The Weekend Satire

There is a certain amount of difficulty in finding the interesting satires these days. As far as the movies are concerned, the last big one goes a long way back to Pranchiyettan and the Saint as a full satire, even though there were others with some qualities of the genre. Bringing effective full satire to the audience needs a lot of skill and understanding the viewers as well as the society in a critical way. It is clear that most of the television programs never really understands what the viewers want. But there are surely exception in the same field.

There are two programs which successfully brings the satire to the next level though. One of them is Marimayam which deals with the corruption in government offices and other institutions, and makes fun of the situations. Broadcasted on Mazhavil Manorama on Saturdays and Sundays at 9:00 PM, it is one of the longest running satires ever in a Malayalam channel. Meanwhile, the second one is Vellanakalude Nadu which is broadcasted on Asianet at 10:30 PM every Sunday, bringing the satire related mainly to two families and their surroundings.

tvmarimayam

Existing since the time we remember Mazhavil Manorama has come to the viewers, Marimayam still continues its awesome journey. Even with its major actors S. P. Sreekumar and Rachana Narayanankutty not being part of the program, the rest does manage to hold things together. This Saturday had the funny version of how KSEB had decided to charge extra money if people are not at home when the employees come home to take the electricity meter reading. It was another fun episode to watch, and proves to be very interesting to the audience.

The Sunday version was even funnier with the episode dealing with dogs, dog lovers, common people and the government authorities, taking the satire in the right direction concerning the recent events. Another program in Mazhavil Manorama, the family comedy serial, Thatteem Mutteem also had the same theme this weekend, and Marimayam successfully takes it to the next level. We are given some idea about how it is going to be on Saturday itself. This is more of an episode which understands the pulse of the audience.

It is difficult to watch anything else when Badai Bunglaw is running on Asianet, but Marimayam has the worthy episodes which make us do the channel change in its direction. The last week’s flex episode was one of them; the same can be said about the episode on how people fall victim to money lending firms, and now this one is there for the week. This episode has one of the characters being bitten by a dog and in retaliation, the person beats the dog, and all of a sudden, the dog lovers appear.

What follows this incident is a series of funny situations which lead to an even funnier finish with the message that we can take to heart. There is the talk about how co-existence is something which is not forced, but has to come from mutual understanding and respect, and with respect for the life of the other – it is not hate that brings co-existence to life, for situations are not always the same. It is also the two hundredth episode of the same program.

Marimayam is the political and social satire which you have been looking for!

Lets get to the other program. Vellanakalude Nadu had a nice weekend earlier with a simple story. But this weekend’s show had a higher level of comedy. Beginning the episode at a police station, this one starts and ends with full fun, even though a message is less conveyed. The two programs made sure that this weekend was more fun than it was expected to be, at least the nights. Add the episodes of Badai Bunglaw and Onnum Onnum Moonu and that finishes the interesting weekend!

Year 2015: Story so Far

There were many happenings in the year 2015, and a lot of them haven’t been positive. There is the problem of seeing so many people who can’t respect the opinions of others when we are blogging. When outside the blogging, there is the problem of facing the relatives who ask the two big questions, which all of us Indians already know about. Life has been mediocre outside the blogging world or even worse, but as far as blogging is concerned, there were some positives throughout this year, most of them for which I am thankful to BlogAdda.

The best incident related to blogging happened to me in this March, in the month of my birthday itself, with winning the pass for the India Today Conclave contest, my first win from BlogAdda and it was huge. My post The Vision of a Lost Bat won the grand prize and my other post The World Remade was granted the runner-up prize. This was also the first time that I won anything for a post featuring the Vampire Bat. It was a perfect inspiration for me to blog at that time.

Then in May, there was the #DilKiDealOnSnapDeal activity from BlogAdda which made me feel that I could win more than one, and that my earlier victory was not a fluke. This second win made me feel better because it was something which I shared from my memories, and it is also something that I still cherish doing. My post Through the Sands of Time provided me my next win and it has also given me my first badge from BlogAdda. There is something about the badges from BlogAdda; with out names added to it, they look perfect.

