It is a common misconception that there is pollution outside, and we live in a safe place inside, right inside our homes. But sooner or later, the same is proven to be wrong. The truth is that we are never really far away from pollution, which always finds a way. But we rarely find people taking the necessary steps to minimize the effects of indoor pollution. It is more because of the lack of awareness rather than anything else. Living in apartments and houses or villas with so much less space around, we are restricted to a concrete jungle unlike the world the older generation was familiar with.

All these dust particles which accumulate, are the first among them. There is the presence of a lot of dust, right on the keyboard and screen of our laptops, and we see some of them even on our mobile screens. So, it is essential for us to keep them clean all the time. One can be pretty sure that these trouble a good amount of people among the population of India. From cancer and heart diseases to lung problems and mental health related troubles, passive smoking is not that far away from causing the same ill-effects that active smoking do. It is even worse in the case of children. We can be sure that these won’t be the end either. Those Movies and Characters

Yes, I have finally made another return to this blog after a long time. This is that kind of a topic that can inspire a return, even though I am not sure how long this stay will be. A lot of things have happened in between, during those journeys from home to the city and back, and some fine moments during the time of work. I am still not sure if they would go on to become another post, but this topic is going to get a blog post right now, as I get to those interesting and impressive characters in movies!

Ammini (Aranyakam: 1988): Here, I think about the year – and we had a female protagonist who dares to think differently and lives in her world, close to nature and away from the hypocritic world that surrounded her. Saleema plays this role to such perfection which might have been easier during this century, but during those times? I have found more inspiration from this character rather than any other, and during a lot of situations in the movie, I found the protagonist as a reflection of myself.

Harikrishnan (North 24 Kaatham: 2013): Fahadh Faasil plays the geek who works at an IT firm and has OCD which makes him highly unpopular with his colleagues. During a journey during a harthal day, with his three newly found friends, he will rediscover himself, and along with friendship, he will also find love. The movie is a lot fun and very much thought-provoking, as Fahadh makes Harikrishnan and his journey a really memorable one. This was one of the best movies of that fine year which had so many big names!

Solomon (Solomon Kane: 2009): James Purefoy is Solomon Kane in this adventure which has him running away from the Devil’s Reaper to save his soul which is claimed by the dark side for the atrocities committed by him. In a journey for atonement, Solomon Kane will realize that saving his soul is not really about going through a sad and depressing path towards nothing, but to stay on and fight for those who believe in him. In this dark adventure set in the seventeenth century, James Purefoy makes us feel the depths of this character.

Sudheendran (Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam: 2015): The protagonist here goes through his limitations and understands that it is up-to him to make the best use of his talents rather than become someone else as the society wants him to. Living through his stammering problem and bothered about what people have been thinking about, his life seemed to be going to be reaching nowhere, but that was to change later in his world. This is surely one big inspirational movie here.

Charlie (Charlie: 2015): This character from the 2015 movie Charlie is a traveler, and a man who wishes to leave a positive impact on everyone whom he meets on the way. He is the djinn for many people as a lot of them never really meet him again, but he creates that kind of an impact on their lives that he is remembered for long. His never-ending journeys and all the positive side that he leaves behind in the lives of the strangers makes sure that the protagonist, Tessa begins another journey in search of this strange and mysterious character.

Philipose (Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi: 2015): Even though the movie might not have become that big a thing as it was expected to be, it was a fine attempt with a message to save the environment. As the protagonist, Philipose John Varkey assembles a group of strangers to save the forest and the people inside it, the same shall provide people with thoughts on what they can do for a similar purpose no matter how small their contributions might be; for Earth is no private property of any greedy human being.

Force Awakens in the Galaxy

At the Great Vampire Castle, in the absence of Dracula, his vampire team starts another night of ruling the dark world. The night comes alive as the Vampire Bat and the Vampire Owl once again takes control of the night’s proceedings. The place slowly awakened to another night of absence for the vampire elders and the dark lords of the realm. The time of the undead had begun with the fourth howling of the wolves.

Vampire Hamster: Greetings, my dear vampire lords. There is certain news that a new force has awakened in the galaxy. It is now trending in vampire social media too, and people have started asking questions. But I have brought the same thing which they have been talking about.

Vampire Owl: Is it the creation of one of those witches of the north? I have always doubted them and their ways. You remember what happened during the last Halloween.

Vampire Bat: What is it, Squire Hamster? Is it something beyond the limits of vampire understanding?

Vampire Bat: You have guessed this one right. This is a very interesting variation of the commonly seen human gadget, Squire Hamster.

Vampire Owl: I have been a huge fan of these movies long ago. I am going to take the printed copies of these wallpapers and use them throughout my room.

373 posts in 365 days

At one point of time, I wondered why I should blog. I have had many doubts about how effective this would be for me considering the fact that there is a large number of people blogging. I rarely had any Indian readers at the earlier times, and most of my visitors were from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. If you look at my blogs as of now, the situation has changed and on this blog as well as on Movies of the Soul, the most visiting people are from India itself and same is the case of the comments – not that many comments from the people currently living in my home state of Kerala though.

So a wonderful run and a great cycle  for this particular blog ends on this day with this blog post. There was a set of events which were set in motion on December tenth, last year. I had decided to start the cycle just a little bit earlier, but something happened and so it was delayed to December tenth, 2014. I am not feeling that well today, but this cycle post had to come on this day. There is something special on this day because I started blogging continuously since last December tenth, and there has been never even one day without a post on this blog for these last 365 days.

I have posted a total of 373 posts in these 365 days on this blog and there were 84 posts on Movies of the Soul, with 12 posts on The Divine Epic. Except for one, the rest of the sixteen contests prizes were all won during this period of time, and most of the campaigns also came during this time. The nominations for all Blog Awards happened during this season too with a total of 17. 183 out of 195 Top Posts on IndiBlogger came during this time, and all 31 of the BlogAdda WOW Posts came during these 365 days. It is also the season with the most visits for not only thing blog, but also for Movies of the Soul and The Divine Epic.

