Zeezee the Oracle

If you have time, please stop by to say hi and accept the love from the Oracle and High Priestess of the Tea World, known to most of the mortals as Zeezee, and in the immortal world as simply the Oracle Cat. There are not many things that she doesn’t know about, as I can remember her being omnipresent throughout our house and also knowing where we and the food happens to be at any point. She is indirectly related to the Egyptian cat goddess of war, Bastet.

Getting back to the mortal language, this is a cat which was born in one of the corners of our house before we moved there. It was always there, and we did see it more often than we would have expected it to, as it is known to make its presence felt. It is still more of a wanderer though, visiting many houses in the locality, and making sure that most of the humans get a glimpse of its face and hear its meow thing. It is grown up, but not quite as big as the average cat.

It is only after a few months being gone since we came to live here, that we noticed that it makes more noise than our television, and that it really wanted to get some attention and for sure, some food. Most of the time it just wandered around the gate making the usual noises as it was scared of the vehicles that pass through the road. It detects the sound of a car or bike from a distance and runs away very early. It was one of those days when it was running away.

So we decided to introduce ourselves to the stranger and put some milk on a plate and put it in front of our car. It was hesitant at first, but as soon as we were distant enough, it pounced and finished even the last drop. Then it went under the car and made it the new home, something which we realized the next day. Beneath the Chevrolet Beat was the new resting place for the cat, and even as it often jumps around and sits on the two-wheelers, beneath the car was the one safe place.

One of the many resting places of Zeezee ;)

The demands have been rising ever since. It has been in more need as it now comes closer to us even as this cat never lets us touch it, and now it has Tiger biscuits with milk daily – seemingly proving that it belongs to the tiger family indeed. Well, it does have a few stripes. Its latest home is our old television stand which we use as the newspaper desk at the sit-out area. With some old clothes lying there, the place now serves as the official cat bed, a royal resting place.

"Trust me, it is going to rain - take the car" says the Oracle :D

The problem is that we are basically vegetarian, and unless guests arrive, we don’t buy non-vegetarian. But we manage to get some bones from somewhere, and are always looking for some left-overs to feed the cat. It quickly responds to the sound “C” or “Zee”, and therefore we decided to call her Zeezee. Nowadays, it is less scared of us as it wanders around inside the house and gets out to rest at its favourite places. It is now part of home.

We are trying our luck at growing some fruits and vegetables – it is indeed a good feeling, but there is nothing like having a cat. I haven’t actually felt that any other creature can be as cute and as admirable as a cat, and I am glad that I finally got one without much trouble. Nowadays, Zeezee spends her time hunting spiders, cockroaches and lizards, saving the house from such intruders. I do hope that I can have a little black kitten too and name her Agniezska Radwanska ๐Ÿ˜€ Looking forward to that day ๐Ÿ˜‰