Then in July, there the crashing into the winners of #CrashThePepsiIPL Contest. It was an interesting contest with different phases, and my post, Favourites of the List won in one of the phases there. I believe that it was in July that there was the #StressFreeMom Contest which had me winning again for the post All the Stress in the World and then again with #YoursHonestly Contest with my post A Letter on Integrity. It was the season of good things coming together at least in my blogging life.

post

JSW #WillOfSteel activity was one of my favourite contests, and I consider it as an honour and privilege to have participated in it. That was a nice escape from writing reviews and reading what the blind fans have to write, because what we were supposed to do were to support inspirational people who have made a difference in the world with their will of steel; the kind which India can be proud about. I actually posted about two such individuals on two different posts, and it is my post Tea for Inspiration which won the prize from BlogAdda.

wos

Then there is the recent win which came at a time when I was hoping to win something interesting, and my post Colours and Variety had a chance there. I was thinking that I was losing my strength, and then there was BlogAdda with this prize. Bed Bath More Paint Me Wild activity was where I wrote about what I actually wanted with my home in a completely personal manner, and it felt good that this one won a prize which is bigger than the other ones in the second half of the year.

I also have to share about my other post The Undead Book of Life because I won movie souvenirs from the movie The Path of Zarathustra, once again through an activity from BlogAdda. I love this one a lot because this is a movie which I really wanted to watch, but it didn’t release here. So, I decided to be happy with at least those souveniors. In a world where there are abusers and haters who will never accept the opinions of others, one can only be happy about BlogAdda providing us with such opportunities and rewards, making 2015 a better year.

This post is a part of Write Over the Weekend, an initiative for Indian Bloggers by BlogAdda.

Temptation by Innovation

I was reading about LG Nexus 5X, and there were a number of innovative features that caught my attention at the first look itself. I have always been satisfied with the mobile phones which I had, and none of the changes were really inspired by frustration, but the hope for finding more innovation. There are not many things other than innovation that inspires one to change the trusted mobile and buy a new one; such is the power of the innovative features – it draws us towards buying the gadget like nothing else.

We can love the present mobiles as much as we want to, but we are still driven towards the temptation. Innovation becomes that best part of the temptation which we can’t resist and have to fall for. It is nobody’s fault though, as we are left with no choice considering our limitations against resisting the temptations. The end result is that we give up the existing mobile phone and buy the new one, thus beginning the new age. Here are the innovations which the LG Nexus 5X brings to us to consider another awesome mobile phone for buying.

nexus (1)

The USB Type-C charger is with the reversible feature is that first thing that comes to my attention as the thing of innovation. I currently got two mobile phones with me, an Asus Zenfone 5 and a Samsung Galaxy A5, both of them having the different side up when I try to connect the charger or data cable. It has been confusing also because I try to connect it without looking – with this new feature of LG Nexus 5X, this has become possible. I can just do the same without looking or thinking with this option.

The Nexus Imprint is the next factor which contributes to the list of innovative things, and it seems to be something that every mobile should try to have. The presence of this fingerprint sensor makes sure that things get more secure, and at the same time, ease of use is guaranteed with this facility. It is placed on the back of the phone and under the camera where it rightly fits and brings further quick access to the user. Turning on the screen and unlocking the apps have never been this easy. This is a real smart move.

Then there is the chance to love the camera which is innovative in itself. I would love to test that one day; because I haven’t known something as big as the one LG Nexus 5X possesses; it seems to be something of higher quality above the usual innovations which got more of the claim than the reality. I have been lacking a certain amount of knowledge concerning the technical side, but as it seems and from what is read, this one looks like another innovative one which can further add to that list.

nexus (2)

With the 5.2-inch display and the hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, LG Nexus 5X brings something strong and beautiful to the market. The looks are stylish with the light blue version bringing a stunning effect, and the black one is also a beauty which is not that much far behind. There also seems to be a lot of pre-installed Google Apps which will add to total happiness factor of the mobile phone owner. There is the promise of the best Android experience also present there.

