Rediscovering a Passion

There are many things I have been. But among them, one of the strongest was about being a gamer, someone who could stay awake all night and play all of those games on the computer as well as online. There was also that LAN gaming saga which was there between us friends. But things have changed, as we replaced our high performance computer system supported by that powerful graphics card, with two laptops for home, a procedure which stopped my gaming like a dead end.

There were the games like Age Of Empires, Age of Wonders, Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament, which were the older games which had me interested, along with those newer games of the time Prototype, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Mass Effect which formed my later love along with Crysis and Assassin’s Creed. But then, everything disappeared, and it was like vanishing into thin air – the process was quick, and I did nothing to stop the same.

My wandering through those lovely beaches in awesome military vehicles – gone now

When I was a gamer, I used to believe in myself. I had good friends, better ideas and the belief that I could do things that nobody could. But as I ended that procedure, I felt a certain amount of weakness in me. I had the feeling that I wasn’t that good as I used to be, and my confidence went down another level. People did say that the end of gaming was a good thing for me, but I could feel it in my heart more and more as time passed.

What I didn’t realize that it was gaming that made me a more confident person, and may be even a better me. The games had brought the believer in me to another stage, but I had never realized that, and stopped everything all of a sudden. I should have stuck to the older games on my laptop, but for some reason, I tried, but could never really stick to it. It was a sad state for me.

On this New Year, I make the resolution to bring gaming back to my life. I have only a mobile which doesn’t support most of those big games, which is why I need a tablet, something like Micromax Canvas Tab P666 which can bring my passion for gaming back from the bottom of the abyss. It is surely going to bring back the gamer in me to life in a procedure of resurrection, especially my First Person Shooter side.

This one has Intel Hyper-Threading Technology and having such a fast and responsive tab will boost the gamer in me like never before in the last few years, and I am hoping to get it one day. It also boasts of Seamless Multitasking with Intel Burst Performance Technology. Even as there are many things that the Canvas Tab can do with the movie lover and the bookworm in me, lets believe in the power of this gadget to make gaming come alive for now!

Adventures of Simona

The presence of Simona the Lionhearted a.k.a SI-MO the Kitty, the most valiant cat of its times at our home has passed a month in total with a few days extra, as of now. November 28 was her day of baptism, with the date of birth unknown, and after being named Simona, she has made a lot of progress these days. She has turned more playful, and is also so much quicker than she used to be – you can miss her easily if you just turn your eyes away for even a second. And yes, she is having a lot more food, and knows what to do when she needs food.

New avatar: Simona the explorer of the Newfoundland.

New avatar: Simona is one of the legendary explorers of the Newfoundland.

Simona is not just a kitten now as she has become part of the family. She is no longer afraid. She seems to understand and realize things better now, like sitting on a sofa only when someone is present, and also to stay with the company of her newfound family instead of being alone. She is never happy when she is left alone, and nowadays, she is very much aware of the house, as she often comes all the way up to my room and starts knocking on the door whenever she wants to play.

A kiss to whatever it is, just because she can. Kitten power.

A kiss to whatever it is, and tries to bring it down, just because she can. Kitten power.

Sometimes, Simona is the Phantom, the ghost who walks, and it is impossible to detect her, but the cover is blown when she finds a familiar leg which she wants to hug. On another day, she might be The Flash, going faster than any creature that has ever set foot in our house. On another occasion, she might be Mandrake, the magician who plays with her magic wand which should the splinters made of any type of wood. There are times when she becomes the enchanting Carmilla, ready to bite the lesser mortal creatures with her mighty little fangs.

Simona can smell what the Rock is cooking. A question answered there.

Simona can smell what the Rock is cooking. A big wrestling related question answered here.

Simona was never the first cat that we have given some space in our home. You might have already read about Zeezee (https://theteacerebration.wordpress.com/2014/11/06/zeezee-the-oracle/) – the one who is no longer with us. There have been predecessors. There was the pure white kitten which spent time while jumping around our shuttle cat and the pure black kitten which had some happy times around our world, both being hit by cars. There was also another kitten going back to my childhood, which is believed to have been kidnapped.

Simona's mother had told her that she could climb a tree - first attempt.

Simona’s mother had told her that she could climb a tree – first attempt being made here.

But Simona had stayed and mingled with us like no other kitten has done before. She has adjusted with her home and seems to have fallen in love with it. We do keep an eye on her though, as there is a big cat wandering around on the top of the walls and there are lots of stray dogs roaming around just outside the gate. We shall keep an eye on her all the time and try our best to make sure that her time in home remains awesome.

The blue flowers. Simona has seen it and she will find it :D

The blue flowers. Simona has seen the Morning Glory and she will soon find the location 😀

My friend, James dedicated this song to Simona and yes she is getting older now – see how much bigger she is now from the earlier post I had put on my log (https://theteacerebration.wordpress.com/2014/12/06/how-i-met-my-kitten/) 😀 When this kitten gets older and becomes the La Belle Dame Simona, there comes the bigger responsibilities; may be she can listen to this one later 😀 If you wish to dedicate something more for her, you are welcome 🙂

As I still keep worrying that she might one day go out and be in trouble, you are also welcome to give me some suggestions about having a cat at home. I haven’t had the opportunity to have one at home for this long a period along with becoming this close, until now. Any advice is welcome, but only in the case of cats 😀 May be this will also inspire me to have another pet at home, and the next one might not be a cat – who knows? 😉

Mili: An Introvert Queen

Mili is an upcoming movie about an unhappy girl, a not much loved Mili finding her way as she finds her path in a society which seems to have nothing for her. Disliked by her acquaintances and in her solitude, this introvert, a girl not loved or considered good for a company, will find direction and shall thrive. Our central character is a playschool teacher who chooses to be with children as the elder ones are always judgemental. Mili is not just another character, but one of the large number of people who are looked down upon for one reason. No, she is not a random nerd who changes when removing glasses. *These are only what I have figured out by reading about this movie.

Yes, that one reason should be for being an introvert, and what is derived from the same includes the inability to follow the society. There is the unruly world of hypocrites that we live in, which stops us from pursuing our dreams. Some people can say, that anyone can choose anything, but the real truth is that they can’t. Nobody can, in this world, and people who think so are also partial hypocrites. There are judges in the form of relatives who choose to be the Sword of Damocles and continue to be proud of being a bloody distraction.

The story of Mili should begin and end with everyone having a personality.

The story of Mili should begin and end with everyone having a distinct personality.

There is a path set by these people, and those who travel through that path, and those people who say better lies will always be adored. But those who speak the truth, and chooses to live in their own world are considered second or third grade people. What you need to succeed in this world is a tongue and the ability to lie like a river running wild. In the world of fake smiles, and when people consider money as the first thing in rating others, what can you expect?

So, what I expect from Mili is to have a Queen-like protagonist in a heroine-centric character, and this time, our heroine will not just stand for women. She will stand for everyone who suffer due the disgusting narrow-minded nonsense that is injected by the society in the name of behaviour and style of talking. She will lighten the solitude that comes a partial result of the same, and Mili will take over and destroy the visages of vanity that surrounds us – this is that bloody vanity that demands bones from us after we are dead.

This movie should be the support for not just one Mili, but many others to be themselves without being judged by the society, surrounded by the relatives who try to control her like a puppet. Everybody needs the right to have one’s own choices, and when that is denied, one fears even to become an introvert. But your extended family can be like a demon from the depths of Tartarus, as it is mindless in its brain and clueless in its actions. Do we have love? No, we have only the kind of people who find awesomeness in devil’s favourite sin, vanity. Any idiot can give dumb advice, but only good people can support someone in need.

Mili will always be Mili. If you don't like it, please go to the Ninth Circle of Hell.

Mili will always be Mili. If you don’t like it, please have a sojourn at the Ninth Circle of Hell.

Get a job, get a job; says the relatives. Why do you want to study more, they ask. Be like that person who makes a lot of money. But do they realize the fact that most of their so called awesome people went to have a job because they were too lazy to study, and most of them have already made it clear that they don’t want to learn anymore. Some of them actually had to choose this option to get away from you people. My question is why should someone stop learning at any moment?

