About Useful Chatting

The modern technology has provided us with more than one opportunity to talk and communicate with each other; it still finds newer ways for the same and this is one procedure which might never end as long as civilization exists. The telephone itself was a big thing and then the mobile phones. But chatting has been thing which changed a lot of things. Lets take the useless and meaningless chat stuff away, and one has to admit that chatting is easier and should provide better result compared to talking through the phone especially when emotional stuff is not involved.

1. Everything is very clear: You can use links and photos to make a point and make things clear whenever needed. The amount of detail that you can have here is a lot. There is nothing lost with a bad network, and things come on screen efficiently as any difficulties in communication can no longer be a barrier here. You can always check the earlier messages to know how things have been going, the information can be stored without forgetting. It will remain clear as it has always been. There will be a record.

quikr (2)

2. It has nothing to do with emotions: You needn’t get your bad mood get in the way and chatting helps you with the same. It can’t affect the person on the other end or the both. Your tone can’t affect the person on the other side in making decisions, and you can maintain your privacy by not revealing the phone number. You can be yourself, but still not be uncomfortable. There will be no mobile number going around for everywhere, and as most peope never wanted such revealing, they can have a sigh of relief.

3. You can talk and receive at the same time: This is a big bonus as a lot of time is saved here along with the money that is spent with calling people through any mobile network. Calling by phone means that you have to talk and wait and some people never allow others to talk as they go on and on without stopping, and there are another kind of people who can manipulate the others – chatting controls this interaction in a good way up-to an extent.

quikr (1)

It will help the buyers and sellers in a website like Quikr a lot. This should be what Quikr Nxt is aiming for. With the catchy tagline “No Fikar. Chat Quikr”, the aim is sure to be reached. Here, you don’t have to reveal the number either and buyer-seller contact might have never been easier, and it also means that a record of the transaction will always be there, with no need to remember or write down things. It can’t be any better.

Quikr has been getting bigger and it was the need to get better, for which they seem to be striving. This new feature called Quikr Nxt should bring wonders here. There are so many users on Quikr, and I would say that this is a right move considering the fact that a lot of online and mobile users are going to find chatting the better and the easier way. Quikr is surely ahead in the ideas, and just like the name suggests, is quicker than the others.

The Great Overlord Saga

It was one of the coldest and the darkest nights of the season, and there was a small team waiting outside a mansion located on the countryside, surrounded by huge trees. They were all having stylish black capes with red borders and one of them held a lantern which gave out red light.

“Keep your swords ready, my dear soldiers. This is your day of glory” ordered the Vampire Bat.

“Excuse me, sir. Why are we actually here?” asked the Vampire Hamster.

“What? Why is this guy even here? He is not even in the list. Who is he?” asked the Vampire Bat.

“He is a replacement for the Vampire Panda who has gone for his part-time job; to act as the Kung-fu Panda. He is good at being annoying. Hamsters have very short memory and we don’t even have to pay him” murmered the Vampire Owl.

“Okay, my dear vampire apprentice friends. We are here to fight the Legendary Pimple Overlord, defeat him, and save our leader and the best uncle that we ever had, Uncle Dracula from having that terrible pimple infection on his face. This is the day we shall always remember. It is mostly because our life is pretty much boring and we usually waste time sitting at home, but still this is going to be a day of great heroism like never before in the history of the vampire kind. I am kind of like Achilles, and so you can follow me with confidence” shouted the Vampire Bat.

garnier (2)

“Yes, exactly as he said” added the Vampire Owl.

“Vampiredom forever” shouted the team together.

“I am bad in Mathematics, but still I am going to count till three. Ready, one, two and three” finished the Vampire Bat, as the team of Vampire Bat, Vampire Owl, Vampire Crocodile, Vampire Penguin, Vampire Alligator and Vampire Hamster kicked open the door and entered the house to come up against the Pimple Overlord, also known as the Man with the Thousands Pimples.

“That broken door will cost a total of 447 gold coins. Thank you. I hope you back through the same way” said the Overlord.

“This is the Pimple Overlord? A thousand pimples? Where are they?” asked the Vampire Crocodile.

“I have been using Garnier Pure Active Neem and all of them have disappeared, and I have even lost my title of the Pimple Overlord due to the same” said the Overlord.

“I have lost the purpose of my life” shouted the Vampire Owl.

“I wanted to fight with my sword before forgetting how to do that. I wanted to be a Musketeer Hamster” said the depressed Vampire Hamster.

“This is not the end, brethren. We shall find another one, at another time, because the story of pimples never end. It causes more problems than any other thing of the same calibre. We shall bring the Garnier Pure Active Neem for our aid and we shall fight and win our battles which will be recorded in golden letters in the history of vampirism” said the Vampire Bat.

“Vampire army, disperse” shouted the Vampire Owl.

The team returned to Uncle Dracula to give him the good news, that Garnier Pure Active Neem has got to the root of the problem, and there was hope for him to get his old face back. Dracula could be the awesome seeker and sucker of blood again, and could lead his pack with confidence.

The Question of Choice

I have had a life which had lots of gadgets since my childhood. There might not be that many during these days, but there is always a good number of them which makes way into my wishlist, as I have made a few lists about the same in my laptop as well as in Flipkart. I was one of the first students to have a personal computer at home when I was at school, and undoubtedly the first student in my class to have a desktop computer; it was what started my love for gadgets on another day along with my gaming days and nights which seemed eternal.

As far as gadgets are concerned, Asus is a name that comes to my mind all the time. I am a big fan of that impressive Asus ZenFone 5 with red colour, and hope that it would be my mobile phone on one day. There are also two Asus laptops at my home, both being the smaller and portable ones, and I have had a good time with both of them. I have been a user of ASUS motherboards and graphics cards along with one monitor from the same company for quite a long time. So, lets go straight to the two new computer models from ASUS which easily catches our attention due to many nice and awesome reasons.

asus

When the choice of power and portability comes, I would want to choose both, but my favourite gadget of interest is ASUS All In One PC ET2040, not by a huge margin but by just a small distance. I have never had an all-in-one PC in my life and neither have I used one of these new generation things of style. It has also beem quite some time since I last had a desktop computer. Built-in one hour UPS is a very nice factor which has my interest, as the external UPS never really made me interested.

Along with its gesture control and quickness, what impresses me a lot is the presence of so many USB ports. I see so many options there, as all of my desktops and laptops never had this many USB port options. I was always in the need of a good number of them, with my USB internt device, USB storage devices, printer and mobile needing them regularly. More the number of USB slots, that much better it gets for me. This is also stylish and has awesome looks. It is more like a hybrid, and a special computer.

asuss

Then the other choice that we have here, ASUS EeeBook X205TA is so thin, and should suit me whenever I go on those nice little trips. One has to love its curves and compared to it, none of my laptops are enough stylish – the one I am using now is the fifth laptop I have bought and the least stylish of them all. The better looking ones were Asus indeed, as I have had two from the same company and my parents are using them now. The system here looks so light and suitable to pack and take anywhere, and the long duration battery supports the same. The high battery duration has been my weakness when choosing the right laptop.

I love its price too, and I would say that with the low cost, this gadget is something that I would buy when I have a chance. Soon, it will be the time for the next laptop in my life as my present system is huge and bulky, and I am managing with it only because I have been at home these days. I have had a detailed look at both the dark blue and red versions which seemed to be the best, and I was surprised how good they looked – I would choose the red one because it looks more special. I would need both of them, and I shall keep the first one as the common computer for everyone at home.

My Halloween Valentine

Even as it has been quite a long time since I had a crush and good times have gone and disappeared too quickly, I would like to use this opportunity provided by Closeup’s Cupid Games to make an attempt on how I would propose to my crush on a Valentine’s day. A certain amount of weirdness is present in this blog post as expected, and I hope my readers can forgive it as they have done for my many other posts 😀

The time would be late afternoon, around seven or seven thirty. It would be on the Badminton court which has been one of my favourite and the luckiest places, and there would be her, waiting for a game. I have always been more impressed by her shuttle skills rather than anything else. Being a jobless person, I should be the first one there, but I am also the lazier one. The others are those with even a lesser amount of punctuality; being usually late and that makes it perfect and clear that I can be there at the right time.

closeup (1)

I am not with the strength that I used to be, and the teenage energy was lost some time ago, with only a few things left that bring me forward. But she was different, and so was I – the people of the Badminton court. She was never like the other girls around, and it had nothing to do with the looks. I have been pretty much weird myself, and therefore I thought it was going to be good for me, and my idea also was supposed to be strange.