The most comments on these three blogs also happened during these days, and the same is the case of most likes as well as the social media sharing. This blog made sure that I thought about coming up with new ideas. The same is the reason why I am so determined to finish this cycle despite not feeling well with fever. I have posted on this blog from not just here; I have posted from Delhi, Trivandrum, Trichur, Kollam or whichever city where I was staying at that time. At least one post was a necessary thing, and sometimes I kept extra posts ready in case there is the need.

I wrote many exams in between, but still managed to come with a new post every day – I found it more as a need. It never mattered if I was not that well, and the absence of electricity was no trouble either. I sometimes went to some other place to post a new one and at other times I came up with something in the very last moment. I have participated in almost all contests which I cam across, and the missed ones usually about coming up with a video or writing about married life or babies. Still, I came up with two posts related to babies, and that worked for some happy hours.

I have come up with almost all topics possible for me – yes, fashion and related things are impossible for me. I have posted about movies, fiction, sports, games, television series, history and all which have came into my mind at times. I liked some of the posts and I didn’t care that much about the others, but I still wrote something in every case. I felt that if I stopped on a day, I might just stop writing at all. Continuous writing was necessary, because I wanted to keep going at something or the other.

This is a milestone day for me, and maybe I can choose to slow down things a bit as of now. I don’t really want to slow down as of now, and I wish to continue to keep writing until I have a job. I wish that the ideas keep coming easily and there will also be more contests on which I can write on. It doesn’t really matter if I win or not, but what bothers me is not to try – I am still to win something huge, even though the post The Vision of a Lost Bat for the India Today Conclave is quite the win which I love more than anything else. I will hope to keep writing, and if someone don’t accept my resume in this birth, you will see a lot my writing till death 😀

One Sweet Alternative

It is already July! Time does run very fast! And you know the season! After a tough summer, Kerala entered the monsoon season a little late and has had its effects of the heat for a longer time just like having those pre-monsoon showers a lot more than the last year. Yes, the temperature has indeed increased in the God’s Own Country, and it also feels a lot more hot than the recent years. There is a certain amount of burning feeling in the presence of only a lesser number of trees, especially in the towns and the cities.

Summer might be the best time for having those sip-ups and ice creams, as we remember those days from our school-time. But it is not summer any more, and one has to wonder what is to have during these monsoon days. It is surely not those milk shakes which made us feel awesome during those summers. Even with the rise in temperature, the rain cools things down all of a sudden. So, what would replace the ice creams? Well, there might be many options with sugar content, but honey is a lot healthier substitute to the same.

Honey makes sure that there are less calories involved and a better management of weight can be done; even skin got its advantages from honey. People spend too much time at the gymnasiums to reduce their fat and at the same time, they also end up reducing the weight of their pockets – not more fat wallets either. So, honey remains that fine source of energy and keeps you healthy and a bit more wealthier than having to go for fitness and eat those costlier things made of sugar.

Along with jaggery (known in Kerala as sarkara), honey can boast about its health benefits, and even above that, related to the lack of threats to one’s health. Honey is known to make a difference in health not only in the Ancient Indian texts, but also in the Ancient Egypt as well as the Greek city-states. The ancient scholars from all religions were quite aware of the same, until science came up with other alternatives which were not natural.

Vampire Bat: You said that you wanted to ask a question. What was that?

Vampire Owl: Yes. Do you know how I got this scar?

Vampire Bat: I believe that there are plenty of wonderful reasons for that, and if I start counting, I shall find myself in need of a calculator.

Vampire Hamster: Vampire Knight, sir, do you need a calculator right now? I have ordered one from Flipkart. I can show you the model and you can tell me if it is enough.

Vampire Bat: That was not supposed to show an actual need for a calculator. Why is this guy always here whenever we are talking something seriously?

Vampire Owl: The rest of the vampire team takes too many holidays. This person here forgets to take vacations due to his memory problems, and so he is here for most of the time.

Vampire Bat: Okay, you can still tell me one reason for this particular scar.

Vampire Owl: It is a very long story. Once upon a time, not that long ago, but still enough years behind to have a subplot to my story…

Vampire Bat: We won’t be needing that much detail. You can start with just a few hours or rather a few minutes before getting that scar.

Vampire Owl: In that case, I can deal with this in seconds. When Mavis was little, she hit me with the immortal claw while we were playing.

Vampire Bat: The immortal claw? Who gave that to a little child?

Vampire Owl: Nobody. She was ready with that when I returned to her after giving some instructions on what not to do.

Vampire Hamster: Sir, can you look at my claws and see if they are immortal?

Vampire Bat: They are not really claws. So Mr. Vampire Owl, you were instructing her on something.

Vampire Owl: Yes, I had given her a list about things not to do, and objects not to touch, and in failure of the same, I threatened to punish her.

Vampire Bat: You shouldn’t have been allowed to take care of anyone above the vampire toddler level. It is where your expertise ends. You can’t be the boss to any kid these days, and this one is the youngest known member of the immortal vampire clan. She is the legacy, and you can’t talk to her like that. Considering what the new generation kids do these days, you are lucky to be alive.

Vampire Owl: I didn’t know that the situation was this bad. I have been taking care of kids for centuries. I have even taught a few kids to take over the world.

Vampire Bat: What? You were responsible for those wars? Well, the influences on the generation are pretty bad. They have terrible role-models among their own people and celebrities, and you know that the effect of modernity has showed up here too.

Vampire Owl: Yes, I am the only good role-model around here. It is written on my scar; I mean, the face.

Vampire Bat: The problem has to be solved at the root level itself. Parents these days have no time for the children; just like Uncle Dracula. The current friends of the children are mobiles and laptops. Parents need to be like friends, or they can’t gain the trust of the children.

Vampire Owl: I understand that we can’t depend on fear. Even in my case, I was the one who ended up being afraid. Kids these days are dangerous. I need to get into their good books or get some armour.