You have given birth to a group of people who don’t value learning, but only wishes to make money; congratulations, society. You shall suffer due to the same, sooner or later – teach your children more and more materialism and no values because that it the only thing you can do. Don’t force them to be Icarus – for life is not all about flying to the Sun. Have you even noticed their wings and for what it suits? It is all about letting people be themselves and go through their chosen path with confidence.

Here is the trailer for the movie with English subtitles. I am in no hope that this movie will change the attitude of people towards introverts or those who prefer to be a little weird. I don’t believe that this can change the society in just one day. But I have faith that this can be the beginning of something good, and respectable. May be this marks the beginning of a trend which makes sure that people don’t choose to be the same, but have individuality and separate personality – may be this movie can help in making one less of a robot and more human.

Hoping to watch Mili and stay motivated! 🙂 Mili comes to you on January 2nd as one of the first movies of the year. I hope for a certain amount of awesomeness with The Queen Mili and wish this movie and its leading actors Amala Paul and Nivin Pauly all the best. Check the Wikipedia link of the same at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mili_(2015_film) and the official Facebook page of the movie at https://www.facebook.com/milimovieofficial (the images used in this blog post are from here). I leave you all with the link to its promotional song.

Please do not compare your children with anyone. Everyone is special and born to follow their dreams. If it gets delayed, it doesn’t mean that there is the immediate need to get a job and be married. It is just your selfishness that makes you feel so, especially when you have different laws for your own children and somebody else’s kids. Kindly stop being a hypocrite. PS: Everybody needn’t be an engineer or doctor and everyone doesn’t need an MBA as ornament. Thank you.

Tomorrow Rarely Dies

*This story features the major characters from the two movies John Wick and Hitman (one of the most admired video games of all time, and one of those games which had me very interested in it for years – I might still give it another try). The two assassins here are John Wick a.k.a. “The Boogeyman” and “Agent Codename 47” from the respective movies. The story takes place after the movie John Wick, and also after the movie Hitman even as nothing much of his past is mentioned in this tale.

John Wick wandered around with his newly found companion dog. He had finished the revenge on the Russian mobsters and was now spending his time in peace in the memories of his dead wife and that lost puppy. His new home was away from the city, in the countryside with his house surrounded by nothing, but trees.

Shave John Wick. Being Boogeyman doesn't need a beard.

Shave at some point of time, John Wick. Being Boogeyman doesn’t need a beard.

All of a sudden, a gunshot was heard. He felt something touch his hair on the way and as he looked at where it was headed, he saw a bullet mark on the tree on his left. He quickly took his gun from the pocket and started shooting without any stop in between.

A clean shaven face emerged from behind the trees and took one shot which hit John on the shoulders. He recognized the face. “Agent 47” he said. “Damn you assassins. Can’t you stop it now. Everyone is dead because I killed them. It has been a long time, and there is nobody to pay you for my head. It is so difficult being a retired asssassin” complained John.

“You are mistaken. I don’t do this for money. I do this for fun. You were killing people just in the name of a dog, and therefore am I not better? I do this as my special Christmas entertainment. I am a predator and I am trained for it. That old man might have died, but the offer was never closed and it still stands. I am doing this job free of cost, and I also miss Miss Perkins. This might even inspire another video game and a movie franchise like Alien vs Predator. Hitman vs Boogeyman; sounds fair” said Agent 47.

Agent 47 meant business as he always did. I doubt if anyone can find an occasion when he faltered. As John tried to make another attempt, Agent 47 retaliated with another shot which hit him on the other shoulder, making it almost impossible for him to target. John rolled away with his injured shoulders and made it into his house with Agent 47 waiting outside with his favourite weapon, AMT Hardballer.

“Is there space for a well groomed face in your house? I have never seen you under my bed. Aren’t you the one afraid of razors, Mr. Boogeyman?” Agent 47 asked loudly.

You don't mess with Agent 47 - look at the confidence of having shaved :D

You don’t mess with Agent 47 – look at the confidence of having shaved 😀

John took his Gillette Fusion razor and started shaving, as gunshots were firing on the outside. Agent 47 was breaking in. But John had shaven now, gaining his confidence and has put his assassin’s suit on, as he is ready as he loaded his Heckler & Koch P30. With the bullets having only scratched him and having taken painkillers, he is back to doing what he did the best, as the fiery Boogeyman. The real battle starts now as the assassins in suits, separated only by the hairstyle and the colour of the ties, stood behind two pillars.

*Moral of the story: Shave for the best, and do your job with confidence.

The Day of the Wizard

*This post has the characters from the story of “Mayavi” from the children’s book Balarama owned by the Malayala Manorama Group. I am taking this opportunity to bring back those memories, and at the same time participate in the #WillYouShave activity.

The dark wizard Kuttusan sat there on the side of the river. His hopes of capturing the Mayavi the little devil were all gone now. He looked into the river and saw his face for the nth time and wondered what he had to do to change the situation. He had considered him the Indian Dumbledore as well as Gandalf, just with a little more of the dark shades – but he was failing, even after knowing the bling bling spell. Why? He wondered.

“Yo, kuttusan uncle. I have heard that you got problems” said a man dressed in red.

“Who are you? Dressed in red? Are you the new pilot of our magic spear?” Kuttusan wondered.

“I am Doctor Shave. I have come with a solution to your problems” he said.

The grand team of three, with mega plans being prepared.

The grand team of three, with mega plans being prepared in the renovated dark cave.

“No, we don’t need doctors here. We get healed by magical powers, especially the tlatiluco spell of healing. There is no cure for baldness though, as you can see from my head. Are you from a hair fixing company? I would like that”.

“No, I am talking about your only problem. Mayavi. The one and only Mayavi”.

“What? How do you know? What about it?” Kuttusan asked.

“Everyone in Kerala knows about that. I used to read it as a kid, but it is only now that I understood the right way to do it. Please listen to my advice”.

“Yes, tell me. I am listening”.

“You have to shave” said Doctor Shave.

“What? Why should I do that? This is the symbol of great wizards. Haven’t you watched Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter? Why would you even have that name? Doctor Shave? Dinkan was a better name” screamed Kuttusan.

“Forget my name as it has no point. There is a lot of negativity going around your beard. Haven’t you seen Mayavi? He never grows a beard. All men should shave”.

“Even Luttappi doesn’t grow a beard. What is the use?” Kuttusan asked.

“That is another case. To be successful, you need the minimum use of brain” explained Doctor Shave.

“So, what do you suggest?” Kuttusan asked again.

“This is Gillette Mach3 razor, preferred by Doctor Shave” said the man as he gave it to Kuttusan.

As Doctor Shave left after giving Kuttusan the razor, he finished the shaving process in a few minutes. He felt fresh and ready to begin his adventure. His only real friends in the world and the essential partners in crime, Luttappi and Dakini were shocked to see the new appearance of Kuttusan. But the great wizard said “let’s go! spear power!” as they started their journey on the magic spear to capture the one little devil who had always escaped them.

On the magic spear - the photo after shaving not available :D

On the magic spear – the photo after shaving not available due to security reasons 😀

But on seeing Mayavi resting from a distance, Kuttusan understood the point, which was that there was no real point in what he was doing. He realized that his dark side had become part of his beard as he never shaved for hundreds of years. There was a curse that had passed down to him from generations ago. It had the power of pure evil being passed down to the upcoming generation, something that had awaken when the kid turns youth and grows the beard which was never shaved. Well, now it was broken.

It was the realization that made him ask Luttappi to turn around and go back despite the questions from Dakini. There was no need to capture a little good devil anymore. There were the real devils who needed some real kicking. A good Kuttusan was going to be really terrible for the bad guys. From a distance, Doctor Shave turned into the immortal witch Wraglersterenzul, who had put the spell on the family, and had decided to end the torture. With a smile on her face, she entered the wagon driven by her magic unicorn, and started travelling towards the end of the rainbow where her leprechaun friend awaited with a cup of tea.

*Moral of the story: Shave for the best, and the rest is history.

