The Ten Movie Commandments

It is during these times when there are more fans with hate than true lovers of movies, which has made me come up with the Ten Commandments for true movie lovers, that I had earlier posted on Facebook. We have had fans of actors and actresses spreading hatred all over the internet earlier, and now it has been replaced by the fans of movies, which is clearly reflected in the abuse which the Baahubali fans have been producing all over. This makes one wonder if they actually get paid for abusing others by someone related to the movie, and only God knows why they are feeling so insecure to bring those sexist and racist comments even with such huge box-office collections. So, here are the commandments which will be helpful in finding the original movie lovers among us, and all statements will start with “Will” in honour of Will Smith 😛

1. Will have more than one all-time favourite movie different from the crowd: Well, it is not necessary to love a movie just because it comes from your language, your state, your country or religion, and most brainless people are to feel that one movie is the best because a lot of people are saying that, but it is not, for things are rather subjective.

2. Will appreciate the choice of others not to watch a movie, or not to like one particular popular movie: You will surely have to get rid of these people who keep forcing you to watch a movie or to tell someone else that you like this movie so much, when you don’t. They are playing with your free will, and just ban them from your lives.

3. Will feel no need to watch a movie just due to everyone else watching it: Okay, so everyone says that this movie is so great, and that if you don’t watch it, you will miss something great in your life. Well, this is pathetic thinking, and a third rate way of making others watch a movie – these people are mostly fakes, as one movie is certainly not life.

4. Will not like a movie just because it has his/her favourite actor/actress: Some actors feel the need to be treated as VIPs and sometimes, they just say that they are also common man. Then there are those fans which are so dumb that they keep on believing all those lies which are thrown at them. Movies make stars, and not the other way around.

5. Will not keep talking for about 100 times on how great a movie is: Yes, this movie is the greatest movie of all-time and you need to watch it – they will keep saying all the time, not just by mouth, but also on different posts for no reason. They need to be sent to Antarctica immediately, because there are more significant things in life.

6. Will not reveal the big suspense of a movie publicly: Some people are just too much into revealing the suspense of a movie for no reason; maybe they like some other actor who hasn’t acted in that particular movie. But this selfish act has no explanation; it is nothing that a true movie fan should do.

7. Will not abuse or support abuse of other movie fans: You have no right to abuse people for not liking the movie which you feel is the greatest – maybe you are just dumb that you liked that movie; it doesn’t matter if you have a whole nation liking the same movie, because the whole world can be wrong. Abusing and supporting the same is just pure evil.

8. Will support the other viewers’ right to have opinions: Why is that you want everyone to accept that your favourite movie as the greatest movie of all-time? Instead, it will be nice to grow up and not keep showing up on others’ posts to say that, especially on those strangers’ profiles as if the director or producer of a movie is paying you to overrate a movie.

9. Will not pretend to like a movie just to seem cool: People who likes this movie is cool, so thinks your friends. But you don’t need to be dumb and like the movie just for that reason. You just need to like the movie if you like it. Otherwise, you are just being an idiot with no real opinion about the movie or anything in life.

10. Will be a good boy/girl at the theatre causing no disturbance: There are people in those movie halls who are just nuisance and nothing else. There are those who howl, clap or make other noises in the halls – there are others who just abuse, and we also have those who talk loudly along with the ones who spit, put the legs on front seats etc – all need to be expelled.

Still Looking for Thrones

*You might started watching this series a lot earlier and came up with certain points about the same, but this is new to me. Unlike what some people might think, this is not a review or an analysis of the television programme. ***I have recently managed to watch the series Game of Thrones, thanks to my cousin brother – I have been looking for this one for a very long time after being having so much of recommendations. Yes, I came across this one too late, as I couldn’t trust my internet connection enough to get it to me early enough. Now with the fifth season coming up, I am happy to have watched all the fourty episodes from the four seasons in four days, and it is the fastest for me ever – ten hours each day for a season. You can argue that the fact that I am jobless has contributed more than anything else to watch them continuously and to write this strange and long post, I am not going to deny that.

As I watched Game of Thrones, I didn’t feel that it happened in another world, and this battle or civil war between the many noble houses for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms is not so different from our present situation, and is close enough to our political parties and their games to come to power. Yes, there might be more similarities to the world’s known past with those kings, queens and their wars which were written somewhere in the history books from the viewpoint of the victorious people, hiding their own brutal massacres and genocides along with showing the enemy as the evil ones. Even nowadays, there is too much focus on who is the enemy, and we are not allowed to find it out by ourselves with ideas forced on us – surprisingly, even the educated falls prey to the same.

got (2)

As people are forced to read the history that has been re-written so many times, we still have newer version of history forced upon us by different political parties. Some of them come up with new and improved opinions about historical figures with the strong belief that they are not going to come back from the dead to give an opinion, and the people who voted for them are just some idiots just because they elected these representatives. What they do there is to behead the dead again, just like the kings of Westeros have been son much interested in such executions. Some of them even flay the dead with their brutal words only to spread hatred against other communities and to keep their Iron Throne. Yes, they still indirectly say “off with their heads”.

