And then the TV Series

I have developed a love for TV series only recently. The case of Game of Thrones has been of eternal recommendation. Everybody loves that one, and Sherlock has its long list of admirers, and after this writing is complete, I hope to create more for Hannibal too. The next to watch on my list are VikingsSpartacus and Breaking Bad. I made the choice to skip True Blood and The Vampire Diaries as a Twilight reminder came up and that was shocking.

For a long time, I had believed that Robert Downey Jr. is the only one who could be Sherlock Holmes, and I have even considered the man the one true Holmes and less identified him with being Iron Man. Benedict Cumberbatch is not the only person who changed my views on the true Sherlock, because there was Martin Freeman as Doctor Watson and Lara Pulver as Irene Adler. Jude Law was very good, but Martin was so perfect in the role. Rachel McAdams was the cutest Irene with that hair style, but Lara Pulver became more of that character. Now I have two favourite people each for all three of these characters.

I might still prefer to watch Holmes with that older setting because it is the one true investigator from my childhood, but with this cast, Sherlock TV series is always a joy to watch. It was only the third season which was a let down for me, and the credit for the same goes the very last episode, as “His Last Vow” left me less interested. The secret of identity of Watson’s wife and the villain with Appledore Mind Palace felt ridiculous; it was only the possible return of Jim Moriarty that gave me the desire to wait for the next season. Season Two was my big favourite and Season One also felt awesome.

GAME OF THRONES [Seasons: 5. Watched: 5]

I came quite late to the Game of Thrones fan club which meant that I had to watch four seasons in a week and also got to watch the fifth episode soon enough. The result is that now I am left waiting with so much desire to know what happens next; the fifth season’s end had me desiring to know what is next, more than ever. There is no other program which has kept me with such desire to know what happens next, and never in my life has so many of my favourite characters been dead. Well, the Vampire Team has hoped that some of these dead people join the group (only those with heads on the necks).

As I expect for a lot of more people to die, I keep my trust on Tyrion Lannister. I was sure that the character played by Sean Bean had ninety nine percent chance of dying, but I should have kept it at a higher level. I have loved how the characters change and twists happen throughout the movie, and how those unexpected things come out of nowhere. I have special love for the undead, and I will also support a few minor characters whose names shall revealed after their deaths. Until now, I am sure not to love only one character, Sansa Stark, and everybody knows it. In the end, Game of Thrones is just the truth about humanity.

Based on the characters in the novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, Hannibal arrives to take the gore and psychological horror to another level – rather too violent for the normal viewer; a lot more than Game of Thrones, and much more disturbing. Most of us might know Hannibal Lecter as Anthony Hopkins who received the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal in Silence of the Lambs. Here Mads Mikkelsen comes up with another brilliant performance as the psychiatrist and serial killer who plays mind games with the FBI. Hugh Dancy plays Will Graham, the FBI special agent who discusses his problems as well as the cases with the devil himself as he descends into an abyss of terrifying minds. The murderers are many, and cops are less here! And there are amazing quotes flying everywhere.

I have watched only two seasons of the series, and found them too interesting to stop. Caroline Dhavernas is another complicated addition, as her intelligent character remains clueless for most of the time in the two episodes. Laurence Fishburne of The Matrix, Othello and Event Horizon makes a powerful impact here. Lara Jean Chorostecki as Freddie Lounds is fun, and Kacey Rohl as Abigail Hobbs is one cute addition in a world of chaos. You also get to see the Scream Queen and the Grand Lady of Horror Movies, Katharine Isabelle who plays another character with her own special weirdness. Almost everyone is strange and a possible serial killer, and that makes this series really special 😀

Still Looking for Thrones

*You might started watching this series a lot earlier and came up with certain points about the same, but this is new to me. Unlike what some people might think, this is not a review or an analysis of the television programme. ***I have recently managed to watch the series Game of Thrones, thanks to my cousin brother – I have been looking for this one for a very long time after being having so much of recommendations. Yes, I came across this one too late, as I couldn’t trust my internet connection enough to get it to me early enough. Now with the fifth season coming up, I am happy to have watched all the fourty episodes from the four seasons in four days, and it is the fastest for me ever – ten hours each day for a season. You can argue that the fact that I am jobless has contributed more than anything else to watch them continuously and to write this strange and long post, I am not going to deny that.

