The Abuse Theory

There was a free abuse program at Mitchell Johnson’s Facebook Page which was about him, his family and the Australian Cricket Team in a movement lead by a set of online Keralites who were all set to save India. They always had this belief that Kerala had the right to save India from all kinds of problems, like from Maria Sharapova, Pakistan Hockey Team and others. Yes, they feel that India is at its best because Keralites abuse random people in Malayalam.

So, what happens? Australia wins by a huge margin and Mitchell Johnson plays a big part in the victory. Ever heard of Karma? It is like a vampire who has known you and comes back to bite you and suck the blood out of you. Did they think that this could negatively affect Australian team? I would say that it did only the positive, and it gave out the idea that there was no professionalism or sportsman-spirit coming from here. Did they think that it could affect Maria Sharapova in a negative way? Her game hasn’t come down. Serena Williams was always supposed to win the US Open. Asian hockey is no longer the powerhouse, and they can’t even say that the Pakistan Hockey Team is playing worse.

Some credit for the same should go to a few Malayalam newspapers who translated a few things said in English like they were the masters of two languages, but it turned out that they were good at none or only one. Do they even know what sledging means? Otherwise, they could use the same word. But what they have been doing is to create new things out of nowhere; they are the magicians of the new world. If you don’t have command over the language, what is the point of having studied journalism?

These newspapers have been trying to re-invent tennis these days, and the sport actually came to them very late. They are surely figuring out a few things about the game now. It is mostly the media which creates abuse – they are calling for the same in an indirect way and when they find that the crowd has taken it over, they report the same. It is like a win-win situation anyway. May be if there is no abuse, the newspapers and channels can speak about the forgiving nature of Keralites.

What does the abuse talk about? It doesn’t mean anything other than degrading India in front of the whole world. The biggest shame about it is that a state which boasts of hundred percent literacy is leading the charge or is the only big player in doing the same. There is the pathetic display of a culture or rather the absence of it, which was never really part of our life. Once again, I also blame the movie 1983 and its one pathetic dialogue about abuse to make this evil spread – it was actually like making abuse cool and legal.

I would guess that the free abuse program on Ranjini Haridas has finished, or was getting to repetitive. Prithviraj Sukumaran turned into the crowd favourite and Sreesanth is no longer the enemy. So, here are our people finding new replacements for abuse. As they keep abusing one or the other person all the time, there is a certain amount of freshness in the procedure. After all, doing something constructive has actually ceased to exist. Being the cool bad person is the trend.

With Indian Cricket Team losing the match with a certain amount of disgrace, I only hope that Anushka Sharma will be spared. In a normal environment with intelligent people, we shouldn’t be afraid for a Bollywood star who has nothing to do with cricket except for being the girlfriend of one of the major cricketers. But this is a strange world that we live in, and people mostly have no idea what they talk about or what they do. Don’t we need a law against online abuse instead of this chaos?

A New School of Abuse

These days, we see people thriving on a school of abuse. May be they are striving for graduation and post-graduation on the same instead of doing something constructive. Whenever there is a chance for a debate, things turn to abuse and it is all about who can be the bigger foul-mouthed creature. May be they have the experience of winning so many battles with abuses. But does that win them the war of life? Have they won all the battles and still lost the big war? Do they even care? What has education provided these people with? An extreme case of nothingness?

It has been a few months since the Maria Sharapova abuse program was launched by Indians, lead by Keralites seemingly making an attempt to be champions at that high quality program which is going to win India medals in Olympics. They flourished through her Facebook Page hurling the worst kind of misogynistic and degrading comments, and after giving the worst possible abuse, all they have earned is a bloody elephant egg that never really existed. I had never thought that so many people in Facebook are so anti-female – but that helped me because I could remove a few idiots from my friends list in Facebook.

Maria Sharapova has the best fans, but not at this part of the world.

Maria Sharapova has the best fans, but the worst are at this part of the world.

That was their global problem. The abusers did go back to their local level after that incident. The question that Maria Sharapova asked was just one of their problems. Being active in local programs was always in their blood. There was always the need for controversies. Prithviraj Sukumaran hasn’t been giving much interviews, but once their found that his daughter’s name had the “Menon” in it, they came up with the caste based controversy. The big surprise is that it came from those people who won’t say no to reservation for their caste. They still need to go after a name and enter the abuse mode – this one was short-lived though.