It has always been about power. Do we need to believe that any of those so called great kings who forced the historians to write their own histories were better than the others who valiantly defended their kingdoms and lost with pride only to be called the barbarians? Do we need to feel for the kings who glorify their deeds and hide their actions of evil just because they can? Some of them were actually so evil that their deeds automatically became parts of the brutal history. Still, those who hold the power always had the special abilities to hide their evil in the present as well as to a future generation, and so will some of our politicians and celebrities who look down up-on the common man.

got (1)

Even in sports, it is just the same. We have seen someone like Sreesanth being caught in the match-fixing scam, but the bigger names always escape. If you need to escape from being corrupt, be at the top – it is like a well-known lesson, and all those little birds know enough about it as they try to rise from the bottom. Even in the case of all the corruption cases, are we foolish enough to think that the biggest names even come close to being exposed? The mathematics of the crores that we see related to the corruption may not be even a moderately big amount at all. The powerful ones have another viewpoint and they are also looked upon with another set of alien eyes. We never really come close to it.

No matter in which field you thrive, choose to be at the top of them all, and it is the best way to be the evil. Being rich and powerful along with having powerful allies is always important for someone who wants to take advantage of others. Like those common people who had no idea why the kings fought their wars and like those soldiers who just murdered random people because the kings said, we the people of this generation also listen to the words of all politicians who fight their own Game of Thrones. Even with those who pretend to hate each other when we see them on the media, are they actually fighting a war against each other or having unholy alliances here and there just to gain their motives? And those religious heads who supports divisions has no relation to any religion at all.

There are all kinds of weapons in this world, and the nuclear ones are not the strongest of them. What hurts humanity the most is the division created by the men in power, for appeasing different communities, religions and castes along with creating a kind of reservation along the lines of the nobility just with another name, and teaching people to hate others in the name of nationalism which often takes the form of racism. We can always expect more reservations to come based on the vote banks – and the General category are the slaves in this case; asking for a fair and equal treatment when caught in the Game of Throne is impossible. The result is that hatred, racism and cateism becomes equal to patriotism and religious identity, and just like noble houses fighting each other, the force people to turn against one another, and negative effect of the same goes directly to the lives of the people. In the end, it is only the undead, or the death itself which can save us.

***The people in power sings their songs of fire and ice, and it is up-to the common man to realize that it is all part of a game and there is absolutely no service to the society which is intended in politics; if so, the common man would have been living better lives and the politicians a lot like any other person with their bank balance. The bloody aim is to gain that throne which has been corroding due to the dirty effect of that evil which has been bestowed up on it and has inspired a chemical reaction directly from the perpetual depths of inferno. Still, there is nothing like sitting on that throne, or rather the thrones. You listen to them and you become part of that big game of thrones which has no place for emotions except for when they play with your emotions. ***The images used in this blog post are from the Official Facebook Page of the Game of Thrones series.

The Abuse Theory

There was a free abuse program at Mitchell Johnson’s Facebook Page which was about him, his family and the Australian Cricket Team in a movement lead by a set of online Keralites who were all set to save India. They always had this belief that Kerala had the right to save India from all kinds of problems, like from Maria Sharapova, Pakistan Hockey Team and others. Yes, they feel that India is at its best because Keralites abuse random people in Malayalam.

So, what happens? Australia wins by a huge margin and Mitchell Johnson plays a big part in the victory. Ever heard of Karma? It is like a vampire who has known you and comes back to bite you and suck the blood out of you. Did they think that this could negatively affect Australian team? I would say that it did only the positive, and it gave out the idea that there was no professionalism or sportsman-spirit coming from here. Did they think that it could affect Maria Sharapova in a negative way? Her game hasn’t come down. Serena Williams was always supposed to win the US Open. Asian hockey is no longer the powerhouse, and they can’t even say that the Pakistan Hockey Team is playing worse.

crck (1)

Some credit for the same should go to a few Malayalam newspapers who translated a few things said in English like they were the masters of two languages, but it turned out that they were good at none or only one. Do they even know what sledging means? Otherwise, they could use the same word. But what they have been doing is to create new things out of nowhere; they are the magicians of the new world. If you don’t have command over the language, what is the point of having studied journalism?

These newspapers have been trying to re-invent tennis these days, and the sport actually came to them very late. They are surely figuring out a few things about the game now. It is mostly the media which creates abuse – they are calling for the same in an indirect way and when they find that the crowd has taken it over, they report the same. It is like a win-win situation anyway. May be if there is no abuse, the newspapers and channels can speak about the forgiving nature of Keralites.

crck (2)

What does the abuse talk about? It doesn’t mean anything other than degrading India in front of the whole world. The biggest shame about it is that a state which boasts of hundred percent literacy is leading the charge or is the only big player in doing the same. There is the pathetic display of a culture or rather the absence of it, which was never really part of our life. Once again, I also blame the movie 1983 and its one pathetic dialogue about abuse to make this evil spread – it was actually like making abuse cool and legal.