I am getting older and friends are getting married; the fact is that I am feeling much older than I am due to these wedding invitations. I know that the number of people asking me to get married will keep increasing that I might soon be forced to put my face on a matrimony site, and start drinking tea at many houses with girls who were unlucky enough to have their profiles on the same matrimony sites. Drinking tea might be the only positive thing about that. Meanwhile, this was a girl whom I had known for around fifteen and half years.

closeup (2)

So, with not much time to waste before getting even older as the single young man, I would go with my Ghostface mask and ask her to have a cup of tea with me, and offer to drink tea with her forever, like the vampires do with their nicely brushed teeth and fangs calling for eternal life. Halloween is my favourite celebration and it has been a connecting link for us. So I wouldn’t think that she can disagree to that. Neither would she doubt the quality of my mask.

We would go for tea in the Chevrolet Beat or on the Honda Dio to the nearest restaurant, and would have that cup of tea. She would also need a Masala Dosa, and as I shall be well-prepared for the same with the wallet. We were never known to be the more talkative ones, and with another cup of tea, I would ask her to begin drinking tea at my home as soon as possible, as more waiting meant more complications, with both of us not getting any younger.

Littering in the Moonlight

The vampires were having a tough discussion just outside the Dracula Castle, as the Vampire Bat, the Vampire Owl and the Vampire Snake were present with Uncle Dracula.

“No, not even in the moonlight, said Uncle Dracula. “You are not even supposed to litter in the sunlight, and then how can you litter in the awesome moonlight which is more precious to us vampires?” asked Dracula.

“But it was the Halloween moonlight with cool vampire people all around, and I was drunk. Really, really drunk” said the Vampire Snake.

“He is a snake with special venomous spit superpower. Even if he doesn’t throw waste around, how can you ask him not to spit?” asked the Vampire Owl.

“Because all of you have taken the pledge to keep the Dracula Castle and its premises clean. Being drunk is not an excuse. Nothing is an excuse” screamed Dracula.

“But the Mummy spat over that tree on the side of the road, and you don’t want to know what the local werewolves do. The ghosts of the living dead did something even worse” said the Vampire Snake.

lttr

“They do not belong to the vampire category, and won’t come under me. The Mummy is level three desert catgeory. They don’t even come inside the castle. Our current collaboration is with the zombies. Cleanliness begins at home. This is our vampire ancestral home. Do you understand the highly intellectual and vampirically superior words of unlimited wisdom which come out of my mouth?” yelled Dracula.

“Yes, listen to Uncle Dracula. If he raises his blood pressure too much at this age, we might have no uncle, and I might inherit this castle. I will end up being so rich and may be construct a tennis court on the front right corner and the statue of myself holding a tea cup on the left side” added the Vampire Bat.

“What? Wait, no. I am not raising my blood pressure. I am just asking this new vampire apprentice whom you brought from that local tea shop to behave and be a good citizen rather than being a Great Litterburg” said Dracula.

“But I promise not to litter again” said the Vampire Snake.

“See, he is a good vampire apprentice” added the Vampire Bat.

“Or I shall feed him to the snakes in the pond” threatened Dracula.

“But he is the Vampire Snake. What is the point in putting him with normal snakes?” asked the Vampire Owl.

“Oh, yes. I meant the crocodiles. Those little crocodiles that I have like the early villains of cinema. I will throw him to the crocodile pound and clap once, laughing loudly like an awesome villain. Damn, I am really getting old; my memory is failing me” Dracula made it clear.

“Thank you, great old vampire lord” said the Vampire Snake while taking a bow.

“See, this is why I bite people. Always use the trash can. Littering is bad. By doing such things, you are working against the environment as well as your nation. And for the sake of each and every living vampire, please don’t spit” advised Dracula.

ltr

“As if he doesn’t already have enough reasons” murmered the Vampire Owl.

“I have heard that he is going to act in a commerical against drinking and smoking, plus supporting care for stray dogs by making them join the werewolves. He is into social causes now” whispered the Vampire Bat.

“We were never the real villains, right?” asked the Vampire Owl.

“Why? No, never. We are not even remotely evil; just see these litterbugs and the rest of the minions of the real dark world. Uncle Dracula can’t even fly around in the invisible mode these days with people leople littering from their vehicles” added the Vampire Bat.

“We vampires realize this. When will the humans understand the same?” wondered the Vampire Owl.

The Great Vampire Pimple

Count Dracula was ready to deliver the much awaited sermons ‘To Drink or Not to Drink Blood from Humans With Cholesterol‘ and ‘How to Drink from Drunk People‘ when he saw the little pimple on the right side of his cheek, and got his attention again on another one on the left of his nose. He waited for twenty four seconds in memory of the twenty four thousand and twenty four people he had drunk blood from, and screamed “Mayday; vampire mayday”.

Vampire Bat, Vampire Owl, Vampire Penguin, Vampire Panda and Vampire Crocodile came in at the same speed, and hit Dracula dropping them all on the floor with the Panda on the top.

“Get off, you fake vampire Panda. We all know that you are just the Kungfu Panda faking to be the Vampire Panda” yelled the Vampire Owl.

“This is all your fault, Vampire Crocodile. My bones are breaking. What have you been eating?” asked the Vampire Penguin.

“I am the one who said mayday. So can I be saved first before arguing, please?” asked Count Dracula.

garnier (2)

“Yes, your honour, Lord, legend, and everything else about which neither we or you have no knowledge about. Sir Dracul” greeted the team.

“My dear vampires of the world. I stand before you, weak and unable to control this evil which has forced itself upon me. This has never happened in the past, and as you know that I am very old, there is a chance that such a thing has never happened to a vampire” announced Count Dracula.

“What is it exactly? I don’t see anything” remarked the Vampire Penguin.

“You see my face? This is what happened” said Dracula, pointing to the pimples.

“Holy Vampire Chronicles” screamed the Vampire Crocodile.

“I doubt that this is an evil plot by the humans. May be they have used the genetic research to unleash an evil virus on us which can lead to the end of our kind. They are training special mutant soldiers whom they call the scientists” said the Vampire Panda.

“Can you live with it?” asked the Vampire Bat.

“No, I can’t. It is draining my confidence and feeding on my vampiric abilities. It is a lot like a parasite sucking my energy. I can’t even transform into potato chips now” complained a sad Dracula.

garnier (1)

“Holy Vampire Coffins” screamed the Vampire Crocodile.

“May be we can postpone the program and you can use this Garnier Pure Active Neem so that you will get better” the Vampire Bat came up with the opinion.

“Yes, do it please. Tell them that I have been called by the Vampire Secret Service on a mission to save the world from a zombie apocalypse” said Dracula as he kick-started the vampire chariot.

“All vampires disperse and spread the news” proclaimed the Vampire Bat, as the meeting ended.

The Vampire Cat and the Vampire Crow were sent to the members of the community with information about the next possible date of the sermon, and a packet of Garnier Pure Active Neem was also sent to each one of them to make sure that nobody gets pimples anymore. The Vampire Penguin decided to stay and wait for the next occasion.

Life Gets a Lot Quicker

Having its inception in 2008, Quikr has been very useful in the lives of so many people, as I have heard about it from common men – even as I am yet to use their services directly. I have been interested in their advertisements and have thought that this would be a nice and very interesting option if I am ever to shift to another place, quite far away from my home. Such an option is never far away for me, as I haven’t really settled down in my life yet. The choices still seem to be kind of open for me.

There are many places where I would not mind relocating to – the list includes those cities which I have already visited – Kolkata, Calicut, Trivandrum, Chennai, Thanjavur, Kollam, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruchirappalli, Mangalore and Hyderabad. Among those options, there would also be Bangalore – yes, that is a more possible choice for relocating. There are so many of my relatives and friends there and I have been invited so many times to travel there. Yes, there are so many engineers there, and most of the people that I know, happens to be B.Tech or M.Tech with their qualification.