So, the temptation that LG Nexus 5X brings with the help of innovation is rather a powerful one from which you can escape only with consistent prayers, and the realization of the truth that you have an empty pocket. Otherwise, there is no escape, as the beauty of innovation will take you on this day or another. It is not just the innovation that tempts, but also the innovation that inspires creativity. The LG Nexus has been there for some time, and only gets better.

I am participating in the #ChampIsBack activity at BlogAdda.

A Few Extra Smiles

It was one of those days at the Dracula Castle with lesser darkness and more people. The clouds were still approaching from a distance. Dracula was not present, but the rest of the team as well as the zombie minions were around, searching for the new plans to make an attack on the werewolf stronghold to the north which was blocking the trade routes. After a lot of opinions thrown around, Vampire Bat had made a list and was preparing the final map for the grand attack.

Vampire Hamster: Enter Vampire Owl, from the land which has a name which I forgot a few months ago.

Vampire Owl: I was talking to the zombies in the graveyard and was surprised to hear something. Is it true that Uncle Dracula has turned full vegetarian after the recent root canal procedure?

Vampire Bat: I have heard some talks about the same too. He hasn’t been around the castle for some time and didn’t talk about drinking blood after the dental procedure.

Vampire Owl: I am not surprised about it at all. He always thought that the immortality extended to his fangs, and unfortunately, it didn’t. There was no such thing as immortal teeth. The elder vampires used to brush the teeth really well and so they have kept themselves away from dental problems. Uncle Dracula argued about it even after having the root canal done, and kept saying that the root canal never happened and everything is just an illusion brought upon us by the Witches of the North. What is it that you have heard?

Vampire Bat: I have heard that some products from McCain India were given to him and that brought a smile on his face. He proclaimed himself a proud vegetarian only after that.

cain (1)

Vampire Owl: Are you sure that it is not a rumour? The dirty werewolves create more and more rumours and our zombie minions spread them without second thoughts.

Vampire Bat: Not at all. It was from some of the reliable sources. They say that he even asked for more of the food.

Vampire Owl: I believe that he had the Vegetable Nuggets during that time. There is big chance for the same, as it reflected what his wife prepared for him in the last phase of immortality.

Vampire Bat: Yes, along with the McCain Aloo Tikki, as I have heard. He proclaimed it as a great vampire discovery and the true hope for the future of vampirism in all forms. Then he had French Fries like his life depended on it.

cain (2)

Vampire Hamster: Forgive me dear sir, but Sir Dracula turning vegetarian? This is surely news. But I don’t understand. It is not supposed to happen under normal circumstances. There has to be something else which has caused this.

Vampire Owl: You are not supposed to understand this thing. It is special and also more a thing of taste.

Vampire Hamster: But I would like to have the McCain Smiles to have the smiles on my face. Potatoes in the form of happy faces brings the happiness in me.

Vampire Bat: The decision on making it our official food remains with Uncle Dracula, but I am going to add this to the list.

Vampire Owl: Then there is the Chilli Garlic Potato Bites and those crispy Super Wedges. They look good. It is a fine list to bring the smiles.

Vampire Hamster: When I possess more hunger, I will have the McCain Veggie Burger. I can smile then too.

Vampire Owl: You haven’t seen the Cheese and Jalapeno Nuggets yet, and the Potato Cheese Shotz. That should bring you enough hunger.

Vampire Hamster: Now, that makes me hungry. I shall take leave now.

Vampire Bat: I see that you have left him on a great food trail.

Vampire Owl: The whole vampire team is turning vegetarian on the path set by Uncle Dracula. There are a few movements which have started in support. I have no doubt about the success of the same at least up-to an extent. Actually, there was one question which I really wanted to ask. When was the last time you smiled?

Vampire Bat: I don’t remember. It should have been a very long time.

Vampire Owl: Neither do I. Lets look for the lost smiles with McCain India.

Blood of the Fallen

I recently came across Spartacus, the television series which was inspired by the tales and historical accounts of Spartacus, a Thracian fighter and a later gladiator who had started a grand slave uprising against the Roman Republic. I have been looking forward to watching this one since a long time ago, but got the chance only later. The Third Servile War which occurred between 73 and 71 BC, depicted here has the take mostly from the viewpoint of the slaves and has more to do with ideals of Spartacus himself as expected.