Abuse at television and news paper pages happens to be another common thing. Without realizing that there is an unlike option on every page, these people wander around hoping to come up with an abuse here or there. Some of them come with extra fake accounts and the rest with their friends. They choose some random news and start the daily program. They have special love for entertainment news and after passing some rude comments at celebrities, they starts advice-oriented abuse. The moral policing and abuse combination begins here and spreads to celebrity pages.

There was the recent controversy about them teaching an actress how to wear clothes. Yes, there was teaching class available for free, but not without abuse which comes along with the same. At another time, they had problems with another actress becoming the news-maker of the year 2014. What they don’t understand is that this choice was made by people – those who were inspired by her performance in a motivating movie. She was far above the level of the movie, and it had inspired too many women, which was why people voted for her. So the abuse should go to the common people who voted right? Why don’t they try abusing everyone on the streets?

He was selected by Asianet as the youth icon of the year - eat it.

He was selected by Asianet as the youth icon of the year – eat it or leave it.

Then there were the blind fans becoming so sad that their favourite young actor who had so many flops in 2014 didn’t become the youth icon of the year. They were a developing category in the school of abuse and decided to protest against it in a foul-mouthed manner. Yes, they just did that and finished it as if it is a program conducted for some festival. The celebrity fans are the biggest abusers available. The problem with them is that they donate their brains to that celebrity when they should have instead given a kidney. If you abuse one celebrity for another one, you are showing your lack of brain which hurts the zombies who want to eat them.

Some people were after Suresh Gopi because of something he said. If he had mentioned that one community should strive for something doesn’t mean that the others shouldn’t. The only mistake he has done is by giving some help to the contestants coming for his reality show. Seriously, one has to wonder how many other celebrities are as philanthropic as he is. The other crowd favourites for abuse include Rimi Tomy and Ranjini Haridas. Sometimes, I am so surprised at the reasons that they find for abuse that, I doubt if I belong to this world. This world is slowly, but steadily going to the school of abuse. Being a cent percent literate state, Kerala is showing the rest of the country that literacy means so less when online.

Isn’t it a good thing to stop interfering in the lives of others and begin to respect their opinions; being nice to others? ***The images used in this blog post are from the official Facebook Pages of the celebrities.

IPTL: What it Brings

As you might have seen in the advertisements, International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) begins on 28th November, and with the Indian Aces team being part of it, there is the scope for improving the status of tennis in India, improving the number of fans as well as the media attention. But as far the quality of tennis in India is concerned, I have my doubts about it, as a league might not be something that works with this sport as much as it does with a team game. There is also no scope for young Indian players unlike in IPL or ISL.

Still there was the big twist about it, as Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Indian Aces citing injury, and Roger Federer replaced him, and it would surely mean a lot of more ticket sales. There is nothing like having Roger Federer playing in India for the first time. There is also Ana Ivanovic, and Pete Sampras who significantly boosts their respective categories. I would say that choosing Gael Monfils was also an interesting decision considering how much of a surprise he can keeping bringing up. It is our chance to cheer for India in tennis, and Micromax Indian Aces is a star team worth our applause.

As all good things begin and end with Roger Federer.

As all good things begin and end with Roger Federer.

But the challenge seems evenly adjusted for the teams from four nations across Asia. We have four teams with players of different styles and most of them having not played each other much at all. The result cannot be predicted that easily with five divisions of matches to be played. The matches of the past champions will be very much unpredictable, as it gives us an opportunity to watch splendour on the court. Then about mixed doubles, it is going to bring us lots of suprises.

You can also choose to join the Genie Army :D

You can also choose to join the Genie Army 😀

We are introduced to some of the greatest names in tennis here; there are the current champions, the legends from the past, the surprise packages and the rising stars. Singapore Slammers got a strong women’s side with the power of Serena Williams, while UAE Royals is a balanced team with another strong women’s side – Eugenie Bouchard and Caroline Wozniacki in the same team? That calls for support.

And there is always the Djoker looking for his opportunity.

And there is always the Djoker looking for his opportunity.

I would consider Manila Mavericks as the weaker side there, but still having some power to surprise – having Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova guarantees that. This is not the usual tennis stuff that we might see here, and so our guess work might most probably won’t work at all. I would have loved to see Simona Halep and Agnieszka Radwanska playing in the tournament, but unfortunately, that is not to be.