You can always move somewhere with these necessary things :D

You can always move with these necessary things, and buy the rest through Quikr 😀

This invitation procedure is something that has been going on for a very long time with no chance to reach an end. My choice have been to do PhD somewhere there, an idea which has been there for a long time. I have been transformed into an old man with a post graduation in English Language and Literature with these times of doing almost nothing of much use. Bangalore has been the first choice for many people I know, and it had to be in my list too.

So, the first idea would be to get a house for rent, and I have already found a nice and small house through the real estate category of Quikr, which seems to be a good option. I also see the part-time job which I can combine with that PhD if I can write and pass the test and interview with that luck which has evaded me in the offline life. Yes, that would be a perfect combination right there, if things work out nicely.

Then there is the need to get a Persian kitten and name her Simona (or even Agnieszka) which should be even easier with Quikr. A few beds and the rest of the furniture can be easily bought through the same place, along with a few electronic appliances, especially refrigerator and washing machine. The car needn’t be there, but there should be that scooter, which can once again be bought, as I see some nice offers already, right now at the website.

Even Simona the Kitty feels the need to buy a vehicle from Quikr :D

Even Simona the Kitty should feel the urgent need to buy a nice vehicle through Quikr 😉

I also see the services for repair, which I can use when needed – and the need will be there, no doubt. May be I will also buy an aquarium which I saw in the website if it is still there, along with those nice little lovebirds there. If things get better, there can be another mobile and laptop through Quikr, who knows? No need to get frantic; no need to wander around. Everything is here and the options are rather endless when you have a look. There will be a lot of small things to take to Bangalore from here too, that is for sure.

All the images used in this blog post are mine only, taken on my own camera, the Sony Cybershot DSC-W310. This blog post was written as part of the Happy Hours Campaign from Quikr in association with Indiblogger.

The Choices of Life

Gillette Venus and BlogAdda want you to write about someone, a woman who made a journey from ‘OR’ to ‘AND’, the one who immediately comes to my mind is my mother. I would think that the same applies to many other people too, and I had always wanted to write something about her, and it is good to be given such an opportunity rather than keep thinking about it.

There are a few things that I have heard about her from her brothers and cousins. Among them, the most prominent one is about her double promotion in the school. It is something that I have not heard much about, but I know that only the best gets that. Another thing that I have known is that my grandparents wanted her to be a doctor as my grandfather himself was one. But yes, my mother always had better ideas.

That old wedding photo which serves as the "mandatory photo of the person" :D

That old wedding photo – half of it serves as the “mandatory photo of the person” 😀

Her first preference was always to get a job at a firm owned by the government, and for which she attended MA Sociology at Saint Teresa’s College, Cochin. Obviously, getting her married off was the need for her parents, especially as her sister was married off very early. But she made sure that she got a job right after her course making sure that it was not just an OR for her, but an AND – she was going to work and then get married.

It was not really the pattern to follow at that time among her relatives as there were not many working women among her close relatives, and neither would there be among my father’s family whom she was to marry after a few years. But she had chosen to be ahead of the age, and get that job at the Union Bank of India. That was her journey from OR to AND, not without difficulty, but with confidence.

On the day she retired, the rain never stopped for more than a few minutes :D

On the day she retired, even the rain never stopped for more than a few minutes 😀

She could follow her heart at that time period, and remains an inspiration for me when I struggle to follow mine. I am surprised at so many so called “achieving aunties” who think only about money twenty four hours a day, and I am glad to have a mother who acknowledges my right to study more, and also my privilege to stay single until I get settled in my way. There are always those relatives who are not ready to agree and pass on the judgments, and there is always one person who knows better; my mother. Now she has just retired after thirty seven years of service at the bank, after balancing her work and family life so well.

And then when it is the time to honour and celebrate the women in my life, there is just one who stands above the rest. Yes, there are not many other women who would let me share their stories and give me permission to put their photos on a blog too 😀 I had my difficulties in getting this photo too, but this was the better option as she didn’t want any of her newer photos to be used. Yes, this is also one of my favourite photos of my parents 😛

The Curse of Pimples

There are not many more physically disturbing things than having skin problems. Among them, the problem with pimples is that they become part of the face. The bigger problem is when they get irritating and we end up scratching. I have had my dose of pimples in the past, and even as it has disappeared now, there are times when some of those manage to come up and give some trouble. I have had skin problems, and skin abscesses has been also part of life. So, I know how bad it can be.

The loss of confidence: Pimples surely cause the loss of confidence. It is not something as complicated as the plot of Interstellar and you don’t need an alien creature to come through some wormhole to tell you that. The effect of pimple on confidence is something that can be guessed with ease. Wherever you go, whether for a seminar or presentation, and also for an important interview, the pimples are things that can hold you back, sometimes without even you knowing it.

garnier (2)

The effect on looks: Even as I am not that much of a believer in good looks, pimples are surely something that affects how we face the world because we know that there is something bad on our faces after coming across any mirror or recently taken photo. I have usually worried less about it, but it is easy to feel that people surely consider looks as a very significant thing, and they can certainly go to a certain amount of distress concerning this. No wonder the advertisement work more on this factor.

Continuous irritation: Some of them cause continuous irritation. There is that never-ending procedure there which goes on and on. It is more like some terrible Bollywood movies like Besharam, Dhoom 3, Chennai Express and Krrish 3 which irritates and irritates, never really letting us leave from the circle of that feeling. We want to keep scratching, but we have to control ourselves. Sometimes, there is more than just one, and it is more like a huge Barbarian army coming with all their tribes.

garnier (1)

The presence of pain: Pimples might be considered something of lesser pain compared to the abscess, but there are times when too contribute to the world of pain in a terrible manner. Sometimes, our nails do the trick and makes it worse. There can be the Lord of Pain, and pimples aren’t close to them, but with the combination that includes irritation, these minions of pain tries to do their best. There can also be acne, as you might be aware of it. The advanced condition can certainly be terrible.

Pimples are not considered as something nice, and you can see that some of the dark sorcerers and the evil witches have some advanced stages of pimples or some kind of similar growths on their face. They are actually overdone, but one can’t simply deny the bad effects on the same, on health. After all, the good skin itself is a sign of good health and it is something that everyone strives to have. On the end of the day, we have to agree that health is wealth.

The Day of the Wizard

*This post has the characters from the story of “Mayavi” from the children’s book Balarama owned by the Malayala Manorama Group. I am taking this opportunity to bring back those memories, and at the same time participate in the #WillYouShave activity.

The dark wizard Kuttusan sat there on the side of the river. His hopes of capturing the Mayavi the little devil were all gone now. He looked into the river and saw his face for the nth time and wondered what he had to do to change the situation. He had considered him the Indian Dumbledore as well as Gandalf, just with a little more of the dark shades – but he was failing, even after knowing the bling bling spell. Why? He wondered.

“Yo, kuttusan uncle. I have heard that you got problems” said a man dressed in red.

“Who are you? Dressed in red? Are you the new pilot of our magic spear?” Kuttusan wondered.

“I am Doctor Shave. I have come with a solution to your problems” he said.

“No, we don’t need doctors here. We get healed by magical powers, especially the tlatiluco spell of healing. There is no cure for baldness though, as you can see from my head. Are you from a hair fixing company? I would like that”.

“No, I am talking about your only problem. Mayavi. The one and only Mayavi”.

“What? How do you know? What about it?” Kuttusan asked.

“Everyone in Kerala knows about that. I used to read it as a kid, but it is only now that I understood the right way to do it. Please listen to my advice”.

“Yes, tell me. I am listening”.

“You have to shave” said Doctor Shave.

“What? Why should I do that? This is the symbol of great wizards. Haven’t you watched Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter? Why would you even have that name? Doctor Shave? Dinkan was a better name” screamed Kuttusan.

“Forget my name as it has no point. There is a lot of negativity going around your beard. Haven’t you seen Mayavi? He never grows a beard. All men should shave”.

“Even Luttappi doesn’t grow a beard. What is the use?” Kuttusan asked.

“That is another case. To be successful, you need the minimum use of brain” explained Doctor Shave.

“So, what do you suggest?” Kuttusan asked again.

“This is Gillette Mach3 razor, preferred by Doctor Shave” said the man as he gave it to Kuttusan.