I have managed to watch all the three episodes and also the prequel. Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Spartacus: Vengeance and Spartacus: War of the Damned as well as the prepared prequel, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena brings the story of the slave rebellion with interesting changes, and stylish presentation of another page from the history stained with blood and war. There is no shortage of moments which would make the parental guidance advisory list very long with its sex and violence, but Spartacus remains big entertainment.

spartacus (2)

The question about Spartacus aim being immediate freedom or ending slavery will forever be doubted, and so will the extended aims behind them. But this television series got us the legendary slave himself, giving life to the historical figure in an interesting way, beginning as the man who is sold to slavery and wishes to free himself and his wife from Rome as he rises in the gladiator ranks eclipsing the champion of the time, Crixus the undefeated Gaul by defeating the man they called “the shadow of death”. But with the death of his wife, and knowledge of treachery, he changes his path.

The first season is actually the best of them all, with interesting gladiator fights and an end which is very much satisfying with the death of the bad people of the time. It also has the one Roman who remains respected throughout the season until death, a feature which is absent otherwise. The battles as well as the opponents are very much catching our attention too. This has Spartacus moving away from the aim of being with his wife and focuses on freeing the other slaves from captivity.

Viva Bianca and Lucy Lawless are the ones who continues the awesomeness of the first season into the second from the Roman side. Replacing Lesley-Ann Brandt with Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Naevia comes as the big mistake of the second season, with Andy Whitfield already being lost to cancer and Liam McIntyre replacing him as Spartacus. Even though that latter replacement does work later, the change of the lady playing Naevia works completely against the series.

spartacus (1)

Except for a few battle tactics and some talks about ideas, Spartacus: Vengeance remains the weakest of all seasons. The only hope remains Katrina Law as Mira and Nick E. Tarabay as Ashur along with Viva Bianca and Lucy Lawless in a story which is less thick. The later efforts from Gannicus also bring some relief to this one, and the ending is fair. Even with two of the best Roman female characters dead, the excitement returns to Spartacus: War of the Damned as the ideals as well as the aim becomes clear here.

The last season is the deciding one, as Spartacus understands that justice will never exist in this world and decides to leave beyond the reach of Rome while Crixus decides to march on Rome with his people only to meet his end to the large army of highly trained Legionaries. Gannicus getting his spot is the biggest boon of this movie, and in the end, we know what happens. The prequel deals with how Gannicus had risen to the great hero and the God of the Arena. I would talk about these in detail later, and consider this post as what has come to my mind right after watching all the seasons.

Smile on a Face

I have always believed in Vegetable Nuggets. Along with the French Fries, these have been my favourite whenever I wanted to have something light for the stomach whenever I visited a mall or multiplex. They were quite cheap, and just like popcorn, could be eaten while watching a movie on the big screen or television. I also used to have them with the rice just like vegetable cutlet. So McCain Veggie Nuggets is the first thing that catches my attention here too.

cain (1)

Then there is the Aloo Tikki, and these two makes life better. As we usually have vegetarian food for most of time, there are these two things which can bring the change when we are having some time out or traveling. There can also be some French Fries to go with these, but the two things become significant in more than one way. I have often wondered how life will be without these two things, and it is nice to see that McCain Foods India is providing them and making sure that they are better available.

Both of these items are not readily available close to where I live, and it is another case of misfortune. The options with the vegetarian food haven’t been much, and when they are here, it has been mostly about the South Indian food items. I have only recently known about the existence of Aloo Tikki as what it is, reminding me of the Vegetable Cutlet along with Vegetable Nuggets also doing the same. It has been different for the local bakeries and restaurants though.

cain (2)

The situation always brought something like Onion Vada, Uzhunnu Vada or Parippu Vada instead of the rest as some light food. Even otherwise, it could only bring the Vegetable Puffs, Vegetable Burger or Samosa as the biggest variety which has been with us all these times available at the bakeries. Having the same food has been part of our lives whenever there was no non-vegetarian option. We still hoped for more variety, but never really had them around here.