No More Lies Needed

How can you justify a lie? Yes, there can be many reasons for that. Some people say that it was not really a lie, but somewhat the truth. But lets think about it. Lord Alfred Tennyson has given some idea about the same in his poem, The Grandmother – “That a lie which is half a truth is ever the blackest of lies”. You can add enough ornaments to the lies and make it sound sweet or like truth, but no, that doesn’t justify anything. A lie is a lie, no matter if it comes dressed in gold, silver, pearls or diamonds. There are no sweet lies, and there are no true lies. When you add something to it and make it more believable or lovable, it is another step towards cheating.

This takes me years back, when I was striving to get my driving license, something which I wished to achieve immediately after I turned eighteen. I have had good balance for the two-wheeler and I was driving the car just okay enough. So, I thought that may be I will struggle with the four-wheeler license, but for the two-wheeler, I am surely getting that with ease. For some reason, what happened there was the other way around. I went through the “H” hurdle easily in the Maruti 800, but touched my left leg’s fingers on the ground when taking “8” on that Bajaj M80 which looked like the first two-wheeler on Earth.

I came back from the spot to see that nobody was looking. There was something going on outside the ground and people were busy staring towards that direction. So, nobody knows that my legs touched the ground. But those who studied driving with me had seen.

My first two-wheeler - TVS Centra. Didn't help much in the 8 chase though :D

My first two-wheeler – the TVS Centra. Didn’t help much in the 8 chase though 😀

“It is okay. Nobody knows that your feet touched the ground. Just tell him that you completed it perfectly” one of them said.

“Yes, just don’t tell him that there was any contact with the ground” another one said.

“It can happen to anyone. There is nothing special in saying so” the next one said.

“But the fact remains that I did touch the ground” I said.

My instructor joined the conversation with a man from another driving school, as they came back from whatever was going on outside the ground.

“Listen to the other students. You were always supposed to get the license. I have seen you drive. There is nothing wrong with that. If this happened with the car, that would have been more of a concern. But I have never seen you make one wrong move with the two-wheeler. You can do this with so much ease even in your sleep. Didn’t you see that girl who had to hit the tree to stop the vehicle? That is the kind of driving that deserves no license. This is your first and it is because of the anxiety. It happens. Just tell that you completed the 8 without the feet touching the ground” he said.

“But what is the point of getting the driving license if I haven’t actually qualified?” I asked.

“It is all about being good enough to drive. Nobody is going to ask you to take an 8 on the centre of the road. Actually it is something that you should never do. If you say you touched the ground, you will have to come here on another day after giving the application again. Do you want to do that?” he asked.

“Yes, I would like to get the license when I qualify. If I can’t do this right, I don’t deserve to have a license. I shall come again” I said.

“Okay, go ahead then. It is your choice if you want to try again” he said.

So, I went to the officer and told him that my legs touched the ground once, and I didn’t do it as good as I had expected. He seemed to have a sense of disbelief in his eyes, and told me that it happens to everybody, asking me to make a try on the next date possible with confidence, as it was not a big deal. I came back two week later to claim my two-wheeler license, and it was a quick and steady process.

Part of my license - the two-wheeler authorization added later.

Part of my driving license – the two-wheeler authorization, as you see, was added later.

These days, when I drive, I have had a great amount of confidence with the two-wheelers, something which I never had with the four-wheelers. It is because I got it fair, while with the car, I just did what I was taught to do, as any surprise could have completely taken me off the plans. If I had got the driving license the very first time by lying, I wouldn’t have been this confident. When you choose to tell the truth instead of the lie, even as lying can make things easier and better, there is a satisfaction, and this is something that you can carry on with confidence.

I know that this world will find it difficult to follow the path of truth. I have my own relatives who keep telling the stories of their own or of their sons or daughters who had told lies to overcome a situation and made people fools. They say it as if it is some kind of achievement and these were signs of smartness. They were better than others because they could lie better. They deserved applause because they could handle other people in the wrong manner. Is this the kind of example that we set for the new generation? Isn’t this the main reason for the new generation losing their values?

There is a movie called Philips and the Monkeypen from last year in which there is a conversation between the father and the son – about truth not being bitter, and there is such a feeling of bitterness because lies are just too sweet. Yes, we do get the feeling that lies can get us achieve more. But I wonder what they can gain by achieving all the things in the world if they lose their soul? It will be a permanent mark on their conscience and one day, it can come back to haunt them. Every religion speaks against the lies, from the Ten Commandments to the Noble Eightfold Path.

This blog post was written in association with the Happy Hours campaign “Kitna chain hota hai na sachchai mein” from Kinley in association with Indiblogger. Do spare some time watch the video below, as this campaign from the company shows the significance of being honest and tells us to be dauntless and confident in speaking the truth, no matter how much we are afraid about the same. Remember the old saying “Honesty is the best policy”. Here is one girl showing the right example in Kinley 2014 TVC:

Let there be “Boond Boond Mein Sacchai” in our society, and not the dark lies of selfish motive 🙂 *The images used in this blog post are mine (photos taken by me on my camera), of course.

The Loss of Power

You might have noticed that the last movie I watched in the theatre was on December eight, and I have only published two more reviews of two older movies which I had watched much earlier. I don’t think that this is closer to the end, as the Vampire Bat is running out of Vampire Owls, but this is as close to it as it gets. Nowadays an owl is available only on the phone.

I am not denying the fact that I have watched many movies alone, and going to the theatre all by myself has been part of my life. But the situation seems that nowadays I have to go to the theatre alone all the time. I don’t consider it that interesting, because I need opinions of the people who come to watch a movie with me, and it helps to make sure that my opinion is not completely personal.

Movies keep coming like the waterfalls on a rainy season (taken on my DSC W310)

Movies keep coming like the waterfalls on a rainy season (taken on my DSC W310)

Until the weekend before the last two, the Vampire Bat could find one person to accompany him to the theatre. But things have changed now, especially this year has seen too many of my friends going outside India for studies or work. There have been one friend leaving for Germany, another for Italy, one for the Middle East, one for the United Kingdom, one for Mauritius and seven for the United States of America.

The procedure was complete with last weekend as I was left with nobody to accompany me to the theatres. There are also a number of friends already at Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Pune, with no hope for a movie watching partner. The presence of the eternal NET exams and the never-ending question of a job also complicates things. Then there is the most awesome kitten, Simona the Lionhearted who asks for presence.

I had expectation that I might reach the one hundred with the number of movies I watched this year, but now it seems that I am certain to lag behind, with an improvement of the last year’s statistics nowhere near possible. May be I can get some of my cousins to accompany me, but I don’t have hopes on them, and all those friends and cousins who are married seem completely out of the equation.

The Vampire Bat becomes more of the lone tree (photo details as previous)

The Vampire Bat becomes more of the lone tree (photo details as previous)

I am also having more and more thoughts about concentrating more on this blog, even as Movies of the Soul remain my most popular blog, and it was the one which helped me to go on with something consistently for the first time. But now it seems that it gets me tired and lonely. I feel the a similar emotion as I could sense with Travel Diaries which hasn’t had a post from me for quite a long time, or The Divine Epic which has me posting once in a month. No wonder I am posting on this blog a lot more.

There is still the joy that one gets out of reviewing a movie, which has been more than what I have had while watching one. May be the Vampire Bat is even older than he claims, dating back to more centuries. May be vampirism is slowly becoming extinct. There is no beginning or end to my stories of life, but the Vampire Bat is an entity who hasn’t been too proud of his immortality. May be he can stick to writing reviews about those movies which have left the theatres and may be bring in one flick here or there from the theatre during some lone visits. He actually wants to watch one movie right now. Who knows what the future brings.

What Remains of Christmas

*I would like to begin this post with a statutory warning which has been issued by Uncle Dracula in association with the whole vampire community and a message from Simona the Lionhearted. She asks everyone to wear your helmets during this Christmas, and not to drink too much that you might end up forgetting your helmet, as it is not too different from forgetting the significance of your head. Simona loves her helmet and prefers to save herself inside it, a lesson for all the humans to learn. Use your helmet, no matter what 😀

Simona likes helmets and chooses to save herself. Do you? :D

Now, what can I say about Christmas? I doubt its existence as the big thing that it used to be. It still exists for me because it needs to. There is the loss of power of celebration that I associate with a number of festivals, and I can do the same with Christmas. I haven’t really seen a Christmas carol for ages. But no, this is not a festival that you can let go that easily. Unlike the others, this one keeps coming back, and the best reason for the same may be the time of the festival. May be there should have been full power snow here – that should have worked a lot better.