I would guess that the free abuse program on Ranjini Haridas has finished, or was getting to repetitive. Prithviraj Sukumaran turned into the crowd favourite and Sreesanth is no longer the enemy. So, here are our people finding new replacements for abuse. As they keep abusing one or the other person all the time, there is a certain amount of freshness in the procedure. After all, doing something constructive has actually ceased to exist. Being the cool bad person is the trend.

With Indian Cricket Team losing the match with a certain amount of disgrace, I only hope that Anushka Sharma will be spared. In a normal environment with intelligent people, we shouldn’t be afraid for a Bollywood star who has nothing to do with cricket except for being the girlfriend of one of the major cricketers. But this is a strange world that we live in, and people mostly have no idea what they talk about or what they do. Don’t we need a law against online abuse instead of this chaos?

Conversion or Transformation?

Dark Eldar: No, you can’t take care of our dying. It is not fair. As the leader of all eldar kind, I prohibit the same. I have even prepared a long list of the things that I don’t allow and published it as a book. You can buy it from the book shop for three hundred and ninety nine gold coins.

Vampire Bat: What? Why? We have come all the way to the other world after going through twenty four portals of hell just to take care of these people, especially of your uncle and your grandfather.

Dark Eldar: We are the eldars, the oldest group of people in the world. We have doubts that our people will be converted from our worship of coffee to your religion of tea, which is unacceptable. May be you are terrorists too, how can we be sure as you worship something else?

Vampire Bat: You are accusing us of conversion and terrorism just because we belong to another religion?

Dark Eldar: Yes, we eldars are very much an elder race. We are so old and awesome that it amazes me.

Vampire Owl: I think he is dead.

Dark Eldar: No, don’t touch him; wait, yes you can touch him and try healing without converting. No vampire conversions here.

Vampire Bat: It is a vampire transformation. Not conversion. It is also done by biting. What is wrong with you people?

Vampire Owl: Yes, he is dead. Congratulations.

[A team of people armed with claws and swords comes in, and the eldars get their wand-guns and knives ready].

Vampire Crocodile: Is that a werewolf?

Eldars have advanced weaponry, but still your hostile neighborhood extremists.

Eldars have advanced weaponry, but they are still your hostile neighborhood extremists.

Werewolf Anger: I am the leader of Werewolf South Squadron 47. You can call me Anger.

Vampire Owl: I could have easily guessed that name. You look very angry. But are the werewolves always very angry? So I wouldn’t consider that a nice name for a werewolf standing among many werewolves. I can call you all with the name Anger.

Werewolf Anger: Forget my name. You can call me Master Tintu instead. I am here for the dead grandfather. Any questions?

Vampire Crocodile: What do they call you when you are not angry? It is unfair to call you angry when you are slightly less angry because when compared to the standard werewolf anger, that should be too less to be officially called anger.

Werewolf Anger: What? I hate these religious fundamentalists who are not of my religion. We, the worshippers of lime juice are offended by the tea and coffee drinkers. Now, any questions which are not related to my name or any type of anger?

Dark Eldar: I am not going to ask any questions. See, my dear fellow eldars; he is too stupid, like an eldar without his magic wand. He doesn’t even know that this is our dead body.

Werewolf Anger: How can you say that? No, this is our dead body.

Dark Eldar: Shut up. This is our dead body. Ours, ours, ours.

Vampire Bat: One question. Isn’t this actually the dead person’s dead body?

Vampire Crocodile: Wow! What a question. This is why I have joined the vampire team.

Dark Eldar: He is our great grandfather. How can his dead body be not ours? He is a martyr for our Great Eldar Religion.

Werewolf Anger: No, he was bitten by a werewolf last night. He was going to convert into a hybrid werewolf tonight. So, he is our dead body, and the martyr of the Legendary Werewolf Religion.

Vampire Bat: Why do you people keep using the word conversion? People transform into vampires, werewolves and even eldars.

Dark Eldar: Dude, it is the new trend. If we say conversion, things sound pretty cool.

Werewolf Anger: Your grandfather was going for a homecoming, Mr. Eldar. Accept it. He has a bloodline of werewolves through his mother’s side.

Dark Eldar: Forced conversion! He had already returned home with the “home return programme”. You bit him and tried to convert him, you religious fundamentalists of lime juice.

Werewolf Anger: He came to us and asked to convert him. This is voluntary conversion. It is you who do forcible conversions.

Dark Eldar: No, we take only those people who were always ours; its a re-conversion.

Werewolf Anger: Nonsense. We have copyright for all re-conversions in all known dimensions of the Southern Realm.

Dark Eldar: Do you remember what happened at Satyrisya?

Werewolves are always ready to pounce on others, just waiting for the right opportunity.

Werewolves are always ready to pounce on others, just waiting for the right opportunity.

Werewolf Anger: Don’t you dare to say even one word about Satyrisya.

Dark Eldar: Why? Did you receive Satyrisya as a reward for forcibly converting all the poor satyrs of the Ting-tong forests?