This brings a smile to our faces as they are the perfect light food items to have at any time, with the tea or just having in hand as part of the food while traveling to that place where food is not easy to get. The two food items can also be combined with rice to make up for a possible vegetable curry absence. It is a nice combination to have, and it brings happy times as the side dish not only for the usual rice, but also for the Biriyani Rice or Fried Rice, with or without gravy.

So, these snacks need to be there whenever there is the need. The presence of the same when we are looking, will only make sure of the smile on the face. This is the kind of food that most of us having been waiting to have when the need arises, and it has been so for quite a long time. So, the happiness is when they become available a lot more and at many more places. In a world of chaos, may be we can at least be happy about the food that we desire for.

When it is all about food, we have our interesting choices. They are not the same everywhere, but there will be the very few which we will always prefer to have. When we succeed in having them, it puts a smile on our faces, at least at that point of time. It is among of those very few things which can make us happy in a world which holds nothing much for humanity other than depression and sadness as McCain India brings them.

What Do You Earn?

[The story so far: The wizards join in the grand tower to make sure that the sons and daughters choose nothing other than the Dwarven engineering or the Elven healing. The Wizard of Wind takes another step towards the same as he receives the book “Guide to Destroying the Hopes of Others” and advice from the Dwarven. Meanwhile, the rest of the magical world remains free of the ridiculous thought procedures of the wizards, but they continue to do so. ***The images used in this post are screenshots from my time spent in the game, Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic which I highly recommend.]

The Wizard of Wind had managed to start a new store in the middle of the city to spread information about the children of the wizards and sorceresses who were earning high salaries. He had made a big list about the same, and had put the name of his son at the top. He was always amending the list and showing it to others, and he had named the place the Hall of Fame with Coffee where he would boast about his family to everyone who comes to have a drink. Anyone who desired not to hear about the same were immediately thrown out of the shop.

The wizards join at the central tower...

The wizard’s idea is not the smartest, but it is mostly the most one-sided.

“But why are you so much after the money? Isn’t there life beyond the strength of coins?” a satyr asked once. He also had the opportunity to repeat the question, which was not going to be tolerated by a wizard.

“You have no knowledge about the truth; you are not even close to knowing” said the Wizard of Wind before throwing him out through the window with the help of his skeletal minions.

“Replace the glass windows and keep them open so that we can throw more people out at regular intervals” he added.
“But it is still the truth, isn’t it? Everyone sees some truth in it” a waiter asked.

“It is not the truth that I believe in and wish to spread. It bothers me and relieves me of my awesomeness” The Wizard of Wind said.

“Oh. Do we need to know anything to make sure that only your truth stands? Is it our ultimate aim?” the waiter asked.

“Just follow the procedure and throw all those who come with any other version of truth right through the window with the same velocity. I wish to make a magical spell which does that automatically, but I am too busy with praising my people and blaming others that I am not that good with the magic any more” added the Wizard of Wind with quite a good amount of anger.

“So, you need only two types of people; only those with a lot of money or the ones who praise your ideas about how it is awesome to have a lot of money with plans to earn even more coin” the waiter further asked.

“Yes, now you got what I want and usually talk about. You can now go back to work” the Wizard of Wind instructed.

“So, the salary is at sixty five thousand. I have to see how these Pounds, Dinars and Dollars convert into rupees and see how much that boy earns. Then I can make a table on how much he saves by making a guess about how much is spent and also how much is needed for his home. Then I will find a formula which adds the salary of the wives if there are any. Only with the money earned can I find out the goodness. Only the rich children can be good and useful people, I know that” the Wizard of Wind told himself.

The rest of the world outside the Dwarven-High Elf territory

There will be no talk about the rest of the world outside the Dwarven-High Elf territory.

The Wizard of Wind found it very difficult not to compare people, as it had become part of his life. Now, with a lot of advice gained and the Orb of Negativity, he could always make his plans work in an easier way. The ultimate weapon for pessimism was always within his reach and he could use it to his advantage. The world of politics inside the realm of magic was nothing without people like him, even as he knew very less of how much more he could do if he could have chosen goodness as righteousness.

