We are all Special

We are all different individuals with a large variety of tastes. If we look closer, the similarities become a lot lesser in number and this lack of similarities will assure each one of us that we have our own personalities. There are lots of things that contribute to this individuality, but in my case, I am going to come up with some weird reasons. Different might be nice, but weird is better. It is also special! What is the fun in everyone being the same kind of person?

The first point here would be that I don’t comb my hair. Well, I can’t remember when was the last time I did that. Nowadays, I don’t even have hair style. All the style depends on how my hair manages to be. I have cared very less about how I look like; it has been one my least concerns. If you see me right out of the bed, my looks will be the exact same as how you see me on the road. The looks should be one thing on which people are never to be judged, and I hope I won’t be. Seventy rupees in every one and half months and the hair is done.

Then there is the point about tea. Most of you should already know it and this blog is also based on the same as you might have noticed the presence of tea already. My special skills include drinking a lot of tea; or rather it is my special need – I drink a lot of tea each and every day. It makes sure that I will write again and without tea, my life is empty. There might be other things among food and drinks, but nothing for me like a cup of tea. Even now, I had to find my tea for inspiration.

This is the kind of path which you follow. Also note my car for no reason :P

This is where I would park my car. There is tea all around, and so inspiration.

I have always loved the celebrities who were not crowd favourites. Even as a child, I tried to bring my own interests to light. Whether it was cricket, football or WWE, I used to come up with my own favourites who were not the biggest names at that time. I wanted my choices to be different and the kind of people whom everyone else loved. I guess that there was a certain amount of selfishness there as I also wanted to love these people without sharing with a huge crowd.

I try my best not to smile while taking a photo, or at times come up with half a smile. I have felt that there is no point in smiling in front of the camera when there is not much happiness in life and people hate other so much. As true happiness is rarely there and so difficult to find, I consider my smile to be fake and therefore will make an attempt to hide it whenever possible. True happiness is more of a fairy tale than true love, and I am not going to bring that one to light. If smiles are missing, I hope others smile for me too.

One thing different in my belief system is that I believe that we are all striving for one aim, which is death. I have good set of positive beliefs about death which I keep close to my heart. I used to have a few points printed about the same, but then decided not to keep that piece of paper because someone will think that I am suicidal. It is not like I am suicidal, but I wait for the moment of my end, and I started this waiting quite some time ago. Only death can bring the much needed equality.

So, let the dark clouds leave and get to the destination I am talking about.

So, let the dark clouds arrive and remind us about that dark end to our lives.

I am yet to really understand why I write blogs. I keep writing as if it is something which my life depends on. There has been no day without at least one blog post from last December onward. Sometimes I think that I know the reason, but most of the time, I feel that there was no real understanding about the same. Usually, people have an aim, they have ambitions and they know where they are going with their blogs. But with all my weirdness, I know nothing about it. Maybe I am a blog post robot who managed to gather a human soul.

The Storm Unleashed

“Burn it! Burn it! Let no trace of it remain! Total annihilation!” there was a voice from my room, and I returned to check what was going on in there.

There, someone was jumping on the novels, Twilight and New Moon. It was Storm, the mutant from team X-Men. I remember calling for an emergency teleportation from the world of the comics to the human universe. The spirit board for mutants has been proven to be very effective. I actually wanted to call Rogue, but as I didn’t want to end up dead, I had decided to call for Storm, with Wolverine gone somewhere to find another origin story about him. Hugh Jackman was also not going to be happy in that case.

“Why is this not destroyed yet? The deal between vampires and mutants clearly say that all copies of Twilight and its sequels must be destroyed to bring peace between the two species. Wait! This world doesn’t count as mutant property, right?” she asked.

“Absolutely not” I told her. “You have been summoned here as part of the spirit board contact program which involves teleportation. You had given your name for teleportation through this temporarily created medium”.

“Yes, I did. I wanted to wander around this world which is quite popular in our dimension. I heard that you people got unity in diversity here. There, we are battling against each other. That Magneto is always causing trouble. Maybe you can take him through the portal and keep him here forever. I have also heard about the natural beauty here. We have destroyed most of ours by wars”.

“The exploitation of nature happens here too. It is a common thing. No, we can’t take Magneto unless you take a few of our politicians. The deal won’t make any difference though as the trouble still remains with no change. Unity in diversity still mostly exists” I replied.

“I need to go out and see your world. It is going to be a new experience” she said while walking out.

“Is that a cloud over your head? You are not supposed to cause rain inside the house” I reminded her.