As Doctor Shave left after giving Kuttusan the razor, he finished the shaving process in a few minutes. He felt fresh and ready to begin his adventure. His only real friends in the world and the essential partners in crime, Luttappi and Dakini were shocked to see the new appearance of Kuttusan. But the great wizard said “let’s go! spear power!” as they started their journey on the magic spear to capture the one little devil who had always escaped them.

On the magic spear - the photo after shaving not available :D

On the magic spear – the photo after shaving not available due to security reasons 😀

But on seeing Mayavi resting from a distance, Kuttusan understood the point, which was that there was no real point in what he was doing. He realized that his dark side had become part of his beard as he never shaved for hundreds of years. There was a curse that had passed down to him from generations ago. It had the power of pure evil being passed down to the upcoming generation, something that had awaken when the kid turns youth and grows the beard which was never shaved. Well, now it was broken.

It was the realization that made him ask Luttappi to turn around and go back despite the questions from Dakini. There was no need to capture a little good devil anymore. There were the real devils who needed some real kicking. A good Kuttusan was going to be really terrible for the bad guys. From a distance, Doctor Shave turned into the immortal witch Wraglersterenzul, who had put the spell on the family, and had decided to end the torture. With a smile on her face, she entered the wagon driven by her magic unicorn, and started travelling towards the end of the rainbow where her leprechaun friend awaited with a cup of tea.

No More Lies Needed

How can you justify a lie? Yes, there can be many reasons for that. Some people say that it was not really a lie, but somewhat the truth. But lets think about it. Lord Alfred Tennyson has given some idea about the same in his poem, The Grandmother – “That a lie which is half a truth is ever the blackest of lies”. You can add enough ornaments to the lies and make it sound sweet or like truth, but no, that doesn’t justify anything. A lie is a lie, no matter if it comes dressed in gold, silver, pearls or diamonds. There are no sweet lies, and there are no true lies. When you add something to it and make it more believable or lovable, it is another step towards cheating.

This takes me years back, when I was striving to get my driving license, something which I wished to achieve immediately after I turned eighteen. I have had good balance for the two-wheeler and I was driving the car just okay enough. So, I thought that may be I will struggle with the four-wheeler license, but for the two-wheeler, I am surely getting that with ease. For some reason, what happened there was the other way around. I went through the “H” hurdle easily in the Maruti 800, but touched my left leg’s fingers on the ground when taking “8” on that Bajaj M80 which looked like the first two-wheeler on Earth.

I came back from the spot to see that nobody was looking. There was something going on outside the ground and people were busy staring towards that direction. So, nobody knows that my legs touched the ground. But those who studied driving with me had seen.

My first two-wheeler - TVS Centra. Didn't help much in the 8 chase though :D

My first two-wheeler – the TVS Centra. Didn’t help much in the 8 chase though 😀

“It is okay. Nobody knows that your feet touched the ground. Just tell him that you completed it perfectly” one of them said.

“Yes, just don’t tell him that there was any contact with the ground” another one said.

“It can happen to anyone. There is nothing special in saying so” the next one said.

“But the fact remains that I did touch the ground” I said.

My instructor joined the conversation with a man from another driving school, as they came back from whatever was going on outside the ground.

“Listen to the other students. You were always supposed to get the license. I have seen you drive. There is nothing wrong with that. If this happened with the car, that would have been more of a concern. But I have never seen you make one wrong move with the two-wheeler. You can do this with so much ease even in your sleep. Didn’t you see that girl who had to hit the tree to stop the vehicle? That is the kind of driving that deserves no license. This is your first and it is because of the anxiety. It happens. Just tell that you completed the 8 without the feet touching the ground” he said.

“But what is the point of getting the driving license if I haven’t actually qualified?” I asked.

“It is all about being good enough to drive. Nobody is going to ask you to take an 8 on the centre of the road. Actually it is something that you should never do. If you say you touched the ground, you will have to come here on another day after giving the application again. Do you want to do that?” he asked.

“Yes, I would like to get the license when I qualify. If I can’t do this right, I don’t deserve to have a license. I shall come again” I said.

“Okay, go ahead then. It is your choice if you want to try again” he said.

So, I went to the officer and told him that my legs touched the ground once, and I didn’t do it as good as I had expected. He seemed to have a sense of disbelief in his eyes, and told me that it happens to everybody, asking me to make a try on the next date possible with confidence, as it was not a big deal. I came back two week later to claim my two-wheeler license, and it was a quick and steady process.

Part of my license - the two-wheeler authorization added later.

Part of my driving license – the two-wheeler authorization, as you see, was added later.

These days, when I drive, I have had a great amount of confidence with the two-wheelers, something which I never had with the four-wheelers. It is because I got it fair, while with the car, I just did what I was taught to do, as any surprise could have completely taken me off the plans. If I had got the driving license the very first time by lying, I wouldn’t have been this confident. When you choose to tell the truth instead of the lie, even as lying can make things easier and better, there is a satisfaction, and this is something that you can carry on with confidence.

I know that this world will find it difficult to follow the path of truth. I have my own relatives who keep telling the stories of their own or of their sons or daughters who had told lies to overcome a situation and made people fools. They say it as if it is some kind of achievement and these were signs of smartness. They were better than others because they could lie better. They deserved applause because they could handle other people in the wrong manner. Is this the kind of example that we set for the new generation? Isn’t this the main reason for the new generation losing their values?

There is a movie called Philips and the Monkeypen from last year in which there is a conversation between the father and the son – about truth not being bitter, and there is such a feeling of bitterness because lies are just too sweet. Yes, we do get the feeling that lies can get us achieve more. But I wonder what they can gain by achieving all the things in the world if they lose their soul? It will be a permanent mark on their conscience and one day, it can come back to haunt them. Every religion speaks against the lies, from the Ten Commandments to the Noble Eightfold Path.

This blog post was written in association with the Happy Hours campaign “Kitna chain hota hai na sachchai mein” from Kinley in association with Indiblogger. Do spare some time watch the video below, as this campaign from the company shows the significance of being honest and tells us to be dauntless and confident in speaking the truth, no matter how much we are afraid about the same. Remember the old saying “Honesty is the best policy”. Here is one girl showing the right example in Kinley 2014 TVC:

Let there be “Boond Boond Mein Sacchai” in our society, and not the dark lies of selfish motive 🙂 *The images used in this blog post are mine (photos taken by me on my camera), of course.

Annabelle’s Own Choice

It is important to be well groomed and nicely shaven, no matter what opportunity we are looking for. It doesn’t mean that it a must, but it is surely a bonus, something that we can’t ignore. There is the advantage of looking better and tidy, and it is impossible to deny it. There might be that important day in your life, which comes to you all of a sudden, and it is the best to shave and be ready for it. Lets take the case of the following story, which includes the famous dolls/toys/action figures (Annabelle, Chucky, Snow Job, Outback and Sentinel Prime).

Swayamvara, that age old practice of choosing one’s own husband from among a goup of suitors, was given to a girl of marriageable age, long ago in Ancient India. It might have disappeared from its own land, but it has managed to thrive in another world, just like Christianity and Buddhism manages to thrive far away from its birthplace, rather than at home. This world is not something that all of you might approve of, but its existence is a reality.

The tears that used to be Annabelle's blood - romantic stuff :P

The tears that used to be Annabelle’s blood – romantic stuff 😛

It was Annabelle’s day. The doll had prepared for the big day, as she prepared for the big function, and the most important day of her life. A lot of dolls were to arrive at her place, and most of them were from far away lands, beyond the oceans, and even from beyond the dark woods and the valley of death. A big feast was arranged for the day, and Annabelle had decided that she would surely choose someone this time.

The dolls had arrived much earlier than they were supposed to, and Annabelle slowly made her way in the middle. She stopped for a second, looked to the right, and immediately put the garland on the neck on one doll without spending much time looking at anybody else’s faces. It was so quick that almost everyone was stunned. The music started and the swayamvara was declared finished. The selected person was Chucky!

Chucky and Annabelle: A match made in the spirit world :D

Chucky and Annabelle: A match made in the spirit world 😀

“I knew she loved me. I knew she loved me” yelled a happy Chucky as he was throwing knives at statues.