The Legend of Root Canal

It was in the year 2007 that I first heard about the great legend of root canal in detail. But it was already known from a time when the Vampire Team was actually having Pappaya Shake and Grape Juice in honour of Uncle Dracula’s birthday when a few mortals were talking about the same. The vampires had believed in immortality of fangs, but nothing about the same was said in the great vampire books. Fangs were never supposed to live forever and even immortals needed dentists to save the day.

Well, I might have heard something about it on a lot more occasions, but never really cared much. The realization that I need understand more about this legend came on the day before an exam. There is something between me and the exams, as the day before the written test always provided me something negative; may be we were never supposed to be together in a hall with question papers. The day before the examination is usually the day of big evil. It is an unpredictable day on which anything can happen, even if there is a harthal in store for the next day.

Darkness spreads. But how fast can that happen?

Evil has its way in darkness, but the first nemesis of my teeth was Chakka Varuthathu.

Evil comes in many forms, and it always finds a way, no matter what the environment is about. That time, the culprit was what we call Chakka Varuthathu, officially worthy of being called Fried Jackfruit Chips – it was one of our usual snacks with Banana Chips, Tapioca Chips and Potato Chips, used while watching strange movies, cheering for a team in cricket or football and even when watching cricket. But it was never known before that such things could break a piece of teeth into two like a solid hammer on a rock, but it was about this that you are going to read about.

I had one nice bite of the chips while reading a book, and the result was surely not awesome for me, but it assured me that dentist will get another opportunity to show his skills, and provide me with a taste of the legend about what the root canal therapy or what they officially called endodontic therapy, proving it to be true and worthy. A significant part of my last molar on the left lower level had fallen off with the filling which has been serving it for quite a long time. It meant that the legend had to proven true.

Eight years have passed after that significant incident which saw the legend becoming true and myself choosing a steel coloured crown because I wanted to see it as a crown and not as another teeth. It needed to have something special because it lacked what the usual teeth had. It is my gift to that special teeth which is no more the teeth it used to be, as the soul has departed. I made that choice and it has stayed strong until now, and this time it was the upper molar, second one from the left which was going to suffer the same fate.

Well, these were the ones which finished the good times!

It is really bad to have anything too cold or hot these times, right? 😦

It was just another day, and it was the Guava which did the trick this time with its evil seeds infiltrating that one teeth and taking a part of it when retreating; some popcorn during a movie later contributed more, and then the later filling could also stay alive for just a few days only. The legend had to return again to save the day, and root canal was adviced even though a crown without a root canal might still be possible; but I was like, why take the risk when the condition of the tooth looks as if coffin is a nice choice.

So, I took the opportunity to unleash the legend on my teeth and now it is ready for the crown. This crown which is to become the armour of my teeth will save it against all signs of death and destruction. Yes, Lady Death can take me, but not my teeth, at least not as a whole. I will defend this well, as long as there are dental clinics and dentists in this world which provides so much of sweets and tough food to destroy my teeth. I should be friends with more dentists, and I am hoping to send a few more friend requests.

Favourite Shots II

It was only now that I felt the need for sharing a second set of the favourite shots taken on my camera by me. I would start with the Chinese fishing nets at Fort Cochin which have been one of the most significant tourist attractions of the place which haven’t been historical, religious or spiritual in nature. There are so many of them, and as they are photogenic, they form one of the many symbols of the place. If you walk around the Fort Cochin beach, you can have some nice shots of the same. Here you can see a modern reflection on the other side.

DSC01605

Among the favourite photos, the backwaters of Kerala needs to be there; that didn’t happen in the first set of photos, but it does here. Kumarakom has left a few more memories, as on one day, we decided to choose the smaller boats to go on a journey through the backwaters of Kerala. It is an interesting journey as we see the bigger houseboats keep moving around – there is beauty all around and we notice them closer. After the process, there is also the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary to have a look at.

DSC05697

Bhoothathankettu Dam and its nearby forests have been the tourist destination which I have known for a very long time, right from my childhood. The place has expanded a lot with more facilities these days as the number of tourists has increased. The myth of the demons and monsters had only re-inforced my love for the place during that horror novel filled childhood. It is less than thirty kilometres from the Cochin International Airport and quite close to the town of Kothamangalam.

