Removing the Wrong Scenes

Among the movies which have been running successfully this year, Ennu Ninte Moideen has a big place, and it might already be the highest grossing Malayalam movie of the year and was already the Malayalam movie with highest collection all-time after Drishyam, Premam and Bangalore Days when last checked a few days ago. It is a movie that claims its position by the quality of true love more than anything else. It is something that none of the newer movies could claim, and even so, it has been overrated by the fans as the greatest love movie of all times.

I recently came across two of the deleted scenes from the movie, which were uploaded on Youtube by the men behind the flick. Even though I liked this movie very much, I had my thoughts that some scenes which should have been there, had gone missing, making this movie incomplete at some parts. At some points, the movie was just rushed without having the connecting links. The character of Moideen surely deserved more moments, and with these two deleted scenes, we have two big ones!

The first scene has the character Kottatil Sethu (Bala) confronting Moideen (Prithviraj Sukumaran). This is a scene which has a very high impact in the rivalry between the two which develops after Moideen’s love for Kanchanamala (Parvathy Kottuvata). It has not just the intensity but the right display of the twist of events. There was the need for a big impact scene showing the change of things around and this is one such sequence which has been sadly removed from the movie.

Here, the football match has its announcement of players which begins and Sethu is nowhere to be found, only to appear later in the rival team. As he refuses to shake hands with Moideen, it shows his intention which is just to injure Moideen during the game, and Moideen plays along making sure that it doesn’t go on to become a fist fight and a possible communal riot later. The big brawl is nicely averted by Moideen with his intelligence, which is revealed in the end.

Prithviraj, Tovino and Bala has performed very nicely in these sequences. There are powerful feeling expressed around here, and you will love how Moideen reveals his intention towards not making a scene and inspiring a brawl or riot among his own people. The goodness of his mind and his smart ideas are on display here. One has to wonder why this wasn’t included in this movie. The fans would want the man to be a rowdy and beat everyone up and so they won’t want this intelligence sequences, but the thinking audience deserved this.

The second scene is even better and never deserved to be even though about to be deleted. It once again showed Moideen’s righteous state of mind because if he was murdered by the crowd, that would have caused a communal riot, even though the blind fans will want this removed hoping for the hero to beat up the whole crowd or stopped them with some punch dialogues. But here, Moideen chooses the right method, to retreat, something which every common man would have done.

The second scene also fills up some parts of story and Moideen’s character well. The fans wanted this character to be a rowdy or a murderer, which is why they would also want these scenes to be deleted. Those who thought that this was not quality enough will still love the “class” of Amar Akbar Anthony. There is also more of Sija Rose in this character rather than in the theatrical version. Someone with the ability to think will wonder why these scenes were deleted though! The only reason could be the total length of the movie, but for the same, there were other scenes which were better removed including the stage drama sequences.

Choice of the Heart

Most of the times, there is more than one choice in our life; and it matters how those decisions are taken. All the time, the self-proclaimed people keeps asking us to take decisions from the mind instead of the heart. It has always been the brain who got more attention, and in the end, we wonder if the right decision was taken when it involved the brain – if the heart could have done better? Isn’t the brain getting too much attention in a word which needs more empathy an compassion?

It has never been easy to listen to the heart in our society which looks only for the winners. There have been better times for the heart in the later stages of my life, but not during those earlier times when I was at school. Yes, the first graduation course was also a decision of the mind which had to be changed, but the school days were not so different either. There was no option to choose from the heart – none of us had the choice; no man or woman had a real choice at that time.

When you see such clouds on the sky, good things can happen to you :P

The brain asks you to aim for the skies, but what does the heart say?

Yes, there were men who made the choice, but I don’t consider them as my role-models. As far as my little universe was considered, none of them were part of the same. All my friends as well as myself were caught in this option to make no real choice. We were forced to join a random graduation related to the IT field which was at its full power during that time, even though things were beginning to somewhat come down by the time the course was finishing.

Therefore, the decision to join BCA was made out of the mind, because it was the perfect and absolutely sane decision at that time. Everyone else had been spending time looking for those engineering colleges, and doing BCA meant that less money was to be spent and still with an MCA added to the degree, I could be none less than an engineer and also a post-graduate, thus one step forward. Yes, I had qualified in the Kerala Engineering Entrance Examinations of that time just with my guess work, but BCA and MCA combination seemed better.