Vampire Bat: Find a way to bond with them, or your end will come from your times with the vampire kids. Mavis has grown up and is in control. But you can’t say that same about the human kids who are ignored by their parents.

Vampire Owl: I would start the next season by eating Chocos with them.

Vampire Bat: Fair idea. Develop on it, and make sure that they don’t bite you. If they are working on any of those electronic devices, there are more chances of them biting you. There is no chance for guessing what all they are exposed to, with the internet so much readily available.

Vampire Owl: The infection of modernity and its gadgets; we have to be very careful about it. I understand.

Vampire Hamster: We will beat this infection together, sir.

Vampire Bat: Can you at least stop looking at your mobile phone while you talk against it?

Vampire Owl: He would make a nice kid; at least better than the new generation children. He is surely not going to go Lord of the Flies on me.

Of Friends and Parents

We have friends and we have parents. Most of the times, they are too different from each other, and the gap will only increase with the rising difference between the thought procedures of people who belong to different ages. Kids talk differently to friends and parents, and it is needed considering the respect factor – but if if is too different, things change. Children say too many lies to their parents, and for some, friends are more significant part of their lives.

If we know any youngster well enough, we can understand how much they lie to their parents each and every day. Most of my friends used to tell me to inform that they are at my home if their mother or father called. But nobody really called me anyway, and that was a relief. The new generation wishes to lead the Carpe Diem way of life which means that they have to lie to their parents who instructs them to lead a certain kind of life.

The problem with the new generation kids is that they think that they know a lot, and with the early relationship with the computer and mobile phone, they do know quite much. The parents are often proud of the same, but they can’t really accept the fact that the children is living life their own way and not listening to what they have to say. So, the distance between the parents and the children are further than it used to be a few years ago.

The children and the parents are mostly in two different worlds these days, or rather living in two planets which are so distant from each other. Unless the parents go into the world of the children, there can be not that much love for each other as it used to be. It is not easy to make the new generation children agree to your viewpoints, and for the same, the attention has to be given in an early age itself.

There are good number of little children belonging to my cousins – there are many of them, and a lot of them on the way. They have all been different in one way or the other, but in their attitude towards the elders, there is very less difference. It is what the modern age has provided us with, and it is what the parents should care about. Disobedience will only rise further if we become authoritative to them, as they will not like it.

This is not something that have come across for no reason, but something that has been developed through ages. Neither the father or the mother has time for the children; earlier only one of them used to work – usually it is only the male who works or otherwise it is the female who is the earning person (especially in the cases of nurses in foreign countries); there were also the grandparents who helped with the same.

But unfortunately for now, none of these people have time. It is as if the time has been taken away all of a sudden and things have become too complicated. The children of this age requires bonding more than ever, and it is up-to the parents to do a good job being a friend and guide rather than the big authoritative figure. Children have to be taught with love and not with fear. Yes, one has to be strict, but not as a figure of horror. It has to be about “buddy parenting”.

Closer to Radiance

There was a question which my mom used to ask me even from my schooldays. It was about how much water I managed to drink on a day. Drink more water for the skin was the idea. I never really managed to meet that requirement of twelve glasses of water and she decreased it to eight, and I still struggled to reach there. I cared very less about health at those days, and so the idea of giving the skin more water was rather lost on me. I hope to use that tip more in future though.

The next tip was to eat your vegetables, and you will be healthier and will look better with healthier skin. Then I was like, everybody knows that already and refused my vegetables as the grand non-vegetarian kid of the time. At that time, it felt cooler to refuse the vegetables, but not that much nowadays, with going semi-vegetarian. May be I should have done that a long time ago. It is good to eat some of those vegetables, and it is good for the skin as the earlier generation always used to say.

A few years ago, she had also adviced to eat less of the spicy food or it will show on the skin. She was against those grand Chicken Biriyani adventures which we friends had and had told to have vegetables meals even when we go on a trip. It sounded too much for us at that time, but nowadays, often I choose the meals instead of the spicy things. The non-vegetarian world was rather a smaller one, but it is the healthy one as she used to say.

There was also this advice from the past, about being stress-free, as higher the stress, more chance is there for skin problems, just like the problems inside our heads. The tip was to keep calm – never really worked out for me living a life surrounded by the pathetic relatives who judge people by money and job. Stress has been part of my problems, but may be if I could lie better, I could be further stress-free and live a happier life with better skin.

My parents had always adviced me not to play cricket at noon just because some World Cup or Mini World Cup is going on. This was kind of a regular advice given to me to save my skin from the sun, and even though it was repeated so many times, I used to play the whole day until late night at that time, something which started early morning. Yes, those days had me in direct contact with sun, and they were those moments which I could have avoided for the skin.

Mom had special concern for my Vitamin C. Yes, the fruits rich in that particular vitamin was a nice preference. It was something related to the human body’s production of collagen, and the skin was to benefitted from the same. I always loved the oranges, and so this skin-care tip worked in a much better way. The Tales of Variety

There are six tales. For the first one, there is the Uncle no.1 who tries to pretend that he is traveling in second class AC compartment while he actually goes around in the sleeper. If nobody is expected at the railway station, he pretends that it was so cold in the compartment because it was AC while he travels in the sleeper class. If somebody is expected to receive him at the railway station, he actually travels in the second class AC so that the secret that he usually travels in sleeper class won’t be out; all these to pretend in front of his son’s in-laws.

Aunty no.1 is a clear saviour of money, and becomes extra economical at home, keeping the very old vegetables at home for later use. As there is so much money at home, it is impossible for them to have older food, and so the older food is reserved for the guests. But nobody can complain because she makes some nice food with it, and this comes quite natural for her. People feel that she prepares so much food and it is awesome, but there are some very old vegetables which remains her secret.