Christmas has had its charms during the childhood days. There was Santa Claus, and there was hope; even as nobody really gave me the presents; none of those self-proclaimed loving uncles or aunties – not even the big cousin-brothers, when I have seen my dad giving to the relatives, and a lot of my friends receiving from their uncles. Nobody even gave me five rupees to buy black tea. But I still believed at that time, because others did receive, and I thought Santa Claus might give something to me directly.

Every year of not receiving anything, the level of that hope comes down. Now, we are left with the absence of Santa Claus as well as that hope. As it is said in the end of the movie, The Polar Express, “At one time most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found one Christmas that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. Though I’ve grown old the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe”.

The Christmas Crib there - prepared it again after more than fifteen years.

The Christmas Crib there – prepared it again after more than fifteen years for no reason.

We were all dreamers, but when we grow up and choose not to believe – I live in my doubts, created from the chaos that is in my mind. I have been that close to disbelief that I could never believe in anything anymore. Christmas had its magic, but it seems to be disappearing, just like all the traditions and those celebrations that we had. Who wants magic in the world of science, right? Who wants tradition when without it one can be free evil and do anything and everything? Then there are the saviours of traditions who rarely makes sense. There will always be non-believers who choose religion for material benefits.

We are left with people who celebrate the festivals for showing off, or for some random personal benefit. Everyone wishes to show the money power and the Merry Christmas is no longer merry. The only thing that comes with a certainty is its reverse, Remy Martin – people take this as another occasion to drink along with the hundreds that they have ever year, and it passes. Santa Claus gets stuck in the chimney with his reindeer sent to the slaughterhouse and nobody will care – thank God that Mahabali comes from the underworld; he only have to save himself from the pot-holes taking him back to his abode. We have gone on to become a selfish group of people, and every festival has gone on to reflect the same.

The star for Christmas - put it once again after a long time just because I could.

The star for Christmas – put it once again after a long time just because I could.

We have reduced faith in God and it has reflected in our love and care for people. The hatred that we see everyday is just too high. Some people think that it can be solved by converting people into one religion. They are as responsible for this as much as those without faith. We are being thrown into a world of mutual hatred, and it is getting only worse. Whatever happens, the fact remains that we are influenced by more than one religion in our life time, and we don’t belong to just one. Why would Santa want to come and receive the news about Peshawar? Why isn’t there the chance for every child to celebrate Christmas and get the presents? Isn’t there at least a chance for them to live?

We need all the customs and traditions, and we need each and every world religion with all those good things that they teach. The world needs all its beliefs because humanity was shaped by them. We need people to explore each of them, and understand the basic message of love. Lets do something good on this Christmas, and not publish it on Facebook. That would be a good idea. It will bring back a part of the magic of Christmas; lets give it to someone else who is in need. Lets do it irrespective of religion, and let no one take away our right to be good to people, not considering their backgrounds.

I shall keep my doubts, but all of you have a wonderful Christmas nevertheless 🙂

Annabelle’s Own Choice

It is important to be well groomed and nicely shaven, no matter what opportunity we are looking for. It doesn’t mean that it a must, but it is surely a bonus, something that we can’t ignore. There is the advantage of looking better and tidy, and it is impossible to deny it. There might be that important day in your life, which comes to you all of a sudden, and it is the best to shave and be ready for it. Lets take the case of the following story, which includes the famous dolls/toys/action figures (Annabelle, Chucky, Snow Job, Outback and Sentinel Prime).

Swayamvara, that age old practice of choosing one’s own husband from among a goup of suitors, was given to a girl of marriageable age, long ago in Ancient India. It might have disappeared from its own land, but it has managed to thrive in another world, just like Christianity and Buddhism manages to thrive far away from its birthplace, rather than at home. This world is not something that all of you might approve of, but its existence is a reality.

The tears that used to be Annabelle's blood - romantic stuff :P

The tears that used to be Annabelle’s blood – romantic stuff 😛

It was Annabelle’s day. The doll had prepared for the big day, as she prepared for the big function, and the most important day of her life. A lot of dolls were to arrive at her place, and most of them were from far away lands, beyond the oceans, and even from beyond the dark woods and the valley of death. A big feast was arranged for the day, and Annabelle had decided that she would surely choose someone this time.

The dolls had arrived much earlier than they were supposed to, and Annabelle slowly made her way in the middle. She stopped for a second, looked to the right, and immediately put the garland on the neck on one doll without spending much time looking at anybody else’s faces. It was so quick that almost everyone was stunned. The music started and the swayamvara was declared finished. The selected person was Chucky!

Chucky and Annabelle: A match made in the spirit world :D

Chucky and Annabelle: A match made in the spirit world 😀

“I knew she loved me. I knew she loved me” yelled a happy Chucky as he was throwing knives at statues.

“What the hell?” asked Outback, the G.I. Joe. “I am a real American Hero and a Joe. A soldier here, and she chooses the serial killer? What is wrong with her”?

“I am a Sergeant and even I am not chosen, damn it” said Snow Job, his friend and the other Joe who had arrived with lots of hope. “I understand that she is also possessed, but a serial killer is too low for anyone”.

“Even my robotic self was not chosen. I am evil too. Why was I not chosen? We could have taken over the world, my dear Annabelle. I had even made a plan with the Great Vampire Owl about the same. Three time winner of the best robotic beard and I still lose here” said a disappointed Sentinel Prime.

“I win, I win” screamed Chucky as he cut the head of two statues there.

"The Shining" Chucky - he knows what you are cooking :D

“The Shining” Chucky – he knows what you are cooking 😀

“Seriously, this is the best groom you could get?” asked Outback.

“At least, tell us why” said Snow Job.

“Why not? See how well-groomed Chucky is. He is clean shaven and see how well his face looks. He is so cute right after the shave” explained Annabelle.

“Somebody get me a transformer razor” screamed Sentinel Prime as he ran outside.

Moral of the story: Always choose to shave, worry not about the rest.

The Shaving Question

Some people might wonder why, but I remember that my first shave was when I was studying for plus one, and it was in the month of August or September, which I remember because it was just around the festival of Onam, during which the holidays had me going to the ancestral lands and the houses of relatives. One would wonder if it was another holiday, but no, I remember the pookkalam and those celebrities wishing Happy Onam on television during those days.

Why did I start shaving? I would say that it was mainly because I felt that I would look better that way. I haven’t been that much without confidence about most things, but it surely looked like a good idea at that time. It was also to be a confidence booster at that time, especially when there were things that I needed to overcome, and this was to make it better. This was something that I should do, and I made sure about it.

shave (1)

Until then, it was more like “let it grow” until I had chosen to say “let it go”, and there was the day on which I shaved, and then had the confidence to say no. I was forced to choosen the Commerce group for plus two, but that was not really working for me. I changed from Commerce-Mathematics to Commerce-Computer, and that didn’t do the trick. I had realized that the problem was with the school.

I had to get out of that place, but as usual my uncles didn’t want that and they were keeping on telling my father not to allow anything like that. On that day on which I had shaved, and that time I had the courage to say that I was not going to that place any more, not because it was a bad choice to make, but as it was a terrible choice for someone like me who never fit in there. I could tell him that I have another school in mind, even as classes had started there too.

shave (2)

Such mistakes kept happening in my life, but this decision that I made on that day on which I shaved was a big twist in my life. I could make more of such decisions, even as my timing has not always been correct and I have been prone to mistakes for a long time. There are many days that people remember, and I choose to bring this one day back to my mind – the day on which I shaved.