“Oh! I am just very excited to see this new world. No problem, I will make it rain outside with thunder and lightning” she said.

“What? No! We are going out. Why do you want to bring rain now?” I asked.

“Okay, I can bring a twister. Would you like to have that instead? It is a sweet little thing”.

“I should have called for Mystique. What is wrong with you? There is no need for any destruction. The evil mutants are in your world” I assured her.

“Then, I can bring some sweet snow where we can start our journey by building a snowman here”.

“No! It is not supposed to snow here. The climate here is not like that. We only get simple rain here, but even that is not needed now because we are going outside”.

“I thought you needed some climate change when I was called. This is quite boring. I bring my climate everywhere and I keep changing them. This is no fun at all” she said in a disappointing tone.

“Wait a minute. Are those dark clouds on the sky yours?” I asked.

“Yes, they arrive when I am very angry or depressed. Heavy showers and tornado follows” she added.

“Do one favour for me. Go back through the portal”.

“But according to the terms and conditions of the portal which is made clear in the mutant world, I have to stay here for…”.

“Forget everything, just go!” I told her.

“Okay. Call me again when you really need a climate change. Until then, I will be in the television and the comics. Also make sure that you never call Jean Grey” she said while jumping back into the portal.

The portal closed and the spirit board reverted to its closed form. The dark clouds were still there, beginning the darkness from morning itself. The rain was strong all day and also throughout that night. Thunder and lightning were even stronger, but thankfully, the tornado never came. I guess that there was never really a chance to create one as she left too soon. I can actually look for a few lost characters inside the X-Men animated series and those old comics. May be next time, I shouldn’t look within X-Men at all.

The Living Dream

Yesterday was an interesting Friday. I was writing something about my favourite domes related to the church buildings in Kerala when I felt that someone was moving around in the room. I didn’t check until I had finished writing, and then there was somebody standing with my cup of tea. Well, it was not someone whom I had met in person before.

“I know that you always wanted to meet me. It has been your nightmare” the shadowy figure said.

“Who are you? What are you doing in this room, drinking my tea?” I asked.

“You don’t recognize me? This is so unfair. You get to live through your nightmare and it still feels like you never wanted it”.

“Why do you keep talking about living the nightmare? Who are you?” I asked.

“You have been writing about me on your blog and all of your characters have expressed extreme desire to meet me. Yet you don’t recognize me. It is a shame. I have traveled so long, and you just make me guilty of having left my beautiful dark home” the figure said as it looked outside through the window.

“Uncle Dracula? No, he has been omnipresent. There is nobody from the vampire team. It is you. It is you whom each and every one of my characters wanted to see. You are Lady Death” I finally figured something out.

It is to the insides of Earth that we have to return, for we are dust.

Believe in Lady Death, because she knows how to make you believe.

“There you are. You had to figure that out some time. After all, I have been watching you, along with your guardian angels” she said in a relieved tone.

“But shouldn’t that be a dream, and not a nightmare then? Unless you are here to take my soul to the other world. I have been living a useless life on Earth according to a few people. I hope that you haven’t come to please them” I had my doubts.

“No, I have just come here for a friendly chat. It is boring there at the other dimension. There is so much negativity around. Yes, people there are even more negative than you are. Well, they are dead and I am just throwing people into boiling oil. So, you can’t really blame them for being negative”.

“Why do you boil them in oil? Do you eat them?” I asked a doubt which I had for a very long time.

“No! It is just the most common method of eternal torment. A lot of living humans are also given clues about it in their nightmares. I like it more than the others. It is my personal favourite. I leave the others to the minions and my evil twin sister” she added with pride.

“I have heard that there are contributions from insects, wild animals and unknown demonic creatures”.

“Yes, they also ask for a chance to contribute. You know that we have a tough job to do. It just can’t be done by our small team. So we outsource the punishments of the other world to some of the lesser known demons who work for luxurious one night stay inside the hell fire. They love the hell-fire like you people love an air-conditioned room” she said.

“I heard that the Ninth Circle is the worst. It hasn’t changed, right?” I asked her.

“Yes, my evil twin sister is in charge there. Yes, she proves that she is my evil twin sister with her work there. I like calling her that. It makes me feel so much filled with goodness”.

“I hope she stays there then. What I don’t understand is that why you are here when you can do many other things to get rid of your boredom”.

“Well, I know that it was your nightmare to see me. You know my special skills” she said.

“No, it was my dream, not a nightmare. It is not even close to being a nightmare”.

“In our world, we call nightmares as dreams and vice versa. You can simply say that this is ‘A Writer’s Wildest Dream Come True’ for a change” she said.