“What the hell?” asked Outback, the G.I. Joe. “I am a real American Hero and a Joe. A soldier here, and she chooses the serial killer? What is wrong with her”?

“I am a Sergeant and even I am not chosen, damn it” said Snow Job, his friend and the other Joe who had arrived with lots of hope. “I understand that she is also possessed, but a serial killer is too low for anyone”.

“Even my robotic self was not chosen. I am evil too. Why was I not chosen? We could have taken over the world, my dear Annabelle. I had even made a plan with the Great Vampire Owl about the same. Three time winner of the best robotic beard and I still lose here” said a disappointed Sentinel Prime.

“I win, I win” screamed Chucky as he cut the head of two statues there.

"The Shining" Chucky - he knows what you are cooking :D

“The Shining” Chucky – he knows what you are cooking 😀

“Seriously, this is the best groom you could get?” asked Outback.

“At least, tell us why” said Snow Job.

“Why not? See how well-groomed Chucky is. He is clean shaven and see how well his face looks. He is so cute right after the shave” explained Annabelle.

“Somebody get me a transformer razor” screamed Sentinel Prime as he ran outside.

Moral of the story: Always choose to shave, worry not about the rest.

The Shaving Question

Some people might wonder why, but I remember that my first shave was when I was studying for plus one, and it was in the month of August or September, which I remember because it was just around the festival of Onam, during which the holidays had me going to the ancestral lands and the houses of relatives. One would wonder if it was another holiday, but no, I remember the pookkalam and those celebrities wishing Happy Onam on television during those days.

Why did I start shaving? I would say that it was mainly because I felt that I would look better that way. I haven’t been that much without confidence about most things, but it surely looked like a good idea at that time. It was also to be a confidence booster at that time, especially when there were things that I needed to overcome, and this was to make it better. This was something that I should do, and I made sure about it.

shave (1)

Until then, it was more like “let it grow” until I had chosen to say “let it go”, and there was the day on which I shaved, and then had the confidence to say no. I was forced to choosen the Commerce group for plus two, but that was not really working for me. I changed from Commerce-Mathematics to Commerce-Computer, and that didn’t do the trick. I had realized that the problem was with the school.

I had to get out of that place, but as usual my uncles didn’t want that and they were keeping on telling my father not to allow anything like that. On that day on which I had shaved, and that time I had the courage to say that I was not going to that place any more, not because it was a bad choice to make, but as it was a terrible choice for someone like me who never fit in there. I could tell him that I have another school in mind, even as classes had started there too.

shave (2)

Such mistakes kept happening in my life, but this decision that I made on that day on which I shaved was a big twist in my life. I could make more of such decisions, even as my timing has not always been correct and I have been prone to mistakes for a long time. There are many days that people remember, and I choose to bring this one day back to my mind – the day on which I shaved.

Still, even on these days, the shaved days prove to be better for me. There is nothing like having a groomed face. I have had my days without shaving and keeping my hair long, but those were the worst days of my life, and they are behind me. I would choose not to make the mistake of not shaving and not cutting hair again. That is not the best option, and I learnt it, but well.

shave ()

Moral of the Story: The answer to the shaving question is a big yes. You don’t need to leave your future in the hands of fate or destiny, as one can take it forward with confidence – what you need is a Gillette razor. #WillYouShave? I suggest you choose to do that, because the world moves forward too fast, and you need confidence, and there is also the requirement to make an impression.

Twilight of the Gods

As a part of the Norse Mythology, this twilight which is more known as Ragnarok includes a number of future events including the death of major gods including Thor, Loki and Odin – not really a happy chain of events for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There will be a great battle between good and evil, and in the end, a new world will arrive. This is not something that is uncommon among most of the religions of the world too, and it should work as if it is a well known thing.

A part of many Scandinavian works including Poetic Edda and Prose Edda, this twilight is something that is expected to come sooner or later. There are things that speeds up such events, bringing more need to such events. Scandinavian mythology might not be interesting for everyone, but these events, in its full strength, cannot be ignored as humans are striving towards going towards that end. After all, almost everyone loves Thor and Loki, thanks to what Marvel has brought to the cinema.

A future Ragnarok in a modern city of chaos and destruction.

A future Ragnarok in a modern city of chaos and destruction.

Yes, we are speeding up the wheel of time as if it is our private property, which means that our time will be limited. We have been infecting our world with matters which are not needed, and taking ourselves down from the better state we have achieved through centuries of knowledge and wisdom brought to us by great people. We are coming down from our respected status, and there are things that contribute to the same, most important of them being a certain amount of uncontrollable lust, which leads to pre-marital sex.

The new generation thinks that it is just too cool, and it has lead to Bollywood also supporting the same. Well, Bollywood has been acting out of its mind for years now, looking only to find ways to make money. They always keep finding new lows to achieve in film making. The question remains about what the new generation attitude achieves. There is no such thing as being “cool”, and it is just part of the many freaky things that the new generation has come up with. We can be pretty sure that they will come up with more, but pre-marital sex surely is not even worthy enough to be categorized into the “cool” category.

Rangarok: you can't stop it, but may be the event can be delayed.

Rangarok: you can’t stop it, but may be the event can be delayed.

The end of the world is just a situation which is waiting to arrive in more than one form. It can be initiated in many ways, and one of them is our loss of morality, and the most saddening thing is that India, with its rich and respectable culture and traditions is losing it. When we think that it is the same thing that has lead to the Western civilization losing its power, I would say that it is an alarming situation, as India has stayed there in between all this development, holding on to its traditions and values. It was something that gained respect, even as some people won’t accept it.

May be the events like Kiss of Love happens to be one step towards this Ragnarok, as something emotional is brought to the camera like porn. Even as there are some good intentions behind it, one has to feel that the end results of that movement is not going to be positive. Can’t they go and kiss the orphan children and the parents abandoned by their sons and daughters? Wouldn’t that be a better Kiss of Love? What we need to hold on to, is our traditions more than anything else. No, I am not supporting any political wing in this case, but it is what can help us thrive; otherwise there is not much difference between humans and animals, as people keep asking for more and more freedom everyday to go outside morality.

Dauntless in Love and Care

I have had very few vacation trips as a kid compared to some of my friends who have traveled a lot. But as time passed, I understood the significance of having a memorable vacation journey which would refresh the mind of any normal person. Among the trips I had during childhood, there were Kolkata, Chennai, Goa, Bangalore and Mangalore which I remember. But I am ready to make sure that my child would have more vacations, and all of them shall be better than what I have had in my entire life. *I am sharing two photos of childhood here, the first one taken at Kolkata and the second one at home with my cousin brother.

I was going through an initiative from Club Mahindra at http://membership.clubmahindra.com/TeddyTravelogues/index.html about travelogues written by children. It reminded me of thinking about myself and how I would go on holidays with my child. The first thing I want to ensure is that I remain dauntless, so that my child would know that I will always be there for him, whenever he feels a certain amount of fear about anything. There is this feeling of insecurity that children feel while going on journeys, and I remember having felt the same on so many occasions. This insecurity is like a big mole on a face, as it affects the beauty of the vacation, and the significance of the journey itself is reduced.

From one of my first vacations ever, to Kolkata - a photo found and scanned.

From one of my first vacations ever, at Kolkata – a photo discovered in the album and scanned.

The fear that children feel outside their home in quite natural, and the current world, we have to be very careful – these are not the best times for the children to grow up either. So, I would make sure that I shall be the friend to him and be the friend that I rarely had during my own childhood. I have to correct the mistakes from my earlier generation, and it is my duty to make sure that he enjoys, and it is a privilege to make sure that I also enjoy the little things that he does.

Even as I strive to make things happen here, another nice thing I would like to add is another person of his own age to give him company. I would choose a family friend who has kids of the same age to accompany us on the journey so that they can nicely contribute to the fun. Otherwise, I will find a relative with a child of the same age. I have been aware of the disadvantages of being a lone child, and I shall never let that happen to my kid, and it is a promise that I have to make to myself.

An old photo with my cousin brother. Never be the lonely child.

An old photo with my cousin brother. Never be the lonely child in a busy universe of chaos.