Aunty no.2 knows how not to waste even a little bit of the money. She keeps living that simple life that her children can never agree to, because of which they rarely wishes to come home; but the fact remains that she has effectively controlled the flow of money into the right areas, but it goes even up-to that extent that one has to wonder if she is now the richest person in the family – if it is so, the situation is worth applause as well as wonder, and the question remains if she did spend money even when there was the real need.

Uncle no.2 is like the richest person in the family, but never spends even one rupee for even that local toffee, forget buying a cup of black tea from the cheapest shop around. The theory used here is like, “when I get richer, I will be a miser”, but he gets richer and richer, and one day, he might have a tree which grows money, and then he will buy something for us – may be a cup of cardamom tea or that new variety of coconut ice cream which is there at the shops. He is surely saving a lot right now.

Aunty no.3 is the one who keeps asking for money. It is not that she never returns, but she does ask on such regular basis that everything at her place goes too smoothly even though it can’t be said about those whom she has the money from. Still, she manages things perfectly with the money and lives a happy life. Isn’t it what we all want? People say that money can’t buy happiness, but for some people, happiness is a by-product of money borrowed from someone else.

The Cheapest and the Best

Once upon a time, my dad told me to but the best as it is the cheapest. But as time passed, I came to know that he was playing the Paisa Vasool theory so much that he was slowly moving towards being Scrooge. Yes, even while looking for something to drink, he always asked me to drink tea. It was the cheapest available option and whenever I wanted to drink something, he bought me more and more tea. It might be different now, because the price of tea has gone up, and the new interest is black tea which costs one rupee less than normal tea.

He was always buying the cheapest available at the market and coming up with the idea that it is the best. Whenever he found an opportunity to get anything cheap, he was quick to buy them, and he has spent a lot of his life looking for discounts. When I wanted to buy my first bike, he gave me the TVS Centra which boasted of a hundred kilometre mileage. The car choice was always Maruti 800. It took me years to escape from this mileage addiction which was imposed on me.

Well, buying the cheapest has often landed us in trouble, but he only chooses to remember the success stories. He has been specialized in fighting with the auto rickshaw drivers over the fare – he did that in four major cities of India; Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. He was always proud of the two or three rupees which he saved, only to loss more later, but he was always happy about having saved something, and it seems to be something which he is doing even now.

He always wanted to go to market himself and find the cheapest to buy from there. When it is about the non-vegetarian, he skillfully tries to find something even cheaper, as he never really wants to eat it. When we were buying the first computer, he managed to travel to every possible seller and find the cheapest of them all, and he hoped to make this the common computer for all the relatives to save money for them all. He also did the same for our bicycle.

His idea has been to buy one book and let all of us relatives use it. I realized that when some of my books went missing and they started appearing in the relatives’ places. It was another part of that Paisa Vasool idea which left me with so much less to read during my school days. But it helped “the others”, nevertheless. It did help to create a feeling of oneness among the relatives for sure, even though it was at the expense of how much I scored during the exams. Well, I was never the priority, and so it was okay.

Well, this trait of finding the extra value is something more though, as when utilized at the right time with the best skills, can be something which creates the best results. It saves money and makes us feel a lot better if used with efficiency. There is the need to find the right ingredients with the appropriate vision. It is in our blood, and so it will come to us sooner or later. There is more than one way to use this, and we are sure to find more and more methods for the same.

The World’s Expert

Each and every day, we wake up to see our problems solved by mother. She has been the expert for the problems of this tiny special universe of her child. She has still solved more problems than the biggest revolutionaries in the world. Yes, I had too many problems, and I made her solve most of them during my childhood. My sister has had the same opinion too, and along with the same, she had to solve dad’s problems – the newest addition to the list are those problems of Simona the kitty.

Sometimes, when I was thinking about the problem and the nature and essence of the problem, she is already there, having solved that and spoken nothing about the same. She continued to save the world like a Power-puff mom, and at the same time went on with her work at home and office. She has never boasted about the same, but her abilities were like no other. She was the captain of home as well as her office without speaking about it or taking any honours for her efforts.

She is there when we need her, and it is our duty to make sure that it works the other way too. I have known too many sons who had chosen to move away from home in the name of work even when there was no need, leaving the mother alone with herself and hoping for his return. I have known too many daughters who decided to fall in love and marry a man who is far away just to stay away from the tired mother. But it is our duty to stay with the mother when she needs us. I give four examples of her expertise here.

1. Finding Whatever is Lost: Not including the lost brains and hearts, she can find most of those things which we can’t find. There are those books, pen, watches, bands, rosary, wallet or anything which you need and can’t find – she is there to find them with so much ease. You might have lost all hope, but she has found it, gives it to you and goes back to work; as simple as that. There is the mother, the one who finds everything; the seeker who saves your day in the blink of an eye.

2. Solving the Hunger Problem: Your basic idea of solving this problem is to scream that you are hungry, with the knowledge that mom will hear this and shall come up with some magic to bring the food for you. But you will know that it is a bigger problem when mom is not around. Yes, I have managed to create things of terrible beauty when I tried something at kitchen when she was not at home. Even the cat who ate anything and everything ran away at the sight of my creation, which is why only she can solve this problem with the best efficiency.

3. Ending the Fear Challenge: She has been there to scare the fear away! She has always done that without thinking twice. The very sight of a spider or cockroach has always had her finishing them off as quickly as possible. When I was a child, she knew what I was afraid of, as well as what I could be afraid of, and got rid of all them very fast. She always used to tell me that we are not to fear any creature more than a human, but in our case, let that not be fear but caution. When I grew up, I understood that it was nothing but the truth.

4. Getting Rid of the Terrible Ones: There will also be those relatives who are worse than those insects which come into the room and refuses to go (the cat can also deal with them). But in the case of these people who claim to be well-wishers make our lives living hell. The expertise of mother include the ability to know who is the better person among them – after all, she have been seeing these people for a long time and knows how to deal with them. There are also some fake friends, and she finds it easy to know the truth about them too!