Still, even on these days, the shaved days prove to be better for me. There is nothing like having a groomed face. I have had my days without shaving and keeping my hair long, but those were the worst days of my life, and they are behind me. I would choose not to make the mistake of not shaving and not cutting hair again. That is not the best option, and I learnt it, but well.

shave ()

Moral of the Story: The answer to the shaving question is a big yes. You don’t need to leave your future in the hands of fate or destiny, as one can take it forward with confidence – what you need is a Gillette razor. #WillYouShave? I suggest you choose to do that, because the world moves forward too fast, and you need confidence, and there is also the requirement to make an impression.

Whatever Begins Should End

ISL seems to have begun and ended so early, and we are left wondering what is to do with that time period between six fourty five and nine before sleep. There is an emptiness there, and this absence has basically become a presence, a bloody spiritual presence of something that calls for thinking about the league more and more, especially when sitting with nothing to do. It has finished in style, but we are still left with some memories, especially of the final. The rest have already been taken and locked up.

As I had said earlier in my post (https://theteacerebration.wordpress.com/2014/12/20/indian-football/), this is a final in which both results had the power to make me happy. It was exactly what was delivered on the night. Looking at the sad face of Sourav Ganguly was going to be depressing, and I wondered about a possibility of both teams winning, as Apoula Edel became that mountain that Michael Chopra couldn’t overcome. As I have mentioned much earlier, three of my four suggested teams for the semi-finals also made it to the top four and my favourite two teams were playing the final (https://theteacerebration.wordpress.com/2014/10/01/a-change-or-no-change/).

The legend of these two never ends - the best opening pair ever.

The legend of these two cricketers never ends – the best opening pair in cricket, ever.

I have been a Sourav Ganguly supporter throughout my life. In cricket, his dedication and passion was not rewarded well enough in the last stages of his career, and IPL didn’t give him his due either, as there was only money that mattered there. This year, with ISL coming to the picture, I wondered how it was to turn out, and in the end, as everything seemed to finish off well, that was another case of things becoming fair – as this is the Lord of the Off Side and Prince of Kolkata who brought to us the first team in ISL and had the first big collaboration with the Spanish football giants Atletico Madrid, with all the celebrities at the opposition camp on the day of the final.

There is nothing that Dada hasn’t done for Indian cricket, and there had to be another day on which he had to be on the screen, happy and with his arms raised high in victory, and it was that day. It was the day of the warrior, once again. Even if it is on the stage of other game, the wrongs have to be undone, and Sachin Tendulkar won’t mind, I am sure – he would be supporting good football, especially after watching the match from Chennaiyin. After all, this is a league which is not owned by any organization like BCCI, and Atletico de Kolkata played and won with the right spirit.

Just another photo of them as a psychological move to get support :D

Just another photo of the two legends as a psychological move to get support for this blog 😀

Another fact is that Kolkata deserved the win, coming back with the confidence which they had lost with a loss supported by a disallowed goal which should have been there. They had dominated the league and was at the top for most of the season, and in the end, they also finish first in the league with the final win – sounds fair. Then there is Iain Hume winning the Hero of the League, and Sandesh Jhingan also getting his deserved award. Kerala Blasters, you can be proud. There were still people who didn’t want both these teams in the final, and this match is a slap on their faces. Dadagiri can never be destroyed, and Sachin Tendulkar is forever.

The game had some good moments, and it is the happiness of having two of these teams and not any other in the final. Kerala Blasters can be happy about having reached this stage after being considered one of the worst teams in the league. David James can be delighted about coming this far. More than anything else, they also lost more to a fantastic performance from Apoula Edel, a goal keeper who became the wall. There is also the award won for the best fans, and that is much deserved. My only sadness is that Kerala Blasters didn’t play Pedro Gusmao and Sushant Mathew enough.

The winners of the match, trophy and the soul, with Dada and Mrs. Ambani

The winners of the match, trophy and the soul, with Dada, Mrs. Ambani and the others.

Lets thank Nita Ambani, Star Sports and the rest of the sponsors and people involved for bringing this tournament to a success as it has turned out to be, and lets wait for the next season. Meanwhile, lets appreciate the good things that have happened to the Indian football along with those waiting to happen, and a final which had two teams playing each other with mutual respect rather than trying cheap tricks or getting one sided decision from the referees for no reason. India is becoming a powerful force of soccer, and it is time cricket makes way for football, and tennis is also gaining in popularity, thanks to Roger Federer’s recent Delhi visit.

Finding Possible True Love

William Shakespeare, in his Sonnet Number 116, talks about rosy lips and cheeks. He tells his readers how insignificant the beauty of body is, in the case of true love. This actually takes the case of pre-marital sex away from the equation, and as a post-graduate in English Literature and an admirer of the literature of all times, I have always wondered about those lines from the Bard Of Avon. True love is not completely about beauty and sex, and pre-marital sex is something that defies the same. The media nowadays might think different, but lets not fall for that.

So, a question comes here. Is pre-marital sex in any way related to true love? I would say no. There is absolutely no need for such stuff in true love, because it is beyond all that. It is the superpower of true love. It extends and stays far above one of the most powerful thing among the Seven Deadly Sins – fornication; that is accomplished by true love with ease due to its power. It might be more difficult these days, but there are not many things that true love is not capable of. Ask any religion about this – all of them have been found for the good of humans, even as some people who are actually non-believers, take things out of the context.

Listen to what the great man says - is it too difficult to follow?

Listen to what the great man says, or at least try – is it too difficult to follow here?

True love’s existence itself is something that creates a leviathan of doubts. But saying no to pre-marital sex is a certainty. There is nothing to be doubtful about it because we have grown up in such a world, rich in its traditions and extravagant in its beliefs. We have been taught to say no to many things, and it has helped the righteousness grown strong in our world, which separates us from many other nations of the world. Do we need to descend into chaos? I wouldn’t want that, because we are civilization which has known righteousness and mutual respect since a very long time ago.

Take the case of the poem When You Are Old by William Butler Yeats. Our poet addresses it to his only love that was never fulfilled and tells her that he loves her not thinking about her physical features – he says “one man loved the pilgrim soul in you”. His love is not of random sexual desires which lead to pre-marital sex. It certainly has platonic elements, and the significance of the same is that his thoughts were free but still pure, and not thinking of pre-marital sex. Is it too difficult to listen to the most creative minds, and one of the best Ireland has ever had?

Poems about love - always helps one to believe in it, right?

Poems about love – always helps one to believe in it, right? Just wait till marriage.

The difference between true love and fake love is sex. It stands there between the two separating them, with the fake one taking on the pre-marital sex and the other one tells love to wait for marriage. There is a tug of war going on between the two and the question remains about why one can’t wait? True love waits, and impatience is many things, but not true love. What the lovers need to think about is if it is love or lust that takes over the romance. Is it the infatuation or is it eternal love that you have here – a doubt that is answered only by the existence of absence of pre-marital sex.

Those who support pre-marital sex clearly challenges the idea of true love and are responsible for its near extinction. They are also challenging the Indian culture for the Western tradition which used to be the same at some point of time, but has lost its purity due to giving too much freedom to its people. The freedom that we need is not the freedom of pre-marital sex and similar things, but the freedom to be good and fair. But the West has gone beyond that. Do we need to imitate them? The answer once again is no, except for a few good things.

There are poems, there is romance and there is true love.

There are poems, there is romance and there is true love – but no to pre-,marital sex.

Between all these, take some time to read Poonaam Uppal’s True Love – A Mystical True Love Story. This blog post is also part of the contest related to this work True Love – A Mystical True Love Story by Poonaam Uppal, in association with Indiblogger. Yes, true love needs to win, and it doesn’t need pre-marital sex. It needs trust in one another, and the faith that goes beyond all realms, for eternity. I am hoping to read Poonaam Uppal’s book and take that fictional journey from Las Vegas to the Great Himalayas. *In this post, I share the commonly used image of William Shakespeare from his wikipedia page along with two photos of beautiful poetic verses which I captured from the Botanical Garden of Ooty (all are cropped).

Hope for Indian Football

Days have passed after Kerala Blasters FC overcame all odds as everyone desperately tried to make Chennaiyin FC win by whichever way possible – by giving cards to Kerala players and even sending one off even before thirty minutes had passed, along with allowing a penality for no good reason and even allowing a goal by hand when there was a good view for the referee. Even Chennaiyin’s owner was showing disrespectful actions, and the crowd was not that sporting. There was a high level of play from Chennai’s team, but no righteousness.