Vampire Bat: People with brains have the tendency to explore other religions. Intellectual people can’t stay at a point and blindly follow the ideas of just one religion and surely can’t stand its extremists who come up with hate speech. Conversion is one’s personal decision. Why are you so much bothered about it when it happens between almost all big enough religions?

Werewolf Anger: I am Anger.

Vampire Crododile: Everybody knows that already.

Werewolf Anger: I am just saying that to remind myself about it as I was brainwashed by religious fundamentalists and got some major memory problems. I am just left with one doubt – is it eating potato chips that we have banned or was it about tapioca chips? I am actually kind of hungry angry.

[A group of zombies enter through the window].

Lich Queen: Am I late? My zombie minions wanted to have ice cream on the way. I am looking for a dead grandfather.

Vampire Bat: Meet Miss Lichie, the Great Queen of the zombie underworld. They believe in ice cream and its greatness.

Vampire Owl: I have just received the text message that a group of mutants are heading this way, lead by a Professor XYZ. They are holding flags with beer cans printed on them.

Vampire Crocodile: Damn. Here we go again.

*A few parts of some dialogues were inspired by the Malayalam movie Sandhesam, the best political satire ever produced in India and the flick is also part of IBN Live’s list of greatest Indian films of all time. ***Please don’t consider this as anti-religion, but as anti-extremist concerning the haters. This is exactly how you sound like when you fight over religion – please don’t discriminate by religion and pray to God that you may be granted the wisdom to know about the same and love your fellow human beings! *The images used in this blog post are from http://hdwallpapersfactory.com/

Six and One Quarter Sins

Haven’t we all learned or at least heard about the Seven Deadly Sins? It has been a major part of Christian teaching for a long time, and was also featured in the movie Se7en about which most people should be aware. Here, I would like to think about them as a blogger with the Latin names also added. The first one should be the Blogger Lust/Lechery [fornicatio] – this has been something that is less related to blogging, and I would like to keep it as a low-profile sin which can stay outside the hell in a camp on the banks of Styx, thus leaving to option to drink tea with Charon when he is free. Some of the other sins will also have the elements of this one in detail. So, this is the one half-sin.

Blogger Sloth/Laziness [acedia]: This is actually a lesser sin among the seven, as it doesn’t affect others. But I would say that the laziness associated with blogging is a sad thing. You have started a blog and you have the skill; then when you choose not to write is a disheartening thing. There might be many things that might stop you, including those idiots who will say that your blog is bad and other terrible people who say that you do useless blogging. No, none of the blogs are bad or useless, because it is a personal thing and the first reason behind it is to bring out our thoughts and feelings. Everyone with a blog needs to write, and lets get rid of our laziness. This one is three quarter of a sin.

Hieronymus Bosch's The Seven Deadly Sins

Hieronymus Bosch’s depiction of The Seven Deadly Sins with sides cropped.

Blogger Wrath/Rage [ira]: I am actually surprised that this still exists. Yes, there are some hate comments which come up here and there just because they can’t stand another blogger, and it is not limited to bloggers, but also to those who just comment with their e-mail id. The usual sinners of this kind are the fans of certain movies, bands or celebrities in the case of movie or music review blogs. They can also be the fans of certain politician, sportsperson or religious fundamentalists depending on the type of content you blog on. They have the tendency to be fully brainless in wrath, and being dumb is just routine for them. Beware, this brings the worst in you, and makes you not yourself.

Blogger Gluttony/Selfishness [gluttire]: Even as it is usually used with food, we can relate this more to selfishness. Take your time to help other bloggers, and leave the “I” side behind. Blogging is something that should feature mutual help and understanding. Some people will say that we should only support awesome posts and the rest should be hated. But I would say otherwise, because all people can’t write the same way – I do see a lots of them with grammar mistakes, but if they are trying their best and their idea is good, who are we to judge someone who had lesser chance to learn English? Then there are people who has some of their post not as good as the rest, but that also should have reasons – lets accept that without being egocentric.

The Holy Spirit and the Seven Deadly Sins shown here

The Holy Spirit and the Seven Deadly Sins shown here. Read if you can 😀

Blogger Greed/Avarice [avaritia]: This is something that works on many levels. There is the line which is drawn between the greed and the need, and that line is something that I wouldn’t like to draw myself, because it is something of personal nature. Yes, blogger Greed does exist, and it will only get stronger as time passes. It will be only later that we will come up with the right definition of the same, as the separating line has to be clearer. May be I can update this section later or write another post completely about this one. With the rising number of bloggers who only look for material gains, I am sure that the time will come much earlier than I expect. Plagiarism can come as a result of this greed.

Blogger Envy/Jealousy [invidia]: This envious side has had a powerful existence. I have been blogging for quite a long time on my former blogs which I had the problem of weird commentors who thought that others shouldn’t blog at all. This kind of breed still exists, mostly as a hybrid between envy and the next sin Pride, which has these people hating the achievements of others. I might not win a major prize in any contest sooner or later, but I appreciate those who win, and have seen these people who are envious of the achievements of others and hope they didn’t win, also posting on forums about it – you don’t win contests or get noticed and you start complain about it because of envy. Yes, you feel that it is not your incapability, but someone else’s fault.