Happy days have been returning for Caroline Wozniacki.

Happy days have been returning for Caroline Wozniacki.

The tournament happens for three days in each of these four nations. The points are won for the team by players winning matches – Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s doubles, Mixed doubles and Past champions’ singles, and then by winning the tie, four points are added to the table. There is also the provision of two points or just one depending on the performace from the losing side. There will be tie-breakers at 5-5, and the action will be faster with less time taken between the points and sets.

Ana Ivanovic, another big name for the Micromax Indian Aces.

Ana Ivanovic, another big name for the Micromax Indian Aces.

There is also a seven point men’s shootout to be played in case of a tied score too. There is sixty second coaches time-out, there will be power-points which will count as double, and there are lots of other things. Yes, it has me somewhat confused about how it works beyond the tennis match – I care less about that though. Here, entertainment is surely guaranteed, and this is more like a great collection of incredible exhibition matches. It will surely bring something to Indian tennis as far as the number of fans are concerned, and it might be quite small, in my opinion. *All images are from the Facebook pages of respective tennis players.

Of a Romanian Beauty

I have been watching tennis for quite some time now, and I have watched and admired many players, but none so much as Roger Federer, who redefined my days of watching that game which I have never played and might never play. I have spent hours just watching the maestro play, and have watched almost all the grand slams he has won, mostly as live action and sometimes in the form of highlights.

I have also admired Novak Djokovic with his game on a lot of occasions, and has considered him a worthy successor to the number one title which he is holding now. When coming to the women’s tennis, it has never had a clear favourite player in my list, as there used to be Maria Sharapova, replaced by Caroline Wozniacki who still remains one my big favourites, Agnieszka Radwańska who is there forever, and Eugenie Bouchard whom I occasionally root for as part of another army – Genie Army.

Roger Federer and Simona Halep, my choices for every Grand Slam :D

Roger Federer and Simona Halep, my choices for every Grand Slam 😀

Then there is Simona Halep, whom I have been supporting for months now as the latest addition to that list. Along with supporting Roger Federer, I have been wishing that she had one the women’s division too. I might still name my cat Agnieszka who have been the fan favourite player for the last consecutive years (and mine too), but the admiration for Simona has been something that has been growing like a vampire’s fangs. She is not screaming and doing all those strange actions on the court like some of the other players who overdo the same.

It is a feel-good moment when she wins those points :)

It is a feel-good moment when she wins those points 🙂

Ever since reading Dracula, I have always wanted to visit Romania, and support the nation in something, and Simona is the answer to my prayers to find something for the same cause. Yes, another reason to love Romania here, and I was actually surprised at how much she has come up in the rankings all of a sudden and how well she has improved her game. Well, it is still safe to say that not many people from this part of the world knows her yet, and that is rather a disgrace to all kinds of sports.

Always looking good whether on the court or off-court!

Always looking good whether on the court or off-court!

The twenty three year old from Romania has jumped in rankings and has arrived and settled inside the top ten of WTA Rankings, and now sitting steadily at number three below veterans Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. She looks small, but has such an intelligent game to take on the stronger opponents. This was achieved after being a rather less heard name in Women’s tennis, which with frequent serve breaks, has been such an unpredictable side compared to the men’s tennis which has had the big four of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.

Hope she wins the next grand slam and more :)

Hope she wins the next grand slam and more 🙂

She came so close to winning the Roland Garros this year too, but there is a thing about the French Open, as it is too elusive for the best players and those who play beautiful tennis. After having not that much of a good record in the grand slams, she could rise to the occasions this year reaching the final of the French Open and the semi-final of the Wimbledon in an year which saw her rise which also lead to the demolition of Serena Williams in the WTA Championships even as she lost in the final to the same opponent.

Not difficult to find Simona here :) (Pic from Simona wiki page)

Among the players who are doing so well in the WTA, I would vote for Simona Halep this time, and the player who recently turned twenty three and at 5 feet 6 inches among the shorter top players, seems to be the rising star for the future of women’s tennis. Lets hope that she continues to play the wonderful tennis that she is producing and keeps us admiring her talent. *All the photos in this post except one are from the official Facebook page of Simona Halep (https://www.facebook.com/simonahalep)