As I watched Game of Thrones, I didn’t feel that it happened in another world, and this battle or civil war between the many noble houses for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms is not so different from our present situation, and is close enough to our political parties and their games to come to power. Yes, there might be more similarities to the world’s known past with those kings, queens and their wars which were written somewhere in the history books from the viewpoint of the victorious people, hiding their own brutal massacres and genocides along with showing the enemy as the evil ones. Even nowadays, there is too much focus on who is the enemy, and we are not allowed to find it out by ourselves with ideas forced on us – surprisingly, even the educated falls prey to the same.

As people are forced to read the history that has been re-written so many times, we still have newer version of history forced upon us by different political parties. Some of them come up with new and improved opinions about historical figures with the strong belief that they are not going to come back from the dead to give an opinion, and the people who voted for them are just some idiots just because they elected these representatives. What they do there is to behead the dead again, just like the kings of Westeros have been son much interested in such executions. Some of them even flay the dead with their brutal words only to spread hatred against other communities and to keep their Iron Throne. Yes, they still indirectly say “off with their heads”.

It has always been about power. Do we need to believe that any of those so called great kings who forced the historians to write their own histories were better than the others who valiantly defended their kingdoms and lost with pride only to be called the barbarians? Do we need to feel for the kings who glorify their deeds and hide their actions of evil just because they can? Some of them were actually so evil that their deeds automatically became parts of the brutal history. Still, those who hold the power always had the special abilities to hide their evil in the present as well as to a future generation, and so will some of our politicians and celebrities who look down up-on the common man.

Even in sports, it is just the same. We have seen someone like Sreesanth being caught in the match-fixing scam, but the bigger names always escape. If you need to escape from being corrupt, be at the top – it is like a well-known lesson, and all those little birds know enough about it as they try to rise from the bottom. Even in the case of all the corruption cases, are we foolish enough to think that the biggest names even come close to being exposed? The mathematics of the crores that we see related to the corruption may not be even a moderately big amount at all. The powerful ones have another viewpoint and they are also looked upon with another set of alien eyes. We never really come close to it.

No matter in which field you thrive, choose to be at the top of them all, and it is the best way to be the evil. Being rich and powerful along with having powerful allies is always important for someone who wants to take advantage of others. Like those common people who had no idea why the kings fought their wars and like those soldiers who just murdered random people because the kings said, we the people of this generation also listen to the words of all politicians who fight their own Game of Thrones. Even with those who pretend to hate each other when we see them on the media, are they actually fighting a war against each other or having unholy alliances here and there just to gain their motives? And those religious heads who supports divisions has no relation to any religion at all.

There are all kinds of weapons in this world, and the nuclear ones are not the strongest of them. What hurts humanity the most is the division created by the men in power, for appeasing different communities, religions and castes along with creating a kind of reservation along the lines of the nobility just with another name, and teaching people to hate others in the name of nationalism which often takes the form of racism. We can always expect more reservations to come based on the vote banks – and the General category are the slaves in this case; asking for a fair and equal treatment when caught in the Game of Throne is impossible. The result is that hatred, racism and cateism becomes equal to patriotism and religious identity, and just like noble houses fighting each other, the force people to turn against one another, and negative effect of the same goes directly to the lives of the people. In the end, it is only the undead, or the death itself which can save us.

***The people in power sings their songs of fire and ice, and it is up-to the common man to realize that it is all part of a game and there is absolutely no service to the society which is intended in politics; if so, the common man would have been living better lives and the politicians a lot like any other person with their bank balance. The bloody aim is to gain that throne which has been corroding due to the dirty effect of that evil which has been bestowed up on it and has inspired a chemical reaction directly from the perpetual depths of inferno. Still, there is nothing like sitting on that throne, or rather the thrones. You listen to them and you become part of that big game of thrones which has no place for emotions except for when they play with your emotions. ***The images used in this blog post are from the Official Facebook Page of the Game of Thrones series.