Tower of Babel by Pieter Brueghel the Elder - of vanity and pride

Tower of Babel by Pieter Brueghel the Elder – structure that is a sign of human pride.

Blogger Pride/Vanity [superbia]: The devil’s favourite sin and very much popular among bloggers, there will always be that kind of people who think that they are the best of them all. The problem with this kind of people is that they always want to change the rules to suit them. Whichever site they join, they want people to visit their blog only, and for the same reason, they want to feature on the front page and win contests by degrading others or the basic idea behind the site when they can’t win. They keep having problems with other bloggers winning just because they believe that only they should win. What does it take to know that you are a part of the blogger community and doesn’t stand alone? Is it difficult to understand that the world doesn’t revolve around you?

*All the images used in this blog post are from the wikipedia page of Seven Deadly Sins. **In this blogging world, lets be respectful of others’ works and not complain that others get more recognition or some other person wins more contests. Lets write, and support those who support us, as well as those who need support. If someone thinks “I am so awesome and everyone should read my posts, and I shall not read theirs because they all write inferior posts”, think again. Remember, everyone might not have had the opportunities in education that you had.

In Search of a Soul

Based on the graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, the movie I, Frankenstein continues the journey of the monster which was created in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus. It does tell something about the background story which can be seen as a small introduction. The book has been among my favourite horror stories of all time, having an opportunity to read it during my childhood. Along with Bram Stoker’s Dracula, there was something about this novel which came second in my list at that time. So, a continuation of the tale of this monster was going to be intriguing.

The question about how good the movie is, might bring some discussions, but the major question about this work is not about its quality, but about one thing – the soul. It has Aaron Eckhart as the Frankenstein’s monster which wanders around the world we know without a soul. He has survived all the changes that the world had undergone and spends his time in loneliness. But he gets caught in a battle between the gargoyles appointed by the Archangels and the demons who are hoping to take over Earth.

✠ Know the Frankenstein Monster, the man in search of a soul in the land of vainglory. He is Adam Frankenstein, the first monster created on Earth, the demonic paradise.

The soulless monster, Adam Frankenstein (Photo from movie's FB page)

The soulless monster, Adam Frankenstein (Photo from movie’s FB page)

The soulless creature becomes the centre of attraction because the demon Naberius, one of the original fallen angels, plan to use the procedure which was used to create this monster to re-animate a number of corpses without souls and use them as containers for the souls of millions in hell, unleashing an army of demons which will finally be able to walk on Earth and cause chaos. You remember the plan which was brought by Mammon and Balthazar in the movie Constantine and by Blackheart and his minions in the movie Ghost Rider.

It was quite easy to identify that the creature made my re-animating a dead body had no soul. But the interesting thing is that by his good deeds, he finally does grow a soul. Still, the question remains about the people of our present world. Do they have a soul? A conscience which makes them do good unconditionally in a world dominated by money where only the winners have honour and approval forcing one to shed goodness? The fact that a monster gained the same in a movie might not be consoling for many, as most of the current world lacks the abilitiy to be the container of a good soul.

Our monster does kill the wife of his creator in a few moments of anger and frustration, but the new generation does much worse. Their brutality to the people around them is not just related to some murder, but in their daily words and action as part of a long procedure which they consistently force upon their own species without any remorse. It is more like a river of anger and hatred flowing without restrictions on a monsoon. The anger at Maria Sharapova has subsided, but we do see a lot more every day, and the reality is much worse outside.

The creature was closer to the dead than the living, caught between two dimensions, of life and death, and yet manages to find life and the humanity worth his time and care. It was a creature without identity, and no conscience at all, until it became the “he”, changing his ideas about himself to more of a common hope for salvation, becoming part of all that he has known, from gargoyles to humans. He is still the equivalent of what we would call a zombie, but like in the movie Warm Bodies, he has something in him, and here it is more than just a heartbeat and a brain.

The beauty & the beast one step closer to the soul (Photo from movie's FB page)

The beauty & the beast one step closer to the soul (Photo from movie’s FB page)

Our creature understands his higher purpose and elevates himself to something beyond the selfishness that he had earlier gathered. He understands that despite what he has gone through, it is not in his power to deny God’s will or to deny himself his own right to do good, as he himself was created by a creation of God, thus becoming God’s own, in an indirect manner. He is thus Adam, the first of his kind, and unique, yet part of the universe and its plans. As they say in the movie “You’re only a monster if you behave like one” – so do most of the humans of our time deserve a soul more than a monster?

A Question: Who’s Next?

The 2011 slasher movie You’re Next leaves one a message, and it is in no way having a redeemable quality considering the current situation. It talks about one quality that is gone, which is the power of blood relations and even those of romantic relationships. It pours acidic blood over all kinds of relationships and makes the viewers realize that chaos will come sooner or later and nobody can consider themselves free from it. You feel that you will see slasher horror with lots of blood and gore, but this movie is more than that as it reflects a consistently degenerating society that we live in.