But still Kerala Blasters had progressed to the finals becoming the first ever finalists of the league, a position which was reserved for the teams which came first or fourth in the league. They had the power of poetic justice and karma which favoured the righteous who played the fair game rather than those who took another unfair path towards glory, not caring about sportsmanship. It struck lightning on those who played the rough game like what happened to Netherlands against Spain in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final, even as the Orange team was better until then.

But that game had a better referee, but it was not the case here, as every step was taken to ensure that Kerala Blasters doesn’t win the match. But karma once again took over as Marco Materazzi ended up on the wrong side this time, with missing penality and getting a red card just before Kerala scored the winning goal. Yes, nobody messes with Zinedine Zidane and escapes, as the grand curse stays for a long time. They say that Luis Suárez bites, but there are worse things that happen on a football field, and I would consider being bitten better – ask the Vampire Bat (http://moviesofthesoul.wordpress.com/bathistory/)

isll

So what happened on the next day? It was Sourav Ganguly’s Atletico de Kolkata taking on Virat Kohli’s FC Goa. There were two teams who had their first leg as a draw. There was the team of a retired legend cricketer taking on the team of a future legend to take on the team of the immortal cricketer. This time, there is nothing carried over, and one match was to decide things. So, I decided to watch the full match this time without missing any second, as there was no tension for me with my favourite teams everywhere.

My belief was that it was going to be a fair game, and as both Goa and Kolkata had owners who believed in giving their best and as they have been the ones who showed their fighting spirits rather than showing off, I was sure that this one would be a better game of real and fair football even as I was not sure about the amount of thrills. Yes, Goa seemed like a better team, considering the second part of the league. But my love for the City of Joy was eternal just like my admiration for Sourav Ganguly.

But things seemed different this time, as there was no goal at all, compared to the seven we had seen in the other semi-final matches, and it had to end with a shoot-out. Surprisingly, the best from Goa missed the first kick and another one hit the crossbar, giving the match and a spot in the final to Kolkata which had all shots right into the goal. It would be Sachin Tendulkar’s team vs Sourav Ganguly’s team; a match between two teams which had the most attendance during their matches, a treat for the most passionate fans of the league. Yes, this is the dream final. Kerala gets recognition, Sachin is happy and Dadagiri never ends. This is a final in which both results can make me happy.

isl

Meanwhile, I really hope that the fans of the teams had showed more respect to others, and among the fans, I have found the North East fans the best. As a team representing eight states, I have found them to be better than most of the other fans who have been fighting and abusing each other. And John Abraham also deserves a lot of respect for supporting football in the right manner as the righteous as well as the supporting owner, and not being bad towards the rest. I wish NorthEast United FC the best of luck for the next season. May Indian football thrive, and so do the teams which play fair football.

*I am surprised that Amitabh Bachchan said in Twitter that many decisions were against them when everyone in the world felt that referee was the twelfth player of the Chennai team against the Kerala team of ten players. I wonder if Big B changed sides while tweeting it. ***All images used in this blog post are from the official page of Indian Super League at Facebook.

Twilight of the Gods

As a part of the Norse Mythology, this twilight which is more known as Ragnarok includes a number of future events including the death of major gods including Thor, Loki and Odin – not really a happy chain of events for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There will be a great battle between good and evil, and in the end, a new world will arrive. This is not something that is uncommon among most of the religions of the world too, and it should work as if it is a well known thing.

A part of many Scandinavian works including Poetic Edda and Prose Edda, this twilight is something that is expected to come sooner or later. There are things that speeds up such events, bringing more need to such events. Scandinavian mythology might not be interesting for everyone, but these events, in its full strength, cannot be ignored as humans are striving towards going towards that end. After all, almost everyone loves Thor and Loki, thanks to what Marvel has brought to the cinema.

A future Ragnarok in a modern city of chaos and destruction.

A future Ragnarok in a modern city of chaos and destruction.

Yes, we are speeding up the wheel of time as if it is our private property, which means that our time will be limited. We have been infecting our world with matters which are not needed, and taking ourselves down from the better state we have achieved through centuries of knowledge and wisdom brought to us by great people. We are coming down from our respected status, and there are things that contribute to the same, most important of them being a certain amount of uncontrollable lust, which leads to pre-marital sex.

The new generation thinks that it is just too cool, and it has lead to Bollywood also supporting the same. Well, Bollywood has been acting out of its mind for years now, looking only to find ways to make money. They always keep finding new lows to achieve in film making. The question remains about what the new generation attitude achieves. There is no such thing as being “cool”, and it is just part of the many freaky things that the new generation has come up with. We can be pretty sure that they will come up with more, but pre-marital sex surely is not even worthy enough to be categorized into the “cool” category.

Rangarok: you can't stop it, but may be the event can be delayed.

Rangarok: you can’t stop it, but may be the event can be delayed.

The end of the world is just a situation which is waiting to arrive in more than one form. It can be initiated in many ways, and one of them is our loss of morality, and the most saddening thing is that India, with its rich and respectable culture and traditions is losing it. When we think that it is the same thing that has lead to the Western civilization losing its power, I would say that it is an alarming situation, as India has stayed there in between all this development, holding on to its traditions and values. It was something that gained respect, even as some people won’t accept it.

May be the events like Kiss of Love happens to be one step towards this Ragnarok, as something emotional is brought to the camera like porn. Even as there are some good intentions behind it, one has to feel that the end results of that movement is not going to be positive. Can’t they go and kiss the orphan children and the parents abandoned by their sons and daughters? Wouldn’t that be a better Kiss of Love? What we need to hold on to, is our traditions more than anything else. No, I am not supporting any political wing in this case, but it is what can help us thrive; otherwise there is not much difference between humans and animals, as people keep asking for more and more freedom everyday to go outside morality.

Dauntless in Love and Care

I have had very few vacation trips as a kid compared to some of my friends who have traveled a lot. But as time passed, I understood the significance of having a memorable vacation journey which would refresh the mind of any normal person. Among the trips I had during childhood, there were Kolkata, Chennai, Goa, Bangalore and Mangalore which I remember. But I am ready to make sure that my child would have more vacations, and all of them shall be better than what I have had in my entire life. *I am sharing two photos of childhood here, the first one taken at Kolkata and the second one at home with my cousin brother.

I was going through an initiative from Club Mahindra at http://membership.clubmahindra.com/TeddyTravelogues/index.html about travelogues written by children. It reminded me of thinking about myself and how I would go on holidays with my child. The first thing I want to ensure is that I remain dauntless, so that my child would know that I will always be there for him, whenever he feels a certain amount of fear about anything. There is this feeling of insecurity that children feel while going on journeys, and I remember having felt the same on so many occasions. This insecurity is like a big mole on a face, as it affects the beauty of the vacation, and the significance of the journey itself is reduced.

From one of my first vacations ever, to Kolkata - a photo found and scanned.

From one of my first vacations ever, at Kolkata – a photo discovered in the album and scanned.

The fear that children feel outside their home in quite natural, and the current world, we have to be very careful – these are not the best times for the children to grow up either. So, I would make sure that I shall be the friend to him and be the friend that I rarely had during my own childhood. I have to correct the mistakes from my earlier generation, and it is my duty to make sure that he enjoys, and it is a privilege to make sure that I also enjoy the little things that he does.

Even as I strive to make things happen here, another nice thing I would like to add is another person of his own age to give him company. I would choose a family friend who has kids of the same age to accompany us on the journey so that they can nicely contribute to the fun. Otherwise, I will find a relative with a child of the same age. I have been aware of the disadvantages of being a lone child, and I shall never let that happen to my kid, and it is a promise that I have to make to myself.

An old photo with my cousin brother. Never be the lonely child.

An old photo with my cousin brother. Never be the lonely child in a busy universe of chaos.

