The Policy of Honesty

This is a letter consisting of all those which were said to me by my mother from the childhood onward related to honesty – consisting of a number of things which I can remember. I am not someone who is known to keep recollecting my childhood memories, and so I will adjust with all which I can remember right now and can beautify here. There is nobody like a mother to teach her children honesty and righteousness as they lay the best foundation.

My dear son,
I know that honesty might not work like you might have wanted it to, and in the current world of great achievers who make money out ofeverywhere with lies and cheating, it might seem to you that the other darker path is the more beautiful and stylish one. You already know that most of your friends and relatives are following a path with less shades of the light. It has become the way of the world, as the universe has surely taken a big u-turn in this century.

I know that you are consistently bugged by those achievers who consider you as an inferior person while they lied their way to the top or are lying about their achievements. But you just need to stick to your present ideas, those which you have been carrying with you for such a long time. None of your ideas should be without integrity, and you should pray to God with your promise to be fair and honest. You don’t need to be dishonest to make something happen. You have to keep your individuality.

You should be a good person rather than an achiever. Always the righteousness and morality should come before money and power. Do you remember the movie Pranchiyettan and the Saint? As the saint asks by the end of that movie, are those people whom we hail as achievers, really achieved? Do we know if they are really happy or will continue to be happy just with all those money which they are not going to take to the other world after their death?

They will continue to pretend so that a fake image can be presented in front of the society and they can boast a lot. But lets not do that. Lets not be the dishonest pretender, but the true contender in the right way. You don’t need to pretend and be someone whom you are not, because that is dishonesty of the highest kind, not just to others, but to your own essence. Sometimes, you will end up with the company to which you don’t belong. Better be alone rather be in the bad company; be honest with what you are and what you need, and keep yourself as who you are. You are one of your kind; stay honest to that.

I have been busy throughout my life, as work has demanded me to stay away from you for almost the whole day time. But I have always hoped and prayed for you with all my heart. There might be moments when some of those friends and relatives might tell you about how lucky they are to have their money making sons and daughters who are married to brides and grooms from rich families and still making a lot of cash together, staying away from home. They will boast about their big achieving sons and daughters who have left them for money.

No, they are not being honest there. They boast about the same, but are really sad and depressed that their children are not with them when they are hoping to spend their retired life in peace. But let me be honest; I am very happy that you are with us when we have moved to a new place and are trying to keep our retired life going. Let these dishonest people not get to you, because you being with us throughout your life is the best things that has happened to us. Let the liars go on with their lies, but you should be honest and stay with your values, never trying to outshine them. Let the others lie and lie until the truth comes out of their mouths in the end.