It is a known fact that the current world is a quick one and possibly too fast for the traditional people. The new generation goes on trying to enjoy their life or to become successful so that they can enjoy life later, with a Carpe Diem attitude. Seize the day by hook or crook? The newly formed parents are also responsible for the same, asking their children to study and get a job rather than become a good person. This is why they ask every child go and choose science, because that makes more money. This concentration only on a future full of money leads to things such as what is depicted in this movie. Be aware that the next few paragraphs will have spoilers.

Sharni Vinson as Erin caught in the wrong family (screenshot from the movie)

Sharni Vinson as Erin caught in the wrong family (screenshot from the movie)

You’re Next is a home invasion movie. It has sons who hire murderers to kill their brothers, sisters and parents, plus even their lovers as they are attending a big family re-union. The whole point is about getting the family inheritance for themselves. Now, you can’t put the blame on movies or some wild imagination of the film maker who wanted to make this gory movie more disturbing, because you read such stuff every day in newspapers, like father murdering the son, daughter murdering the mother, son murdering both the parents, mother murdering her newborn child for eloping with her new-found lover and such things which marks presence.

Even as the increase in such incidents is the result of this age, the greed and jealousy has always got the better of the blood relations. In the Holy Bible, the first murder was committed by Cain on his brother Abel which proved such relationships incredibly weak. This makes one wonder if some people of this age are the descendents of that same man who committed that sin and the crime. They can surely ask that question, if they are their brother’s keepers. May be they do have the mark of Cain on them. Meanwhile Kauravas did the unjustifiable fought their cousins Pandavas fought against each other during another time.

That doesn’t end that so many years ago. With kings being overthrown by their sons, nephews, brothers or other relatives, the royal world itself has seen such cruelty done to the bloodlines. But how can they do the same in the modern world? Weren’t humans supposed to have gotten better? There are people whom I know who have told that the absence of religion has made people better and all problems are due to religion. But here, we see the exact opposite. In a modern world with less religion, there is no respect for elders or love for the fellow human beings. The only contribution is a Facebook post which should automatically save people.

You're Next has its big family re-union (screenshot from the movie)

You’re Next has its big family re-union (screenshot from the movie)

You’re Next has people being murdered in the most gruesome manner, and all that for the money. But we see that one person who is not part of the family chooses to care for them. This is where the rare goodness takes itself in, proving that relatives are not everything. We have brothers fighting over a will and partition in about seventy five percent of the households, at least half of them actually showing them in public. We have brothers and sisters filing cases against each other and even against their parents, sometimes taking the matter into their owns hands. It happens in movies, and when it happens in real life, its real worse.

Some people do pretend to value such relationships, but that is just plain acting. Some of them does the same to a certain someone to keep others away and a few others to gain something by love. There are a few others who stick to their blood relations to hate the relatives of their spouse, but then the question remains how they can love their wife and children in that case? How can someone just hate a person just because he is his or her spouse’s relative, in an attempt to make one’s own relatives seem superior? How can someone fight his or her own bloodline over money even when there is something to take for everyone in the family? Why doesn’t family come first any more rather than the word “me”? If things go like this, “You’re Next”.

Of Apes and Humans

Returning after watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and its messages for the present humanity – the species which is seeking violence and justifying the same with the distant past, and every group calling for blood just because the other religion or community not considered to be human, a post was a necessity. This is a shame that the modern world has brought upon itself makes them stoop to a level lower than animals. The movie gives the viewers certain lessons, and its relevance to the present world is higher than its contribution to the flick itself.

1. Violence is the dominant nature and need: It is seen that humans and apes do see each other as threats just because they are both different. It is the same problem that haunts humans who fight each other. Yes, people want everyone else to be like them, and there lies the problem. Even as war can’t be justified by any means, this hatred is boosted by people who fight each other in the social media and post fake images which completely nullifies their cause. The violence on the field is reflected even on the virtual world, and death of people from other groups is a necessity for some.

2. Peace is just temporary relief: Humans are without the ability to forgive and forget and therefore there will be no eternal peace; Ceasar acknowledges this by the end of the movie. People always have many genocides to justify what they are doing now, and it is a shame that they have to bring things which happened in the medieval era to give the feeling of rightful revenge to their evil deeds. The world has changed and they need to get out of their distant past and learn to be good to others in the present. Only then there will be everlasting peace.

3. There is evil in every group: It is only with such sadness and disappointment that Caesar acknowledge that it is his own people who are responsible for this plight while it was humans whom he expected to start the war. The presence of good among evil gives hope, but this evil which spreads among the good people is rather terrible. There is the indoctrination that one group or the other is bad and deserves to be killed, and this spread like wildfire, faster than anything which is not so evil. The enemy might change, but there is a possibility that there is always one.

4. Apes are among humans: The indoctrinated humans form the new generation apes. They only support their own people and hope for the people of other religion or community to die. Those who are not violent enough to do it on the streets do it on the social networking sites becoming a spamming device themselves, aping others sharing the photos put by them without even knowing that it is a fake image or an something that works against themselves thus making the whole process invalid. Some others choose to abuse a person as a part of the aping, and attempts to do so because someone else did the same earlier.