Well, what is a vacation when the child is not happy? My mother always used to tell me to be happy, or it affects her and destroys the whole purpose of the vacation as it was always about me. She always wanted me to order what I wanted in a restaurant and would have the same thing. This is what I would do, especially when we all have the same thing for food, it is the first step to letting him make decisions during a vacation – his ideas need to be valued. I have had almost no say in even my early education, and I know the pain.

I would let my child explore the world with curiosity, but I will always keep an eye on him, making sure that his vacation universe goes perfectly, and looking at things in the way in which he sees things – it is a perspective that I would enjoy. It will be the best case of happiness for me to see my child enjoying a vacation which I had arranged. It makes my world special. When he loves the journey, my soul takes a leap forward, and it is what we should strive for when choosing a vacation. Let us remember the fact that every step that we make will also teach him something – so lets plan it well to make it a learning experience as well as an entertaining one.

This entry is my submission for the latest Happy Hours Campaign from Indiblogger in association with Club Mahindra’s Teddy Travelogues. I don’t think that Club Mahindra Holidays, a part of the Mahindra Group needs any introduction for any of us Indians. They are among the most commonly mentioned names in their field. What is Bigger than Winning?

*Except for the last photo, the images are from the Official Facebook Page of Kerala Blasters. What I asked is a question that we see in the advertisement for Indian Super League, and it is about what is more important that winning. It says that the answer to that question is winning the league for the first time and becoming the first champion ever. I don’t consider it an interesting one though, as that achievement is something which will stay heavy only for a few years. Shouldn’t the answer have been “winning the league the most number of times”?

Well, I have an answer for the same, and it is “to try your best and earn respect”. Yes, Chennaiyin did well to come back from nowhere to go up, a lot of appreciation is needed for that. That should also mean that one like less for Jeje Lalpekhlua, that is from me, just because I don’t approve handballs. Yes, everybody can’t be Adam Gilchrist or Rahul Dravid, but if they tried to be honest, that would have pleased me. I always love such a good gesture. Yes, the referee also contributed to it, whose fault it remains.

There is no denying the power of this man, no matter what happens.

There is no denying the power of this man, no matter what happens in the end.

I believe that Chennaiyin would have won against Kerala Blasters, but it is karma that let them down. Kerala got the worst of the referee as what happened with Atletico de Kolkata reversed like a tsunami multiple times, with the worst decisions being made against them. But to add to that, Chennaiyin had to add the handball, and I believe that the one moment of cheating took the weapons of karma started its work. Poetic justice – ever heard of it? It will come to you some day, may be in this life or the next. This time, it came earlier.

Well, it is quite usual for the new generation who are taught that there is nothing bigger than winning. It is all about being glory hunters, and we have a lot of them in football. Marco Materazzi’s missing of penality is also about the same – the one thing that made him more famous than the rest, is what he caused to Zinedine Zidane, one of my favourite players of that time. He became a main reason for many of us to dislike the Chennaiyin FC along with the overacting that Abhishek Bachchan was doing at the stadium. That red card was coming for Materazzi, because there is God, and there is Sachin Tendulkar.

If you try your best and still lose, it is still a big thing.

If you try your best and still lose, it is still a big thing. Always fight till the end.

Chennai is my second favourite city in India outside Kerala, coming next only after Kolkata, and every time, I hope to support them in any league and appreciate them coming first on the league table, but something always comes up. With Chennai Super Kings, there was that match-fixing scandal, and there was the owner of the same team controlling the whole cricket in India. Now, even for Chennaiyin FC, there is the co-owner Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and I can’t help not seeing a connection there. I then wondered why the Bangalore franchise was replaced with Chennai.

Even in a match which saw one of the worst refereeing of the whole tournament, the highlight is the effort which both teams put up here, especially Kerala Blasters who fought all odds to win this battle. Nothing seemed to work for them as there was the early red card, too many fouls against them even as the referee gave less number of them, a self-goal, a penality and a goal with a hand – all going against them. It seemed that even Mukesh and Nita Ambani were with Chennaiyin. A defeat was certain there, and with the goal keeper and the best strikers replaced, there was even less hope with a shoot-out.

Seeing a happy Sachin Tendulkar with other senior players = happiness

Seeing a happy Sachin Tendulkar with other senior players and the team = happiness 🙂

Kerala Blasters did hold on though, and when wonder how this poetic justice worked like a dream, the name of Sachin Tendulkar comes to one’s mind. This is another gift to one of the greatest sportsmen India has ever produced, and it would be great if the other team in the final is Atletico de Kolkata, but the three teams that remains now are my favourites, and I will only be extremely delighted no matter who wins this first ISL – let it be Kerala, Kolkata or Goa. What about Sachin Tendulkar vs Sourav Ganguly in the final – wouldn’t that be awesome?

*Even if Kerala Blasters had lost today, they would have won hearts, but they chose more, and the fight they brought is more important than winning. Despite what the owners, coaches, some fans and the officials have been doing wrong, Chennaiyin team also deserves respect for making this attempt. One thing I admire about Abhishek Bachchan is that he stood with his team till the end making every team wish that they had an owner like him, otherwise I am not a fan of him with what he is showing on the ground and in the movies.

And then there is my friend Praveen Joy who managed to click one with Sachin :O

And then there is my friend Praveen Joy who managed to click one with Sachin :O 😀

Thank You Kerala Blasters! TeNy

Not the Centre of the World

Some people think that they are the centre of the world, and everything should revolve around them. I don’t mind if they are made the sun and all the other lesser people who are the planets had actually wandered around, heating the tea on the sun’s head and drinking the supernova brand of the drink. I have had the privilege and honour of having a lot of such people around me, but there are only a few things which have surprised me more these days. *The images used in this blog post are from the wikipedia page of the solar system.

I don’t usually go to any forums, and I have kept that policy going for years. I am not that much of a talker, and interaction has never been my special ability. But one day, I became curious, and thought that I had to see what the fellow bloggers would be talking about, and then I realized that the blogger world doesn’t have that much of the radiance that I thought it had. Yes, I had believed that almost all the bloggers wrote for the same reason – to bring to light your ideas, memories and feelings (not considering previews, reviews and such stuff), but it turns out that it is not that much there.

I am so big, everyone else is so small; how can I not win a contest?

I am so big and awesome; how can I not win a contest? Some people choose to wonder.

Yes, it was the only reason why I started all of my blogs. My first two blogs were in blogspot which I used for my personal thoughts as well as about the world. I also had two other blogs which had fictional stories which I connected to my life as well as the movies I watched. Then I settled with four blogs at wordpress which I still have. I started the first one for my wander quests and the next one for my movie love. The third one was futuristic fiction in which characters reflected my philosophy, and this last one is about random thoughts.

Coming back to my point, don’t we all write to satisfy our need to write? I thought that it was why people started blogs. I agree that there are people who write to get paid, but isn’t the love for writing the most important thing? Then you ask about writing for contests. Well, we shouldn’t sacrifice our ideas for that. The participation should be because we have another challenging topic to write on, and not just for material benefits. When I am given a topic, I am happy that it is given to me. Even at the college, when I got an assignment, I was extremely happy.

Yes, we should expect the prize, whatever it is. But we can’t always expect to win something. You win something at times, and there are occasions when you win nothing after trying too hard. It is the way of life. Sometimes, you might end up winning nothing for years. But it shouldn’t mean anything. Participation is the most important thing and the one thing for which we should strive for, and the hope for prize should only inspire us – shouldn’t make us desperate, unless you are hosting the contest by yourself.

Respect the right of others to win and also the right of the sponsor.

Respect the rights of others, my dear pseudo-fire-starters – it is all part of the chain of events.

If there is a contest sponsored by a certain firm, it is your option to participate in it or not to. You might or might not win the prize. You should write because you got another topic brought before you and the prize is just something of a special motivation. Nobody owes you anything, and you don’t have the bloody right to come out of it with a prize, as if there is something like the certainty of death. I think that those who make ridiculous comments for not getting rewarded is no real blogger. Some people do talk about it in a respectable manner whether it is personal or objective – I respect that, but there are others. Your best reward should be your mental satisfaction and then the likes and those positive comments.