The Memory Collection

When I was a child, more problems were solved by my mother, even more than even those which were actually problems. She has always been there for me to find the grand solutions, no matter what kind of troubles were there. She has been the one superhero who has continued to save the day. She has worked the magic with all its strength, and became the one person who could make the day better. It happened very often, but there are occasions which can be remembered with ease.

1. The Friend Problem: The most significant problem that I faced was the friend problem. I never really had many friends, and even among the friends, I had been very choosy. It is something that was not easy in my case, but I made the choice from a small list. Even then, I rarely managed to get along with most of them. Then the major adviser was mom herself who was not just the first friend, but also the first advisor on friends. She knew the right person to be friends with, and the best friend was the good friend – and not those who pretend; I managed to learn it further with life experience.

2. The Teacher Problem: There was always the problem of finding the cane with teachers of the time. So, the mother would be a part-time teacher and work with the subjects to help and save the son from the big battle at the class. She had the time to be the part-time spell-checker as well as the Mathematics helper of that time. She made sure that I performed better at school even though it meant that she had not much time to spare after that. Well, the idea of rest was quite unknown, but she managed her part with the studies nicely, not only with me, but also with my sister.

3. The Dog Problem: It was a rather significant problem as it was rather a never ending factor as I had to travel around the Kerala State Transport Corporation Bus Stand rather than take the much easier shortcut. It was like a castle of evil for me (that was before reading Dracula), and there was this dog which I considered devilish, and always tried to block my way. It wanted to chase me, but I was good at running, and it only ran up-to a certain point of its territory. Yes, I told mom and she solved it – the dog remained inside the gate of the house from that day, I was glad to call it a bad dog from outside.

4. The Food Problem: This has been continuously solved the mother. Actually, there was no other person who came close, even though some of the aunties did contribute well in the later stages. There was nothing like having the food made by mother. Yes, it was quite popular in the class too, and as only one curry was there, I also developed the habit of using less curry with the rice – it has helped me with controlling food too; she had so much work, and she still managed to cook and not let us have food from the outside – that habit came much later when I was in college; otherwise, it was all about mom’s cooking.

5. The Relative Problem: This one has managed to be a difficult problem to solve, and it continues to run strong, and only mom has managed to keep its level down. Some of the relatives have been unbearable with their free advice. They are the kind of people who can do no good, but only bring trouble. The specialty of their advice is consistent comparisons with their children who are supposed to be better and more successful. The advice from mother has helped in avoiding them up-to an extent and not to care much about all the nonsense that they come up with.

The Problems of Problems: Mother has been expert in solving even the problems which the problems have, and she continues to be the best in doing the same. She was always there for us and remains the best, and has also been solving the problems of the father as well as a number of her siblings, along with working at the office, thus becoming the skilled multi-tasker. An e-mail to Lady Death

Most honourable Lady Death,
This mail is not really meant for you, but for your evil twin sister. But as I don’t know her name or e-mail adress, I am sending it to your eternally cool and stylish mail inbox. I have seen her only once, and it was during your dance of death with the nymphs of the abyss which was unleashed after the last Vampire-Draconian War for the Isle of Death. I have to tell you that I have never seen someone so beautifully evil ever before. She was stunning in that black dress (even though all of you always wear black and your fashion is permanent).

I can’t spend much time to boast about your great courage to take on the Devil himself or on your help in closing the portal to the world, because right now, I am infatuated with your twin sister. With all due respect to your hellspawn pets and the weapons of integral darkness, I would like to wait not for you, but for her. But she is nothing but a reflection of yourself, except for the mark on the left cheek. I am writing this mail so that she can know when and how she can come and meet me as I take my opportunities to die.

The other world awaits the Vampire Bat, as Lady Death’s evil twin sister is there.

As you already know, I am pretty much close to immortality right now, and we even have control of the Fountain of Youth as of now. So it is not going to be easy especially with the peace pact has been signed between most of the states here. But I have never been so dazzled by a beauty of death as your sister. She has that darkness in her that dazzles like the light of life which has sparkled into our vampire visions from the moon of Saturn, Titan. She is already my bliss, and I have my plans about death.

1. The Date with the Spikes: I am planning my first date with her over the spikes of protection which has been laid all around the Great Vampire Castle. It is self-retracting, and so none of you might have seen it yet. No, the land around a vampire castle can never be plain ground meant for little vampires to play cricket – you should have guessed that. I shall stand on the top of the tower with a cup of tea and wait for the arrival of your evil twin sister. Then we will go down to the spikes and have an awesome first date. Uncle Dracula is a popular impaler, and so he will like it better than any other methods. Yes, they are made of silver!

2. Happy Dinner in Space: Most of you might have heard about us developing an inter-planetary teleportation which works only three out of ten times, and I keep volunteering for the same. So there is a good chance for spending some time in the space without air, and she can join me there. The teleportation might occur somewhere near one of those larger planets, and so you can ask her to stay near Jupiter or Saturn. I have known that the space is a beautiful place, and with the next teleportation failure, I might be united with her. You should just keep the death minions with yourself. Death at Ganymede – it is nice, isn’t it? Jupiter won’t mind.

There is life beyond the sunset of life, as she awaits there with the Queen.

3. Duel with a Werewolf: They have been very angry these days, and have been naming their songs and daughters as Anger. Now they have the last born as Anger 9519 after this model of naming began. They have been carrying these with them, and I am hoping to get into the arena with one of them and die a valiant death. Werewolves are surely looking for some vampire heads these days. They do get a lot of different heads to separate from the bodies, but vampires haven’t been their favourite, especially with their Eastern clans of the dreadful wolves.

4. Checking the Testing Grounds: For years, the testing grounds have seen more dead vampires than anybody else. Usually, only the purest of evil are chosen for the same so that they could be done with, but one can also volunteer. Only two vampires have survived the grounds so far, and they now live at the Isles of Death. I believe that you have established good connections with them already. These grounds see a lot of deaths every year, and your evil twin will find it easy there, collecting souls without much difficulties, and after the job is done, I shall accompany her to your lands.