Well, what is a vacation when the child is not happy? My mother always used to tell me to be happy, or it affects her and destroys the whole purpose of the vacation as it was always about me. She always wanted me to order what I wanted in a restaurant and would have the same thing. This is what I would do, especially when we all have the same thing for food, it is the first step to letting him make decisions during a vacation – his ideas need to be valued. I have had almost no say in even my early education, and I know the pain.

I would let my child explore the world with curiosity, but I will always keep an eye on him, making sure that his vacation universe goes perfectly, and looking at things in the way in which he sees things – it is a perspective that I would enjoy. It will be the best case of happiness for me to see my child enjoying a vacation which I had arranged. It makes my world special. When he loves the journey, my soul takes a leap forward, and it is what we should strive for when choosing a vacation. Let us remember the fact that every step that we make will also teach him something – so lets plan it well to make it a learning experience as well as an entertaining one.

This entry is my submission for the latest Happy Hours Campaign from Indiblogger in association with Club Mahindra’s Teddy Travelogues. I don’t think that Club Mahindra Holidays, a part of the Mahindra Group needs any introduction for any of us Indians. They are among the most commonly mentioned names in their field. Not the Centre of the World

Some people think that they are the centre of the world, and everything should revolve around them. I don’t mind if they are made the sun and all the other lesser people who are the planets had actually wandered around, heating the tea on the sun’s head and drinking the supernova brand of the drink. I have had the privilege and honour of having a lot of such people around me, but there are only a few things which have surprised me more these days. *The images used in this blog post are from the wikipedia page of the solar system.

I don’t usually go to any forums, and I have kept that policy going for years. I am not that much of a talker, and interaction has never been my special ability. But one day, I became curious, and thought that I had to see what the fellow bloggers would be talking about, and then I realized that the blogger world doesn’t have that much of the radiance that I thought it had. Yes, I had believed that almost all the bloggers wrote for the same reason – to bring to light your ideas, memories and feelings (not considering previews, reviews and such stuff), but it turns out that it is not that much there.

I am so big, everyone else is so small; how can I not win a contest?

I am so big and awesome; how can I not win a contest? Some people choose to wonder.

Yes, it was the only reason why I started all of my blogs. My first two blogs were in blogspot which I used for my personal thoughts as well as about the world. I also had two other blogs which had fictional stories which I connected to my life as well as the movies I watched. Then I settled with four blogs at wordpress which I still have. I started the first one for my wander quests and the next one for my movie love. The third one was futuristic fiction in which characters reflected my philosophy, and this last one is about random thoughts.

Coming back to my point, don’t we all write to satisfy our need to write? I thought that it was why people started blogs. I agree that there are people who write to get paid, but isn’t the love for writing the most important thing? Then you ask about writing for contests. Well, we shouldn’t sacrifice our ideas for that. The participation should be because we have another challenging topic to write on, and not just for material benefits. When I am given a topic, I am happy that it is given to me. Even at the college, when I got an assignment, I was extremely happy.

Yes, we should expect the prize, whatever it is. But we can’t always expect to win something. You win something at times, and there are occasions when you win nothing after trying too hard. It is the way of life. Sometimes, you might end up winning nothing for years. But it shouldn’t mean anything. Participation is the most important thing and the one thing for which we should strive for, and the hope for prize should only inspire us – shouldn’t make us desperate, unless you are hosting the contest by yourself.

Respect the right of others to win and also the right of the sponsor.

Respect the rights of others, my dear pseudo-fire-starters – it is all part of the chain of events.

If there is a contest sponsored by a certain firm, it is your option to participate in it or not to. You might or might not win the prize. You should write because you got another topic brought before you and the prize is just something of a special motivation. Nobody owes you anything, and you don’t have the bloody right to come out of it with a prize, as if there is something like the certainty of death. I think that those who make ridiculous comments for not getting rewarded is no real blogger. Some people do talk about it in a respectable manner whether it is personal or objective – I respect that, but there are others. Your best reward should be your mental satisfaction and then the likes and those positive comments.

Yes, appreciation is a must. But it is not something that is gained by winning contests. It is something that is won in the long run by people reading your work and admiring it, getting mention for the huge amount of effort you have been putting into it for years. A contest will have its winners and it is their right to choose, and if it is a contest with a first come first serve basis an you were not fast enough, you have no right to blame anyone. Yes, one can protest, but in a dignified manner. We are not little kids looking to win prizes and cry otherwise. Even in some of the most difficult computer games, you win experience by just trying.

I have lost more contests than I have won, and I have often put my contest entries at the wrong place. But I haven’t complained and neither have I mentioned it somewhere. I should have contacted the support team of the website and asked them to change my entries to the right place. But no, I didn’t do that because I have self-respect and I understand that it is my mistake for which I shouldn’t bother the site’s team; and I can win something someday if I try hard – and I don’t consider my attempts a waste. I accept rejection because it is a fact of life.

Lets respect the fact that there are contests. There could have been life without it. I shall write on a contest as long as the topic has even a small thing of my interest. There is effort taken to publish a post, and I love to take that effort, because I am a blogger and this is what I do. There is no waste here and I choose not to hide my thoughts for a prize. I am a blogger because I write unconditionally. Even when the need for appreciation keeps honking at me, it is my pledge and my privilege to keep writing even with none. It is something that I have promised myself, with the certainty of a vampire drinking blood and a zombie eating brains.

As Indi(an) bloggers, We Blog, Therefore We Are – right? I choose not to challenge my existence. I also choose not to interfere with your choice. Keep blaming your stage, my dear performers; if you need to – but I don’t consider it a righteous move.

There are not many things stronger than fear. Some people will say that there is faith, others will believe in hope, but the strength of fear is, at most of the times bigger than any of these other things. People do things or hesitate to do things just because of fear, and it is not something new – it is a fact that we can see through centuries; history proves the same during its passage through ages. There is the need to conquer this fear if we have to progress in life. Don’t we all need to #RiseAboveFear?

I have had my fears, and even as I have never really made a list about the same, I am certain that one of the bigger fears were my fear of the heights. Yes, I have rarely dared to go to the heights and take a look below. Even when I did, I have mostly been holding on to something and chanting prayers. But that had to change with a journey, and it was that day on which we decided to go to Malayattoor.

The beautiful altar serves as a blessing to our journey.

The beautiful altar serves as a blessing as well as a confidence booster to the journey.

For those who don’t know about this place, it is a pilgrimage centre about fifty kilometres from Cochin, with a church located at the top of the hill, where Saint Thomas the Apostle is supposed to have prayed there. It is believed that, after arriving at Kodungalloor in AD 52, he stopped at Malayattoor on the way to Mylapore. This is one of the most visited Christian pilgrimage centres in Kerala and should be the top holy destination in the whole of India which is not dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

So, when my friend told me that this time he is visiting the place alone as his father was not well and won’t be able to climb the hill, I decided to give him company. This was to be my first successful climbing of a hill, as I have been afraid until then. I have tried to go up this hill, but never even reached near even quarter of the distance, as I got worried and came back every time – a total of three times until then.

The rocks are nothing just the path to our final destination

The rocks are nothing but just the path to our final destination at the top of the hill.

It was easier for him, as he has already been to the top many times. I was still worried about the slippery rocks which stood on the way, and my inability to maintain balance due to fear was evident. He was faster and had to stop regularly to wait for me. The sights of older people and devotees climbing while holding different types of big crosses on their shoulders were more of the inspiration for me.

The church at top of the hill awaits us reaching there.

The church at the top of the hill awaits us to reach there, surrounded by nature.

I wondered why I was thinking about myself as so weak, and was being too afraid. The fact that it was a pilgrimage strengthened me. I felt that this was the moment to get rid of the fear, and something like this will only strengthen me for future. If I can’t climb to the top now, my fear was never going to end, and I would never have any confidence about myself.

The old altar also awaits us believers on the top of the hill.

The old altar with its own antiquity also awaits us believers on the top of the hill.

So, I stopped at the beginning stages of the journey and had a Mountain Dew, one of my favourite soft drinks. It has been what I always preferred to have, along with Mirinda and 7Up. So I continued that journey upwards, and I decided to make it as fast as possible. There were so many people around, and as people of all ages were doing the same thing with confidence, it helped me a lot in gaining the confidence.

One of the views before reaching the top - fair enough to inspire.