5. The need for individuality: The apes resemble the humans who lack individual ideas and they think that it is always about them without even choosing to have an identity. They depend on some random person who share some ideas. People believe others to such an extent that they think that Steven Spielberg killed a dinosaur, and so how can they not believe anything else? If the same thing is given a racial, religious or caste colour, the whole thing will be easier to believe because some people only consider their group as human, and they think as our human leader says “they are just animals”.

In the end, the only one who suffer will be the common man. Nobody really cares about the bloody politics which is bringing every act of war. There is only the need for co-existence, and for that, the change should be made at the root level, with the next generation being taught the values. But there is nothing to be done, as they have already left the children to find evil in their own way. The next generation is sure to bring a lot of hatred to this world, unless we guide the younger ones. Lets not be like the apes, and lets not be like the warmongers or the brainwashed supporters of violence.

Story of a Purge

There is something about the new generation people. They are angry, not just plain angry, but so angry that they need to go serial killer on their own people, even their friends and relatives. In that case, what is the chance of the common man whom they witness on the streets? Beware, people; the angry young men can take you on, and be careful when dealing with these people. You don’t know what they are capable of with the anger and frustration which have been going through them.

Some time ago, I had read something about a group of young men abusing and beating up an older man just because they found his vehicle ahead of their “super” automobile. This can’t be considered much different from what the cricket fans have been doing to Maria Sharapova, and yet this is also a case of disrespect to the elders which is the result of “spare the rod and spoil the child”, and the parents also suffer from a child who is not rightly disciplined, and it is such a shame.

This is where the movie The Purge comes to the picture. The angry young men need to purge their emotions and earlier they had chosen Sharapova for the same. A higher option is surely the life of crime and this movie talks about the need for a bigger purge, which means that people won’t have to abuse someone at frequent intervals, like Keralites have been doing with Renjini Haridas, Sreesanth, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Aashiq Abu. It is a shame that it has become so difficult to control negative emotions, and the need for such a purge is rather disgusting.

Coming back to the movie, it has a period of twelve hours every year set as the time for the purge in which every crime goes. All things become legal, and some people will have the resources to defend while the others will just have to become the victims. The number of purgers will be a lot more than expected, and even your best friends or relatives can kill you. It is a terrible situation, and all this hatred and abuse which is going on in the Facebook pages is actually a kind of purge, a harbinger of something worse.

The Purge has lots of elements which should terrorize people, with the absence of any feeling of remorse or regret among the purgers, the blood and gore, as well as the declaration that these criminals are good, educated youth. That should bring a question about the point of education as we have seen what kind of words a group of literate people use on Facebook, but that would be another story. Here, the purge is about the absence of a heart and a soul.

The Purge has a terrible thing at its centre. The idea of such a purge itself is horrifying, but in the end, this movie is a violent movie with a message against all kinds of violence and has a stance for equality and kindness among all. We all have the tendency towards violence and it can’t be ignored. But the problem is that people only care about violence happening towards their own, or those who are kind of like their own. Otherwise, these people seems to find it okay, and it is impossible for them to realize that it happens both ways.

Yes, the purgers are the educated youth, and literacy can't bring anything unless you choose (screenshot from the movie)

The tendency for violence will only increase among the upcoming generation as they are introduced to the world of blood and gore at such an early age. They are not disciplined and live the way they want to. Therefore, it is natural to get abused just because some young person rams the car into yours and start abusing you even as it is clearly their fault. You can’t argue with them, as they don’t listen to the voice of reason, and the new tendency is to completely avoid the word of God.

This is Dogville

Dogville gives you an order, and that order is to talk about it which can’t be avoided. The effect of knowing about its mere existence is that you have to feel and talk about it. Dogville is that cute town in the middle of nowhere, where people are supposed to be simple and good. It is that place where civilization has less effect and therefore it should be beyond the evils of modernity. But William Golding’s Lord of the Flies has already taught us about the danger of the same, but this one has some distant contact with people and therefore that problem is not directly visible.

Dogville is a 2003 movie which has Nicole Kidman as the central character of Grace who runs away from gangsters and is provided asylum in Dogville. They do demand things in return, and even as it begins as some physical labour, things get worse and she is turned into a slave. It is not a bloody violent movie, but is still disturbing in many ways, and it strikes a poisonous arrow right at the heart of the innate goodness which is supposed to exist in all human beings. Once we are poisoned with that arrow, it will grow in us, not like an idea in the mind, but like a stake in the heart. I will share just four areas of that infestation.

Grace (Nicole Kidman) among the apples, a shot which stays in the minds of the viewers.

Grace (Nicole Kidman) among the apples, a shot which stays in the minds of the viewers.

1. Inherent evil in man: The innate goodness in man is replaced by the inherent evil which goes back to centuries while leaving a mark on the way as time flies. This evil can spring out of anywhere, whenever the situation is appropriate. As the Overlord (game character) would say, “evil always finds a way”. This tendency to sin which stems from the idea of original sin is something from which humans can never really escape. It is easy for humans to fall into the abyss of temptation, and it has even happened to saints. The same can be said about the townfolks’ treatment of Grace.