An Owlish Love Failure

A month after appointing the first ever vampire psychiatrist part-time in the castle, Uncle Dracula decided to provide him with only the second appointment of his vampire career, to treat the Vampire Owl and get him out of his depression with the support of Vampire Bat. After all, the situation in the other world was rather threatening and he needed all the help that he could manage to get.

Vampire Owl: I am feeling a certain amount of panic. Is this the panic room? Then why is it that Jodie Foster never came? Is it because she is not acting much now? She was there in Elysium, right?

Uncle Dracula [while leaving]: See, this is why we need immediate treatment. If you need anything, ask the Vampire Bat. I will be outside letting others know that he has lost his mind, and getting more of the team here for support.

Psychiatrist: Okay, you can start now, Mr. Vampire Owl.

Vampire Owl: I waited for an eternity, but she never came. Her neighbour and best friend told me otherwise, but she never really came.

Psychiatrist: Okay, I completely understand the feeling. So, you just had a love failure. I have treated many such cases.

Vampire Owl: No, there is more than that. It is a long story. I am writing a book “An Owlish Love Failure: The Autobiography of a Missing Vampire Owl“. Can I talk about it in detail?

Psychiatrist: Yes, but please try to make it as short as possible. It is a topic of interest, but I have things to do.

Vampire Owl: It was the best time of my life, and I was only getting more and more awesome. Do you know how much I have tried? Do you even realize how far I have gone? I jumped into the five oceans, put my head into a werewolf’s lair, stole a plate of brain biriyani from a zombie, leaped in front of speeding centaurs, kicked a high elf on his head, took some necromanium from the necrons, tried to murder the immortals, called a witch a lich, mocked a satyr when he was training…

Psychiatrist: So, you were trying to find your lost love by going through such acts of high valour. You must be an extremely brave man.

Vampire Bat: Don’t you still get it? He was trying to commit suicide. He is talking about Lady Death, the personification of mortality’s dead end.

Psychiatrist: What? I am someone who can play with vampire minds. I know everything. Why do you think that you can advice me?

Vampire Bat: Because I am waiting in the queue. After you finish with him, you have to treat me.

Psychiatrist: Why? What is your problem? Are you all completely crazy?

Vampire Bat: I am in love with death’s evil twin sister. I am also waiting for love. So may be, you should treat me too.

Psychiatrist: I think that there is the need for shock treatment. I will just call the guards and deal with this in an easier way.

Vampire Bat: In that case, I would like to remind you of something. There is a fact which you need to know about. Our stories are incomplete. It will only be complete with the return of Lady Death and her evil twin sister. But there is something about yours. It will be complete soon enough. Do you want to hear a funny fact? The guards are not here at this time; their chapters are also closed for now.

Psychiatrist: What do you mean? This is rather strange.

Vampire Owl: It is us who will close your story. Do you remember what you did to the last vampire who came to you for treatment? Can you recollect how many normal people you have declared mentally unstable? You do have a short memory, and we are here to remind you. We shall give you the reminder that you are fake.

Psychiatrist: No, wait! I declare you all mentally unstable! I play with human minds, and I am going to venture into the subconscious, unconscious…

For the Planet Earth

A better environment is our need, and not just a requirement of the nature itself. It is our responsibility towards Earth rather than what the planet should do for us – after all, it is the humans who are responsible for the current situation which requires the world to go through some saving. The question remains if what was first needed, about what science should have done for nature, for it is the same field which started finding ways to exploit is in the worst possible ways.

But what people are more concerned now is to go to another planets, but don’t we have a planet here which needs saving? Is it more needed to go to another planet and exploit it too rather than making things better at the place where one was born? Is it more like an escape route for the rich people like in a number of science fiction novels and movies, including the 2013 one which could take it further – like Neill Blomkamp’s Matt Damon starrer Elysium? No, it is never late to save Earth, for nature heals better as long as humans understand the right thing.

Wake me up after saving Earth. I have had enough of you mortals 😀

Let’s do what we can – spend some time to plant some trees along with all those things that we do. We are actually doing the same now, around our house. The space is less, but we manage with what we have, and hope to have something like a wall of green around us. There are different types of trees, from Zapota, Star Fruit, Neem, Guava and Star Apple to Jackfruit and the Alphonso Mango. There are also enough vegetables for half of the week which are produced at home.

The food waste is usually used as the compost working as the fertilizer, along with those which are bought from the outside. There is nothing like having your own materials to use for the growing trees which is regularly cared for. The compost bin is available from the Municipality itself, and you can get it without much difficulties. There is also not much space needed as this can be placed on one of the corners near kitchen.

There are not many trees around our place, except for the back-side of our home which has a nice abandoned house surrounded by a number of the bigger trees around. But we live in a town which is going through a faster pace of development, and the amount of greenery has surely come down. It is up-to us, the common people to make up-to it by planting more and more trees around our houses.

Let’s try to make the area around our home green, and keep it the same. A few trees will only do us good, and we have actually utilized all the available space around our house which are not paved by tiles. Our kitten, Simona loves trees and manages to stay on top of some of those already existing trees, taunting the dog which runs around the neighbourhood. Trees are not just our property, for it belongs to many.

If we grow our own fruits and vegetables, we are going to be a lot more self-sufficient than we are now. It has been shown in a number of movies including the Malayalam movies Ividam Swargamaanu and How Old Are You. We need to have our own green world with enough to sustain ourselves, and if everyone begins to think so, we will end up doing the right thing for our environment.

Vampire Owl: No, it is clear that he is not a satyr, highlander, nomad…or a even known tree. I have never slept on something like this.

Vampire Bat: I think he is an Ent, a higher class citizen of the Wood Elf Lands.

Ent: Why does it matter who I am? What matters more is on all which has been done – all those atrocities which were committed in the name of advancement in science and the need for development.

Vampire Owl: He is like a war survivor, you know.

Vampire Bat: The conquests of the Dark Elves and the frequent attacks of Nomads have made such a bad influence on our forests. It is really a shame.