One of the views before reaching the top – quite strong enough to inspire anybody.

It took me much less time for me to reach the top as I decided not to stop at anything, not for my fear of looking down and neither for my doubts about reaching the top, and I have never been happier when I was at the top. I considered it my greatest achievement against the fear, and I was not afraid anymore. We wandered around there, prayed and had another bottle of Mountain Dew along with clicking a few photos.

And then I was at the top; I couldn't be any happier.

And then I was at the top; tired and of lesser strength, but I couldn’t be any happier.

After giving Saint Thomas his due and spending our time in prayers, we slowly came down, and I had no fear in coming down, as I had conquered what I thought I couldn’t. I was sure that this was only the beginning of my big journeys to the heights. It was the end of a journey and the beginning of the confidence which had me not that worried about the heights any more. On the way back, we stopped at the Indian Coffee House at Kalady and had tea to plan another journey, after this victory.

And then it was the time to take a look towards the beauty of nature.

And then it was the time to take a look at the beauty of nature, along with having some rest.

Safety is a Priority

On the road safety should be a priority. The number of road accidents don’t seem to come down by much, and neither does the deaths by the same. If you open the newspaper early morning, this is what you get first. Yes, there are news about other kinds of deaths, murders, robbery and everything else, but this is more of a case that you can avoid as long as everyone can find safety as a priority, and not some other random things like reaching a place early or driving fast and in a stylish manner with almost no reason. *Except for the first photo on the road which was taken on my Sony Cybershot DSC W310, the rest are from Nissan Safety Driving Forum (NSDF) website.

1. Let there be no pothole: Even as this is completely in the hands of the government, it is up-to us motorists to raise our voice for getting the roads repaired. Yes, it is injurious to the suspension of the vehicles, but the bigger problem is when people suddenly breaks or turns the vehicles causing accidents – there are even cases of people falling into some of the deeper ones and losing control of the two-wheelers, sometimes even causing deaths. There is more than one kind of terror that these potholes can come up with, and repairing the roads shouldn’t take long. There are too many bad roads around, and each pothole is a possible death-bringer, especially during the rainy season. We have such problems even on the state and national highways – not fair at all.

2. Know no traffic signal breaks: We see this too often, and the cars which do this often are the big ones, and the same is the case of those huge trucks or buses and often the auto rickshaws. Sometimes, it won’t be that easy following the signals, as they could work in a strange manner, and there might be occasions when they just stop working or when the police tries to help, it doesn’t work well. But our duty is to obey the signal, and at the same time look for the movement from other vehicles. Yes, a few adjustment would be needed here as there is a difference in the concept of “yellow” for many people. So always look for any vehicle passing through before obeying the traffic lights. Some of those who breaks the traffic signals even have number plates which are hard to read – how can someone allow such a thing?

3. Realize your speed limit: Even if someone has bought a costly car with a top speed beyond comprehension, he should also be paying the fine for breaking the speed limit, may be a bigger fine for the bigger cars – small fines rarely make an impact due to having a big purse. What we should do on these occasions is to try not to race with the maniacs who can’t decrease their speed. Let’s keep within the speed limits because a rule is a rule, and it is a fair thing to do. Along with the same, use helmets and seat belts – yes, we may be driving slow and causing no trouble to others, but there will always be those maniacs who drive fast and without any responsibility. Let’s save ourselves and not fall into the death-trap for the fault of someone else. After all, it seems like a group of drivers who don’t care at all, and it is up-to us to bring a change here. Let’s also hope for more “hidden” cameras to catch these people.

4. Respect the rest of your kind: There is nothing like giving chance for the rest of the humanity, including the motorist and the pedestrian a chance to pass. We are not the only busy people out on the streets, an everyone needs a fair chance. It might not be easy to let someone pass through and take a turn when some random stranger is honking from the back, but lets give that person a chance. To add to it, the road doesn’t belong to anyone in particular, and so keep left and stay off the side of the path. It is only by respect towards the rest of the people on the road that once can claim to be a good driver – not by driving fast, scaring others or by showing circus on the bike. It is not about having a costly vehicle and making some ridiculous sound either – give respect and take respect, as for a good number of people, vehicles are for transportation and not to show off.

5. Discover the indicator: Some people still don’t know where this button is. It comes under the steering, for some cars on the right and for the other, on the left. It also seems to take too much strength to do the same, that a lot of people just turns without prior warning, especially the auto rickshaws, buses and trucks. I have often wondered where their indicators are? Do they usually come out of the showroom without that facility? Everybody needs an indicator, and let’s hope that someone will tell these people about the same. Meanwhile, lets make sure that each and everyone of use indicators whenever there is a need, and after taking a turn, we need to be sure that it is turned off – we don’t want to create another nuisance on the road by having a tendency to turn in a direction almost every second.

6. Find a way to dim the lights: This is a necessity, especially as the road is no private property. There is roughly around fifty percent of the night drivers who dim their lights. It is all about what they can see, and the rest needs to adjust. They don’t realize that the other person also has the need to see the road. Even when we brighten and dim our lights, some people don’t seem to care. I would guess that it is because night driving is not taught in driving schools. Those who wish to get a licence are taught only how to take the “H” in the case of four-wheelers and “8” for two-wheelers. Even the driving time on the roads happen during the daytime and nobody knows that what to do with the bright and dim feature. The system of giving driving licence surely needs a change.

7. The things that are never to do: The first thing to follow is never to drink and drive. Any doubt about the same is just plain ridiculous. There are so many of such incidents that we know from the newspapers. The second thing is not to use the mobile phones while driving. I don’t know why too many people do this in broad daylight when other people are watching. It is clear that doing so is not safe. But it seems that some people value that more than human lives. When there is a phone ringing, stop the vehicle and talk or call back later. There is the need for bigger fines for these two categories. Another thing – never keep changing lanes; it could be solved by developing a certain amount of common sense, I guess. But it is becoming more and more rare these days – not common. Let’s try to do what is in our power and hope for better results.

This blog post is written in relation to Nissan Safety Driving Forum’s nationwide safety campaign with the concept of “Safety begins with me”. It says that saftety and etiquette are not to be taken lightly as it is the responsibility of each and every driver and not a selected few. There is a duty that we have to our fellow motorists as well as the pedestrians who consists more of the common man. For more details, please check https://www.nissan.in/innovation/NSDF.html and make sure you drive safe.

The Nissan Motor’s Nissan Safety Driving Forum (NSDF) is part of its safety driving promotion activities, having the beginning in 2012. Starting with three main Indian cities – Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai – it has gone on to touch other cities. This year, NSDF has new cities to go – Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Vadodara, Nagpur, Chennai, Mangalore and Cochin with a reach to about two lakh citizens. NSDF has also seen an impressive 126% growth in the sensitisation of wearing seatbelts. It also conducts simulated car crash to understand safety. Nissan’s NSDF continues to try to build awareness of safe driving in India as it encourages drivers and passengers to wear seatbelts through interactive programmes. Nissan’s aim is to decrease fatalities and injuries caused by traffic accidents, and it considers the same a commitment to the customers in India.

The Legend of Colossus

The largest aircraft in the history of commercial aircraft, #LufthansaA380 is flying to Delhi! There will be daily flights on the Frankfurt-Delhi route, and our capital becomes the first city to welcome the giant, and lets see how many more tourists will arrive to see Taj Mahal, Akshardham Temple and the rest of the attractions aboard on this wonderful flight. Here is celebrating this with a contest from Lufthansa and Indiblogger. Do check the airlines’ India website for more details: http://a380.lufthansa.com/TAKEPART/#/DE/EN/home.

Cheers to #LufthansaA380 on this occasion, and all the best.

The bigger, the better. I don’t think that there will be a second opinion about it. Take the popularity of Kraken and Leviathan in the legends, or think about the Giant Robot. The better vampire was always Count Dracula with the huge castle. We want bigger cars, bigger houses, and even bigger world to accomodate us. It is what we have been striving for, and there has been a certain amount of infatuation with the bigger things, or making our lives bigger. Into that situations, another giant, Lufthansa A380 enters.