2. Contempt for outsiders: Here, Grace was not one of them and therefore an outsider who was to be treated differently. They can’t show that directly, but there is always the fear of the unknown, and it develops into hatred up-to an extent. These people will never be accepted into the group, but are often considered as an appendage who can be thrown out or even abused. The beginning should be from denying some basic human rights. We can see that certain people in some religions and castes do talk in the same way and only caring for their own people. Such people are just another version of these inhabitants of the town.

3. Biblical connection: The name of our heroine Grace, which can be seen as “the grace of God” is rather the person sent to that world to help them as they give refuge to her, as she does prove herself more than just useful in their daily life. But she would be tortured and abused just because she was not one of them, and there were enough reasons created by random thoughts just to mistreat her. In the end, she will be called back, but she will be willing to offer them another chance, but not for long as another Sodom and Gomorrah awaited.

4. Democracy’s limits: The town depends on votes, and this might be the best form of government. But if their supposed leader could choose by himself, wouldn’t it have been better for Grace? Everyone is so much powered by their own selfishness, and instead of thinking for the common good or about the damsel in distress, they choose wrong. The evil people can always outnumber the good and devastate the purpose of democracy. The people who are lesser in number will never get their rights, even if their demands are justified.

The outsider in chains, as the society turns more and more against the other.

The outsider in chains, as the society turns more and more against the other.

Dogville can be your religion, caste, creed or community. It can be your land, and when you mistreat someone in your world for being an outsider, you are only strengthening that presence of inherent evil. It is okay to fear and take precautions as we know the story of “the camel and the arab” and there will some people ready to do the same to us, but that won’t give the right to hate. There are two things I am sure about; I have never loved a performance from Nicole Kidman like this, and there is no movie that has kept me thinking like Dogville. But be warned that this is not a movie for entertainment.

Vampires of the Soul

There is no other book that I loved more than Dracula, and I used to read many versions of the same in English and Malayalam during my childhood, and I have known Bram Stoker before I knew William Shakespeare. Count Dracula has been part of my early life more than anyone else and even inspired me to read more horror and made me watch my first horror movies, and my first horror movie in English to be watched on a VCR, John Carpenter’s Vampires. It would introduce me to the entity called “the vampire” which would never be redefined better than it did for me in this work.

Dracula was one person who never really scared me. But people around the world were worth being afraid of more than this one vampire. Some of them suck the life out of you, others money, and the worst of the suck the happiness out of you, and they are the vampires of the heart and soul. Most of them feel that they are the only people in the world, and the Earth no longer revolves around the sun, but instead exist for their own needs and all the people in the world are made for them to use. This one-human-centric universe have been sucking everything good out of our known world for centuries.

Consider the case of Count Dracula. He wanted to migrate to another country leaving his rural world behind. For the same, he leaves his old world behind and is ready to blend in with the so called urban people. But what does he get in the end? He is forced to keep running and in the end gets a stake through the end for trying to understand other cultures and mingle with them. He was a man of nature, blended with his natural environment and feared by the people of his land due to him being an introvert.

Now, there comes the problem of being introvert. There are many organizations for supporting even the dumbest things in the world saying that it is one’s personal life and there is the choice to be different. But being an introvert is rather too difficult, as the other take away or rather suck everything away, and bening terribly talkative has been becoming a need, and on the tip of the talks, there would be big lies which will help one to advance in life. The others who can’t lie or show off their vanity will suffer like Dracula.

Still, the society considers introverts and people who can’t use tell a beautiful lie every hour or so as not easily acceptable. Being talkative should be a choice, and when people are chosen according to the performances during a few minutes of interview, it is a case of losing the right person for the job and instead finding someone who can talk and justify all mistakes and atrocities. You can’t find the right person by talking for a few minutes, because lies are too easy to say for the new generation designed just to succeed. This is the world of fake smiles, and the season of faking love.

Dracula was undoubtedly an introvert and a man who couldn’t socialize easily, and the use of diaries, letters and logs in the work and making it an epistolary one means that it was rather the idea of a group of people from one side of the society, and even the ideas claimed to be of other people could have also been forged. May be he had some bad teeth, and it is also possible that he was too much addicted to wine – there goes the ideas about bad teeth and drinking the red fluid. He just belonged to another culture and it is usual to be afraid of the customs and traditions, plus he had his own special abilities.

It is a usual misconception to related Dracula to the devil, and it is plain wrong. The vampire is surely not the devil, and beyond that, the Count has a personality which is far better than this plagued society which is not just affected by hatred towards other religion, caste, race and community, but also towards the random people who don’t know one’s idol or their most awesome person, a sportsperson, a movie star – any random celebrity. Yes, vampires have to look scary and not like a dumb teenager, but the story of the Count is debatable. Dracula was million times better than most of the vain humans of this age even on his worst day. Yes, the Indian cricket fans have already proved the same with their racist and sexist comments.