Ent: Are you completely out of your vampire minds? Do my injuries look like the result of a war or due to the spells from Dark Elves? Do you think Nomads will attack the nodes of life that feeds them?

Vampire Owl: I am confused. What is it about then?

Ent: It is a reflection of what has happened in the other world. I can feel the pain of fallen trees through the portals.

Vampire Bat: The Dwarves have always been like that. They and their new inventions in the underworld.

Ent: I am talking about the humans! Why are the clues so difficult for you? Stop acting like zombies! Don’t you go to that world through the portals to watch movies?

Vampire Bat: Yes, but we don’t see why it is so hard for you with situation there.

I ask humans to do one thing that is to save nature, and they can’t even come close 😀

Ent: I can feel it in me as they fall every tree there and never really think about replacing the same with another one. They run through trees with such an ease, but finds it difficult to demolish concrete buildings. They have problems when the path goes through their places of worship, but what they don’t realize is that nature is something to be worshipped too. I am a high priest and the eternal spirit of nature – I feel the pain each and every second. Why are we always the ones to suffer? Will they like us better if we were made from India Cements?

Vampire Bat: Chennai Super Kings fans are not going like that last question.

Vampire Owl: Is that a beard? I mean, I haven’t seen trees with beards. Satyrs have it, but…

Vampire Bat: He is a very old spirit. It was the coolest fashion at that time! Why don’t you go to Kerala then? There is so much of greenery there and the presence of nature tourism has been at full power. Have you seen the Kerala Tourism advertisement? I am sure that you haven’t seen something like that in your eternity.

Ent: I am not disagreeing with the same. Yes, there is so much greenery, but there is still too much modernity coming up. There are huge flats coming up and there are too many illegal constructions which affect the balance.

Vampire Owl: But there is more interest in the greener side.

Vampire Bat: On the vegetables than anything else. One actress is shown cultivating vegetables successfully and everybody is after the vegetables. Some of them don’t even touch the plant. It is not love for nature. It is just a bloody show-off.

Ent: Yes, they all wants to be part of the vegetable empowerment program. Some people just have too much money. But do they love nature? I don’t think so. A few people think that they will grow on their own, and the others have enough money to hire others to do the work. Then they call themselves “farmers” – seriously?

Even one leaf from nature is a gift of interest. Humans feel less about the same.

Vampire Bat: But there is the eco-tourism which has been nicely implemented in some places. It has worked very well in most cases. There is still better work that expected and it will only improve – even though there will always be some people who try to reverse the situation. There will be people who want to replace all the trees with concrete buildings when it comes to money. But things change, and people are understanding the situation better.

Vampire Owl: They don’t have the Enchanted Woods like we do, and so it is more difficult for them. Humans will learn, but it will take time. If they don’t we will unleash something through the portals.

Ent: I shall rest here until then. I have been accepted as a refugee in the New Vampire World and hope to have a better reflection from the other dimension so that I can go and be part of the Enchanted Woods again. Otherwise, I am just ruining the hallowed grounds which is more respected by the Wood Elves than anything else.

Vampire Bat: You can join us anytime. Bring a few tree minions if you need to.

Vampire Owl: A special tree for just owls alone will be a nice idea.

Day of the Happy Baby

This story goes back to that time of Mavis Dracula’s second birthday. The tale is well known around the Dracula Castle, but not otherwise. This incident happened a week before her second birthday when she was going to be introduced to the first blood-drinking experience. Uncle Dracula was busy hunting the Lich Queen’s lost zombies and the other vampires were left to take care of little Mavis for only the second time in their lives. The limited experience and shorter memory wasn’t helping them much with the process.

It was another dark night, and Uncle Dracula was to take more to time to return, according to the message brought by the Vampire Cat. Uncle Dracula took very good care of her daughter, and he was immortally skilled at being a good father. He knew what was best for the vampire kids as his elective at the Vampire Academy was Children’s Vampirology. But the same couldn’t be said about his vampire team who were caught in a deep struggle from which there was no escape. The Vampire Owl finished the diary and went into the room.

Vampire Owl [staring at Mavis]: Our sweet little fang-less Mavis! See how cute you are!

Vampire Penguin: There was shortage of owls here, you know.

Vampire Owl [working with his facial expressions]: Look at your owl uncle’s face. See how it changes.

Vampire Panda: He always comes late, unless the situation is like last time when he was locked inside.

Vampire Penguin: It is usually the zombies that come late, but not this time.

Vampire Bat: Can you just stop showing that face to Mavis?

Vampire Owl: But this makes her so happy. See her smile when I make the dead owl face.

Vampire Bat: She was already happy. It is the dry diaper that makes her so happy.

Vampire Owl: What? But I had so much ideas to make her happy. I should have changed the diaper. Why did you do that?

Vampire Bat: It was the Vampire Crocodile. He was too much of an active vampire apprentice.

Vampire Owl: That one? The crocodile with the name Mr. Croco D. Apple. He is showing too much interest in these things, right?

Vampire Bat: Yes, then Vampire Hamster forgot about that and did the same again.

Vampire Hamster: Anybody mentioned my name? I am so awesome!

Vampire Owl: It is the new Pampers Baby Dry Pants, right? I have heard that its Magic Gel locks in moisture so that the baby’s skin remains dry and healthy for up to twelve hours. So she should be super happy now.

Vampire Bat: Yes, she is so happy. A dry baby is a happy baby. Haven’t you heard about that?

Vampire Owl: I shall add it to the Vampire Proverbs List then!

Vampire Bat: Don’t stop making faces at her though; she likes that a lot. Vampire Crocodile was also singing and dancing for her. She was so much extra happy. She also keeps playing with that toothless vampire toy.

Vampire Owl: We are all good uncles, aren’t we?

Vampire Bat: Yes, our skills have developed a lot with experience and the new Pampers Baby Dry Pants. Uncle Dracula should be proud.

Vampire Owl: Amen to that!