DSC00828

We have visited Ezhattumugham since the first time we had any idea about its existence. The place has changed a lot since my first visit there, and still it retains some of the peace and tranquility of the earlier times. It is one of the closest tourist attraction to the Cochin International Airport and is good enough to combine with your trip with Athirappilly Waterfalls. The photo is from the times of the rain when there was water everywhere. It is more of a joy to watch then.

DSC03103

Located less than twenty kilometres from Thodupuzha, Thommankuthu is another beautiful destination which I have visited multiple times. It is one of the better known eco-tourism centres of the area, and the walk on the sides of the stream leads to the waterfalls which is a very beautiful sight. It provides a nice and interesting place to spend some time in peace, away from the busy world. All the path to this place itself makes sure that there is an interesting journey in store.

20141129_114119

There was one small island which caught my attention during a houseboat journey through Aleppey, and there were so many houseboats around making it an interesting view of busy waterways. The backwaters remain a thing of beauty, and the time spent in exploring the same is never wasted. There is always something more to be caught in the camera, and it is the advantage of being here.

DSC06525

I managed to take this photo at Kannur, from the Saint Angelo Fort. It remains a special favourite, and taken during a time when I was reading Old Man and the Sea, it feels good to have this shot coming up good. The fort itself is a wonderful place to spend some time and also witness the historical landmark which is well maintained. There is also the presence of enough greenery around to add to the charm.

Newspaper of the Day

Newspapers have been with mostly unpleasant or depressing news, and it is usually not the best idea to read them. It is more of a source of demotivation and plays an interesting role in bringing sadness. The good news is no different, especially with certain newspapers which keep talking about the Bollywood news in particular. May be there are people who want to know what the celebrities love, want to do, who they wish to marry and what food they have. But it is never something of a true reader’s concern. So, here is the ideal news instead, even though these might never happen.

“The world finally decides to become one”
Zurich: After many hours long discussion, the world leaders finally decided to open the borders to create a world without walls. This was the result of the ever increasing refugee crisis and the mutual hatred in the name of nationalism and patriotism. With the atrocities committed in the name of patriotism becoming equal to terrorism, the leaders have decided to make it one big nation for humans where equality thrived. With most of the world leaders agreeing to this, it is expected that the others will also follow.

Just one of those streams which should be crossed during the journey on foot.

It is never right about limiting people to nations; humanity should be free.

“Scientists take a u-turn to save the world”
Copenhagen: There has been a big twist, and a strong decision was taken on this day during the final day of the conference of scientists today, as a stand was taken to prevent any research on weapons, after the leaders decided to break down the walls. All other researches were also to be put on hold until the medical care was developed to its maximum and until there was provisions to save enough food for the poor. “There is enough to feed the poor, but we just never care about it in the arms and space race and competition between the nations to prove who is better”, one of them was quoted saying.

“Nobody cares about the personal lives of celebrities”
Trivandrum: Frustrated by the news about celebrities whom they don’t even know or care about having a dog, drinking Pepsi, not liking another celebrity, going on a trip to Somalia, having a stomach upset, buying a new mobile phone, getting a haircut and many other things, movie fans decided to start a movement against what they called a case of pure nonsense. “May be they can reduce the price of the newspapers as they get rid of this nonsense which nobody wants to read” one of the fans were quoted saying. The fans are also trying to take the movement into the social media.

In the life of modernity, what is it that we can do for the society?

There are darker clouds which need attention instead of focusing on the ridiculous.

“India wins the FIFA World Cup”
Cochin: In a big twist which nobody had expected, India defeated Netherlands and has managed to win the FIFA World Cup, thanks to the last minute goal during the second half of the extra time from Sushanth Mathew assisted by Sandesh Jhingan. After two tough halfs which saw extremely strong defence which prevented the Dutch from scoring, the first half of the extra time almost saw Netherlands making it if it wasn’t for the crossbar. But in the 120th minute of the game, one goal sealed the game making sure that there was no need for the penality shootout.