This airplane is a colossus, no matter what your idea about a big plane is, as this is one step ahead of the same. We are a nation with a huge population, but with lesser airports and flights – Kerala is attempting to take another step forward, building two more airports in addition to the already existing three international airports at the three different areas of the state. But in totality, India is in need of more airports, and this scarcity is up-to an extent solved by a colossal airplane; the answer is right here in the new Lufthansa A380 which inspires people to travel on flights.

luf

The smaller aircrafts with lesser number of people will only lead to more complicated air traffic and should cost more aviation fuel, finally leading to more pollution. I am taking the bus versus car comparison on this one, and about why the public transport is better than private cars. Having one huge aircraft which takes the maximum number of people will only do good. Let’s hope that it will bring the air ticket prices down too. More air and rail transport means less congestion on roads too. Well, the plane itself is a big, amazing structure, and for the same, people will need to travel through Lufthansa.

It is also good to see that an airline industry with such a global reach is trying to make their market better in India. India can use such interest from the global giants in aviation. It is something which will catch the interest of the usual travelers to undertake more journeys on this new huge aircraft which will surely be nicer and more comfortable to travel in, as the turbulence should me much lesser due to weight and size of the big thing. As this is a bigger plane, there is the certainty of better leg space, and more storage space should also be guaranteed.

lu

One thing I am sure about is that I would love to travel in a Lufthansa. So far, I have only travelled in Kingfisher Airlines, Emirates, SpiceJet, Air India, Jet Airways and Indian Airlines, coming very close to travel in AirAsia, and at the same time hoping to travel in a possible Air Kerala which has been proposed. At the same time, Lufthansa has been nicely promoting their airlines, and it is impossible for someone to not travel in one of their flights. I hope that the opportunity for the same shall come someday.

The number of Indians outside the nation has been steadily increasing, and so is our population. In this case, may Lufthansa be a big boon for India, especially its giant aircraft. There is ever increasing globalization, and the world will only get closer to each other as time progresses. I once again wish Lufthansa best of luck in making nations and people closer to each other. Best wishes to the aviation industry as a whole too. Cheers to #LufthansaA380 and Indiblogger. *The images used here are  taken from Indiblogger’s #LufthansaA380 contest page and cropped, and therefore belongs to Lufthansa.

The College Days at UCC

This post is my entry for ‘My College Diary’ contest held by travel blog My Yatra Diary in collaboration with Collegedunia.com

There are not many memories that give me a better feeling than my days at Union Christian College, Aluva – where I attended for my MA English. I have been to other educational institutions for a longer period of time, but there was nothing like being in this college which had the most interesting days of my life. It was like each and every day was special, and had something new for me. I have always been a lazy person who hesitated to go for the classes, but everything changed and I came out of there as a different person.

I was always there to witness the first rays of the sun.

I was always there to witness the beautiful rays of the sun, very early.

There is something about learning English Literature in one of the oldest and the most reputed colleges in Kerala. With a green campus full of trees and having a number of old buildings of antique value which takes us to world beyond the busy traffic right outside the gate, being at UC College is a privilege that I never thought I would have, and for the same, I would like to thank God as I could get the admission by merit itself without any trouble, and that is one miracle that stays on my list forever.

UCC on a rainy day while reading romantic poetry!

UCC on a rainy day while reading romantic poetry! Nostalgia strikes!

We had our classes right on the block on the back side of the oldest building around, surrounded by trees and having a shortcut to the canteen. The first thing we notice there being the lines from Shelley’s Ode to the West Wind, “If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?”, I entered the classroom with doubts about what was next in my life. I was quite late for post-graduation, as I had changed my graduation to Literature after having my way with Computer Application.

Now you know where I parked my car :D

Now you know where I parked my car 😀 Loved parking it – was more like hiding it 😉

1. The Strangers’ Paradise: I entered this place, which was the paradise of strangers, a world which had students who had taken graduation from different colleges. There were eighteen including two of us boys, a number which decreased to thirteen by the final year. Most of them didn’t know each other, and what made me feel better was that nobody knew me at all. Being a stranger among strangers was fair, the right point to make an introduction. I could make the right impression, but still I ended up being just me, and thinking about it, that was the best thing that I did there – being myself.

That visual from our first year classroom and nearby.

That visual from our first year classroom and nearby; almost made me jump at times.

2. The Strength of Tea: The first thing I asked after getting there was about the canteen. Yes, the toilet and the library are significant, but there was the need for tea. Ever since finding the place, I was a regular visitor there, even meeting the teachers further there. It is the place which tells us that our teachers are awesome, over a cup of tea. We know our friends better at the canteen with the tea, and meet a lot more people there. We might still not know them directly, but it is a certainty that if we see them somewhere outside the college or on Facebook, we know who they are. I used to jump out of the classroom for the same reason, having a cup of tea between the hours.

Those steps under the chapel: a usual place.

Those steps under the chapel: a usual place, no matter what the time.

3. The Literary Power: The power of the library was clear right from the beginning, and I was clear about it before joining the college. We were blessed with a very old library which had a very good collection of literary works, but nothing new though. I used to make some frequent visits to library in the beginning, a habit which I somewhat abandoned as I could get the e-books in an easier way. But then, there was the idea of helping others to get the book – with canteen so close to the library, how could I not choose to go to the library? Cutlet and tea with books – a fair choice.

Those library cards on the final day of college.

Those library cards on the final day of college – one last look as I left.

4. Seminars of the World: A habit which soon developed was to go for literature based seminars at different colleges. Even as there were some of us going in the beginning, soon there was the practice of going together or staying at home so that there would be no class. But soon, some of the studious girls would develop the practice of going to the college to listen to the lectures based on syllabus, and I had to go alone or in smaller groups. But we got the attendance, and the classes rarely mattered to me as I had enough material to go through. The journeys on a Chevrolet Beat also started with these, making my car a regular visitor to the college.

A little more of the natural beauty to make you miss the place more.

A little more of the natural beauty to make you miss the place more.

5. Change of Perspective: The first few months had us taking down lecture notes as well as those which are provided to us. Then the situation changes to just writing down some random things, pretending to write and finally ends up not writing anything at all. Yes, there are the studious girls who got to write them, but we are people of the last bench. We know that it is not by what is taught in the classes that we are redeemed when the examinations arrive. We know that we have to read, and not accepting whatever is taught in a class; that is about having one’s own perspective.

Another beautiful, rainy day on the campus inspiring poetry.

Another beautiful, rainy day on the campus inspiring poetry.

6. The Quiz Surprise: Even as the things were going okay, nothing really made an impact like this surprise. There was the inter-college quiz competition for which I was told to go, just because there was the shortage of willing people; that was a nice journey, with two teams of us participating in the same, and myself and my partner winning the second prize. That was quite a turning point, with myself going to more of the competitions, with different partners – that was the beginning of the next phase which came only in the final year. I admired the department for the support here, and those who accompanied me for the competitions.

A screenshot from the college website at that time.

7. Political Extravaganza: Politics was banned for the first year I joined there as there were some bad incidents. But it came back with full power in the next year, with the Communist students wing SFI gaining most of the seats and the other Communist wing AISF coming so close. Congress’ KSU came right down and BJP’s ABVP managed one seat. It was not the result that caught my attention though, because it was the campaigning which has the beauty about it. There were thos nice artworks to support the parties as well as some cultural stuff. Who can forget those strikes which gave us more freedom?

A photo from the day before the election.

8. Before Final Destination: Then came the season of trouble; the time for the final exams followed by the time dedicated for the thesis. There were lot of turbulence out there, especially concerning the studious girls, worried about the marks as well as how their thesis will look for others; but the rest of us were pretty sure that they will score high as usual and were just making a scene to bother us – that ended well. Among this maddening crowd, the thesis progressed fine,, and I am glad to say that I enjoyed working on my topic, and the support from the English Department was splendid.

Those final days of thesis; had to be the techie again.

Those final days of thesis; had to be the techie again and be the helping hand.

If I have the opportunity to go through all these, I would be glad to – it is that kind of a feeling that this college has left me with. It is not that I have never thought about it, and taking another post graduation in History would have been a perfect choice. But considering the fact that the syllabus has changed and so has the new generation, I would just end up being an outdated man, not old enough and yet not working well with the younger generation. So, I shall happily hold on to these memories which remain special for me.

A few things the elections brought for the college.