Making that One Decision

The memories go to those diabolical moments a few years back, and there I was caught in a giant web which had more than huge spider supplying dilemma creating a series of more and more complex webs. There was the need to make a choice, but I couldn’t go on with it. My decision making ability had hit some new lows right there, making me wonder if the correct decision could ever be made me with the presence of perpetual doubts which never seemed to end.

It was the time when I was turning into full-time cynic from a part-time doubter. I was caught within the web of BCA which I neither liked or was ever interested in. I never really studied and went to the college very rarely. Even during the classes, I spent too much time on the sleepy side, never really making an attempt to understand anything. It seemed to be an bottomless pit of nothingness where I was staying for almost no reason, and the number of webs were only growing, only to make things worse.

Life was going on and on like nothing really mattered. It was to go on in a never-ending manner in which I was to fail, collect back-papers and keep writing the exams to make it a nice five year plan. I could still not be persuaded to study better. Each and everyday, I would get on my Honda Unicorn or TATA Indica and go all the way to the college travelling those thirteen kilometres for almost no real reason. I even had no good friends and there was absolutely no point of that journey.

One day, when I was doing nothing as usual, and wasting my time as if time and tide waited for me at the bus station, my mother asked me if I really wanted to do this. She added that she should have asked the same question before I joined the course as suggested by some uncles, but that wouldn’t have mattered because her opinion wouldn’t have been of any value. She said that this was the time for me to make a stand.

It was not like I had never made a stand, but I have had the same opinion as my mother, that whatever stand I take, it is not going to change anything in a positive manner. I have had my choices of school, but my opinions were never taken into consideration. The points by some of the relatives and fake friends always made more impact in the decision making at our home. Even for Plus Two, I had wished to take the Humanities group, but I had scored too much to go for what they called the “inferior group”.

So when she said that I should make a decision on this, I didn’t want to do anything other than to stop this ridiculous course which made no sense to me, and with so much less teaching going on and nobody in the class really studying, this was going to bring nothing positive. I decided to end this procedure of a course which was going nowhere. I decided to go to the Mahatma Gandhi University and cancel this course which I did, even as most of my relatives were completely against the idea and wanted me to go on studying this forever until I pass.

I joined BA English after that, and with most of my friends of BCA still trying to clear the exams, she told me that it was the best stand that I had ever taken, and it is the first major positive decision of a great value that I had ever made. It is because of her words of encouragement and support that she had provided, that I was able to change my graduation which had a great influence on my post-graduation, making me want to be that PG graduate rather than go with the flow and reach somewhere not really fitting in.

The Need for Upgrade

Where does the need for an upgrade come? We all feel the need to upgrade our cars to something better – and it doesn’t matter how much satisfied we are with the existing vehicles, that this need will come sooner or later. One of my uncles said a few years ago “When you grow up, you will need new and improved cars and then you will want even more” – even though I don’t completely agree with this statement, there is some truth about it as far as the desires of the common man are concerned. We never stop having that desire for something better than what we have without ourselves, and there is that desire gaining a lot more power when life gets a lot better.

So, here comes the need to travel to the different car shops around. With the shops selling second-hand cars, it is extremely difficult to find the right car at the right price. Some of them will ask for too much and a few other shops will not be that easy to locate. The best ones might also be located too much inside the city limits which will make traveling too difficult, especially if it is a busy life already.

A Few Unfamilar Rituals

Only a few months had passed since Mavis Dracula was born, and as Uncle Dracula thinks about this day of his past, it is our duty to take a look back to the day before Mavis’ first birthday with him. There are no questions to be asked, and there are no doubts to cleared, but accompany Uncle Dracula’s minions who take us back to that day. Let me assure you that Mavis is no lesser Dracula than our uncle, and it is something that she proved later.

It was quite a dark night, but still not enough for the vampires to celebrate their new festival, The Season of the Night. Dracula was inviting monsters for the first birthday of Mavis, his daughter who came to this world after sacrificing one hundred and twenty eight kilograms of potato chips mixed with blood. All the werewolves and zombies around the castle had agreed to come for the celebrations. But the big problem was at the castle when he was not there.

“This is not happening. I can’t do this at all” screamed the Vampire Panda.

“You are the cutest available vampire in the locality. You have to do this” said the Vampire Penguin.

“Actually, you are pretty much cute too” added the Vampire Owl.

“What? No, I am a dangerous penguin with survivor skills. One day, I was travelling through the Bermuda Triangle and…”

“I don’t think that the baby knows that though. So cute penguins can do” said the Vampire Panda.

“The baby is crying. Can something be done? I have done a few things on situations like this – but I have awesome memory loss problem” added the Vampire Hamster.

“Actually, where is the Vampire Bat?” asked the Vampire Crocodile.

“He is doing his vanishing act. He bought the new and improved Invisibility Cloak from the Goblin Market” said the Vampire Owl.

“Is it like this clock shows time and we can’t even see it?” asked the Vampire Hamster.

“What? No, not that clock! Who gives vampire badges to people like this”? yelled the Vampire Owl.

“I am back! And I am starting a ritual here” said the Vampire Bat as he appeared out of the Invisibility Cloak.

“What is that weapon that you have in your hands? It is the book Dracula and what is this Pampers Baby Dry Pants?” asked the Vampire Owl.

“Both are for Mavis. She needs to learn about the adventures of her father told in the words of other vampires. Any questions?” asked the Vampire Bat.

“Is that book to be used as a diaper?” asked the Vampire Hamster.

“Are you even listening? Is it so difficult to understand the vampire world which is right in front of you? Vampire Crocodile, get to work”.

In a few minutes, things were set, and the Vampire Crocodile started reading the story. Vampire Cat dropped in and added a lullaby in the “meow meow” vampire model. Vampire Bat and Vampire Owl were making future plans while Mavis Dracula was already asleep. The next day was to be her birthday, a memory which Uncle Dracula was to use a few days later – that would call for another drastic rewind.