“T20 matches banned along with IPL”
Mumbai: In an attempt to bring quality back to cricket, BCCI decided to ban T20 matches which goes along with its previous decision to ban IPL after taking into consideration, the amount of corruption involved in it. The best players of the times are already parts of too many cases of match-fixing, and this decision should have come earlier – many fans were heard saying. BCCI thus becomes the last cricket board of a test playing nation to ban T20 and has decided to stop playing T20 with the non-test playing nations because the regular members were not available.

“Roger Federer becomes the oldest player to win a Grandslam”
London: It has been a long time since he won a Grand Slam at his favourite surface, and he once again reached the final. He had lost a good number of finals earlier, but not this time, as he managed to go through his nemesis, Novak Djokovic after one of the longest tennis matches in a Grand Slam final. After losing the first two sets 5-7 and 4-6, Federer managed to win the next two by tie-breaks 7-6(13) and 7-6(16). The last set went on, and finally Federer had the last laugh with two SABR attacks in a row to break the man in form. Final score was 5-7, 4-6, 7-6(13), 7-6(16), 18-16.

Airtel 4G: Internet Flashback

So, I have been part of the Cochin and Trivandrum launching and preview of #Airtel4G and I have written long posts about it, four about my experience at the former and one about the same at the latter city. Being the fastest network as of now, Airtel being the only network having the 4G option, can continue to claim to be the fastest network around here, in those three Keralite cities, Cochin, Trivandrum and Calicut if we consider Kerala. There is surely going to be an expansion for the future, and I hope that it includes my current location too.

This speed brings me back to my past, to that moment when I got my first computer which was quite a slow one. It was called Zenith the One Up PC with an Intel Pentium Processor. I didn’t understand what they meant by the “up” because it was behind most of the computers of that time which looked the same. Nowadays, I don’t even know someone who has a PC from Zenith. I believe that it was in the year 1998 that the new computer arrived, I think I had access to slow internet very soon too. But we were satisfied with that at those times.

Well, we still have the slow internet which is slower than ever, as some of the dongles do give us that slow speed for the unlimited connections after acertain limit – the speed has been reduced to 64Kbps these days which is no better than the dial-up connections of that time considering what all we have to load. So, we haven’t really improved from that time as long as we decide to suffer with the slow speeds. From just randomly using social networking sites like Friendster and Hi5, the situation has gone on through Orkut and Myspace to Facebook which has become the big part of life. So, the internet needs more.

At those times, there were two games, Claw and Hocus Pocus, the first one needing the CD to play. Then there was the CD featuring 99 games which changed my life with games including Blood and Alone in the Dark. At that time there was only that dial-up modem, I depended on these disks from Computers@Home, PC World, Chip, It, Efy, Fast Forward, Living Digital and the rest attracting us with headings like “Real War Games”, “25 Must Haves”,”Colour Your World”, “Paranoid Parent Kit”, “Go Picture Crazy”, “Print Adventure”,”Ultimate Utility Cache” – the games and utilities came from the disks only. Now it has gone beyond that.

The movies had to be rented too, and I created my first mail address at Yahoo and waited while having more and more biscuits with tea. The thoughts about downloading a game or watching a movie from the internet was not going to be something in the dream. Even in the later stages, playing an online game was tough for me considering the high-speed internet which the people from other parts of the world possessed. Games like Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena asked for it, but the internet made sure that I never came first.

We were the people of the slow internet, and were limited to playing with local friends only. But everything is faster now, and still we will be behind in comparison. #Airtel4G can surely change that with its speed. The advantage of having the wired connection is that the speed remains the same all the time, and so I will keep the broadband, and would like to have the #Airtel4G for using during travel. As none of the USB dongles really do that well, this could prove interesting, especially as it can be used for the mobile too, with the portable Mi-Fi device.

The #Airtel 4G speed has been excellent throughout both cities of Cochin and Trivandrum except for some pockets, even though it is quick to shift to 2G when it is outside the city limits. The consistency has been better at Cochin though, but that would depend on a lot of factors, I guess. I am not sure if I will recharge it with 4G right now though, because it is not there at my hometown right now. But I hope to use it with all its speed, as the distance from the place of availability of 3G to my location is less than twenty kilometres. The rates are supposed to be the same as 3G, and so I will need to look at it too.