The beauty of fire on the sky can't be ignored by any camera.

Lady Death is a figure which arrives to compliment the sunset of your lives.

“I understand. You don’t really have the dreams which are not nightmares, do you? So, will you wait for a few minutes so that we can go for a movie together at a multiplex and also have some expensive tea from a mall? Did you watch Mission: Impossible 5: Rogue Nation? Or Premam which is the kind of movie which you won’t get there? I am ready to watch these movies again – what do you say? Yes or no?” I asked while looking for the movie shows at BookMyShow.

I found the shows of the two movies with the best timings, locations and rates. But when I turned around, she was not there to be found. The empty tea-cup was the only thing left. But I was already expecting her to leave at any moment because the world of the dead is a very busy place; a lot busier than the land of the undead. It is actually a pleasure that she decided to come all this way from a land which is not directly or normally connected this world.

Well, what is a bigger dream come true for a writer or a consistent reader than a character he or she loves coming alive? There can be awards, and I love the appreciation, but nothing like one of my favourite characters entering the world of the living. I am sure that at least some of you will agree to this. This is what ‘A Writer’s Wildest Dream Come True’ means.

The Story of Awards

We have seen many types of Film Awards, but this year’s Kerala State Film Awards managed to not just surprise but shock the movie lovers all around Kerala. I never really had much hope about it as the movies of 2014 didn’t have that big impact as 2013 which was full of wonderful flicks including Amen, North 24 Kaatham, Memories, Philips and the Monkey Pen, Drishyam and others. I have myself missed too many Malayalam movies in the same year because of the same reason, and so I wouldn’t say which movie should have won the most!

But it is easier to say which movies never really come close to winning, especially when the winners are from the list of movies which I have watched. I don’t want to talk about anybody’s personal choices, but as movies, none of these had that quality and neither did the performances – they were mostly good, but not enough to win anything. It is fair to rate movies and performances according to our personal choices, but there is something more about receiving a few big awards from the state.

There are three movies, Bangalore Days, 1983 and Om Santhi Oshana which came more powerful than the others in the list of winners, and none of them was a serious movie. I am not going to get into the other winners, but stick to these three. I will agree to the Popular Film Award for Om Santhi Oshana because I have heard even from a lot of non-Keralites about how much they liked this movie. I am also glad that Iyobinte Pusthakam won a number of accolades too, because I consider it as the best entertainer of the year which was supported by solid performances, visual beauty and fine messages.

bangaloredays (1)

I consider Amal Neerad winning the Best Cinematographer Award for Iyobinte Pusthakam as the most expected and perfect result. Coming back to the first movie in question here. Bangalore Days which had almost no script to talk about, has won the award for the same. It was a clear failure in connecting with the audience with the cluelessness which often came forward, and still worked because of the number of superstars in the movie. It was still not a bad movie, and there were entertaining moments, but there was not enough strength there, and it was never a movie to be taken seriously or supposed to have had anything in the script.

Still, we see the name of that movie associated with the Best Actor and Actress, as Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim has that one in common. While the former’s performance was just too comic in nature, the latter does nothing special in the movie. I am sure that none of them did really have even a little guess about the awards when they acted in these roles. The movie was never really meant to be an award-winner, as it was just another movie for the masses, adding nothing that we hadn’t seen before. Still, Bangalore Days emerges as a winner, and one has to wonder why.

Then comes 1983. This strange and ridiculous glorification of cricket, which avoids all the game’s negatives and unnecessarily adds positives which never exist, never really had the scope for a serious performance because most of it is a fake. It pretends to be something that it is not, and there is no scope for any big performance. This makes the Best Character Role Award for Anoop Menon as another surprise because all that his character did on this movie was to bring hatred for people who doesn’t agree to his opinions, and inspired that abuse on Maria Sharapova – there is nothing in there. Nivin Pauly’s performance was good, but not huge.

Om Shanti Oshana (1)

Meanwhile, Om Shanti Oshana was a pure fun ride. It gave a twist to things by moving things through the viewpoint of the heroine rather than the hero. Even the cupid on the poster was female there. But there is nothing to be serious about this one either. It is a very happy feel-good movie full of nice jokes. But there is nothing to give Nazriya Nazim a chance at the Best Actress Award. I had actually thought that things were clearly moving towards Manju Warrier in How Old Are You? – but that was not to be. Then there is Mammootty who got the attention of critics. Well, Asianet Film Awards had got more things correctly. Apothecary also deserved better; so did Jayasurya.