The rays of the sun welcomed me almost everyday.

It was the season of darkness; but things change when the heart takes over.

It was never the time of the heart. Such times had no place for the heart, because the aim of the society was to make an engineer out of even zombies. Each and every parent wanted to say that the son or daughter was studying for engineering. It hasn’t changed much even now, and the coconut trees are complaining that there are more engineers than them, leading to a change in demographics which can be dangerous to the relationship between humans and the trees of the state.

I never had good times with BCA, unless you want to mention sleeping in the classes and never going to the college for days as “good times”. This meant that the brain was rather the selfish and the greedy one, making choices out of having no real choice, and calling it a bloody choice even without an existence. Brain had kept telling that this is still awesome, and you could go on saying to the people that you are doing BCA, thus making everyone happy. But the heart had other ideas.

On one of those rainy days, supported by the beauty and serenity of the monsoon, I decided to end this from the bottom of my heart. There was no point in it, and the same was supported by my mother. Even though the majority was still against this decision and wanted to go with the mind, once again taking my choice out of me, I decided against listening to the same people who stopped my heart from making decisions. I made the decision to quit BCA and take a graduation in BA English and Literature – that felt awesome and it was a dil ki deal!

When Movies Come Alive

From 2006 to 2014, you have known where the history comes to life, but it is time that I make clear where the movies come alive. From 4th June 2014, I have been the member of a movie community called Flixpack where I stand more than seven hundred and fifty movie reviews strong, or rather “the movie punches strong” with the exact usage at the site being “punching movies”. I feel that it is a nice usage, because sometimes movies give us a punch or two, and it our right to give a few in return. Life often needs some retribution, right?

Flixpack is an interesting place to post your opinions about movies in the form of “punches”. One thing that you can be sure about here is that the setup is intensely interesting even in its beta mode. There are movies in eight languages as part of an extensive list of movies, which are Malayalam, English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada and Marathi. There is also the presence of the popular international movies which have the English dubbed version.

Flixpack Community comes up with a fair and supporting platform for sharing your opinions, unlike a few other places where the savage fans of certain actors wander around like cannibals waiting to pounce on the civilized person. Flixpack is more of a place having people respecting the opinions of others rather than those blind fans who always come up with a stupid comment or abuse whenever you say that a superstar movie is bad, the latest and the biggest addition to that list being Dulquer Salmaan fans.

There is that never-ending saga of dumb fan abuse as they feed on our brains like zombies needing brain noodles, but Flixpack makes sure about a community of mutual respect, and I have been part of it for months. It also makes things easy when you go for a movie. The list of the latest movies are on the right side of the homepage, and the latest trailers of the flicks are right below it. Flixpack makes sure that it is extremely difficult for you to miss a popular movie, and there is a need for this among the movie enthusiasts.

The first thing that you see when you load the Flixpack site are the movies that are trending on the site; those which have been recently reviewed, and you can also select the recently reviewed or commented reviews in detail from right below it. Your favourite like button is also present. There is also a list of the last year’s movies, and suggestions about movies and people to follow on the site along with a number of movies which are free to watch. You can follow people as well as become fan of the celebrities here.

The movie database is very easy to access. You can search for movies, celebrities and users from the search box at the top with ease. When you take a movie, for example, Jupiter Ascending, you can click on the genre “Science Fiction” to see more movies of the same genre, and also on the actor or actress, like Mila Kunis to see more movies in which she has acted in. There is the full cast and crew information as well as movie summary available. You can add the movies to favourites, watchlist, or the watched list and it shows on your profile.

Flixpack is only going through the beta stage, but the progress that has been achieved with the site is nothing less than gargantuan, considering the fact that there is a very long way to go. It has been a prerogative for me to be part of this wonderful initiative for the movie fans, and I believe most of you will like to have a look and spend some time at Flixpack and join the group. We need our movies, and we need to know about them as well as share our own opinions. Do take some time to check the Facebook Page from where the images are taken: https://www.facebook.com/flixpack