Yes, appreciation is a must. But it is not something that is gained by winning contests. It is something that is won in the long run by people reading your work and admiring it, getting mention for the huge amount of effort you have been putting into it for years. A contest will have its winners and it is their right to choose, and if it is a contest with a first come first serve basis an you were not fast enough, you have no right to blame anyone. Yes, one can protest, but in a dignified manner. We are not little kids looking to win prizes and cry otherwise. Even in some of the most difficult computer games, you win experience by just trying.

I have lost more contests than I have won, and I have often put my contest entries at the wrong place. But I haven’t complained and neither have I mentioned it somewhere. I should have contacted the support team of the website and asked them to change my entries to the right place. But no, I didn’t do that because I have self-respect and I understand that it is my mistake for which I shouldn’t bother the site’s team; and I can win something someday if I try hard – and I don’t consider my attempts a waste. I accept rejection because it is a fact of life.

Lets respect the fact that there are contests. There could have been life without it. I shall write on a contest as long as the topic has even a small thing of my interest. There is effort taken to publish a post, and I love to take that effort, because I am a blogger and this is what I do. There is no waste here and I choose not to hide my thoughts for a prize. I am a blogger because I write unconditionally. Even when the need for appreciation keeps honking at me, it is my pledge and my privilege to keep writing even with none. It is something that I have promised myself, with the certainty of a vampire drinking blood and a zombie eating brains.

As Indi(an) bloggers, We Blog, Therefore We Are – right? I choose not to challenge my existence. I also choose not to interfere with your choice. Keep blaming your stage, my dear performers; if you need to – but I don’t consider it a righteous move.

Choice of Eternal Dislike

[The story so far: The wizards join at the grand tower to make sure that their sons and daughters choose nothing other than the Dwarven engineering or the Elven healing. They go back from the tower to come up with further plans for such people for making them deviate from their path or somehow destroy their current career so that they would rather sit at home instead of following a career path that they don’t like] https://theteacerebration.wordpress.com/2014/11/22/the-wizards-choice. *The images used in this post are screenshots from my time spent in the game, Spell Force 2.

For the same, the Wizard of Wind alighted from his dragon and travelled to the nearest Dwarven village through the portal, accompanied by his warrior minions to make sure that more steps were taken to degrade the usual courses. The Dwarves were very good at degrading others because they had formed a certain amount of hatred for the rest of the world as they sat there on their superiority complex. It was due to them being forced to choose the same career against their will, and wanted the same to happen to everyone else too. They also wanted to rule the world in one way or the other, and their hatred for Elves was lessened only by their more intense hatred to everyone else.

The wizard had thought that they should travel to the Elves, but had no big opinion about the healers by himself. He had chosen the Dwarven Engineering as the best path. It would have been a one step backward for him, even as he considered it to be a fair thing too. After all, there existed more than one kind of elves.

The Wizard of Wind has to keep his dragon outside to enter the portal.

The Wizard of Wind has to keep his dragon outside to enter the portal. Still fair.

“Keep your minions outside. Only if your son or daughter has studied Dwarven Engineering, can you can enter. Otherwise choose to go back” said the Dwarven security guard at the village.

“Yes, my son has studied it. He is even working a lot hard these days, far away from home”.

“Then, come and have a seat. As you are a wizard and spends your time saving the world, we are not asking you for any proof for the same. I hope your son can’t come back home very often. It is what the Dwarven Engineering is about. We make sure that all your sons and daughters earn the most money and also separate them from their families, leaving them in a different world where they can prosper and reach new heights. It also gives you an opportunity to blame the rest of the people who are with you”.

“It is not why I am here. There is the need to destroy the focus of one of my nephews who is following a different path. He is going to write some tests, and we have decided that he shouldn’t get a job, and for the same, we should destroy his concentration. We can’t really stand him getting any better in his path. We want him to deviate from there and listen to only what we say”.

“So where is this person right now? Can I see him?” the Dwarven Eldar asked as he entered the room.

“He is writing literature and studying the same with Halflings in the land of Perumburia”.

“Damn those Halflings. They seem to think that they are better than us just because we have the same height. But there is nothing that stands against the Dwarven Engineering. We create everything in this world, and they think that supporting creativity and imagination is to help them gain anything in this world? Teaching love and passion is stupid. Everybody should only be making money, and that is what they should have always been thinking about. We shall attack them one day with our newly created weapons and armour”.

“Can you just give an idea to stop him right now? We are desperately in need of something. We can’t think properly now”.

The portal connects the lands, as the Wizard of Wind enters the village.

The portal connects the lands, as the Wizard of Wind enters the Dwarven village.

“Are you out of ideas all the time? Just keep giving him some jobs to make sure that he doesn’t study. At the same time, make them look very important so that he can’t deny them. Never help him with his academics and make him feel that what he is doing is insignificant. Also use words about how he is not good enough, and praise everyone else other than him and make him feel inferior and a complete waste with your talks. Here, take this Guide to Destroying the Hopes of Others” said the Eldar as gave the book to the wizard.

“I can do that with ease. I shall always praise my son and make sure that I blame him for something everyday. Everything that he does can be used against him, and each word that he says will be considered as a weapon against him, which means that he won’t do anything that we don’t like. How often should I do it? Everyday before food or just three times a day”?

“Wizard dude, this is not a medicinal tablet. Just do it as much you can. There was not even the need for this if we were not infested by hatred”.

“Okay. But one question haunts me. Why are these Dwarves under the sofa here playing hide and seek? Are you not supposed to be awesome engineers who do nothing other than science”?

“These are kids. We all look the same from the age of eight. This is why we are called Dwarves. Do you get it?” asked an angry Eldar.

“Yes, of course. Right. I think I should leave. Here is the price for your advice and the book” said the wizard as he gave the Eldar two magic orbs and left the place.

“Is it even going to work?” asked the guard.

“I am pretty sure about it. Halflings are a weaker breed. Those who stay with them are also supposed to be weaker. May be he will kill himself. It should be the best part of the same. One person less would be good” replied the Eldar.

“Let’s play some mind games with these people, right”?

“Yes. They will have the same opinion all the time, and nothing will change about it. So lets see how it goes. One thing is sure though, that this is going to create a terrible influence on the boy as well as his parents. I wonder why these people are saying things like these to their own brother whose son is targeted. That would also lead him to worry a lot for absolutely no reason. But this is something that we enjoy. There will always be the option to study and go for a job, but that will never work as every second will be strain”.

The wizard had begun his journey back to his people, guarded by his warrior minions against the foul creatures around. It was tiring, but he knew that he had everything that he wished to have, and it was something that would bring joy to everyone. He made his way back to the portal that took him back to his dragon which transported him back to the wizard’s tower.

The Conquest of Fear

Watch the ad that shows Arya’s journey from fear to victory with Mountain Dew.

There are not many things stronger than fear. Some people will say that there is faith, others will believe in hope, but the strength of fear is, at most of the times bigger than any of these other things. People do things or hesitate to do things just because of fear, and it is not something new – it is a fact that we can see through centuries; history proves the same during its passage through ages. There is the need to conquer this fear if we have to progress in life. Don’t we all need to #RiseAboveFear?

I have had my fears, and even as I have never really made a list about the same, I am certain that one of the bigger fears were my fear of the heights. Yes, I have rarely dared to go to the heights and take a look below. Even when I did, I have mostly been holding on to something and chanting prayers. But that had to change with a journey, and it was that day on which we decided to go to Malayattoor.

The beautiful altar serves as a blessing to our journey.

The beautiful altar serves as a blessing as well as a confidence booster to the journey.

For those who don’t know about this place, it is a pilgrimage centre about fifty kilometres from Cochin, with a church located at the top of the hill, where Saint Thomas the Apostle is supposed to have prayed there. It is believed that, after arriving at Kodungalloor in AD 52, he stopped at Malayattoor on the way to Mylapore. This is one of the most visited Christian pilgrimage centres in Kerala and should be the top holy destination in the whole of India which is not dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

So, when my friend told me that this time he is visiting the place alone as his father was not well and won’t be able to climb the hill, I decided to give him company. This was to be my first successful climbing of a hill, as I have been afraid until then. I have tried to go up this hill, but never even reached near even quarter of the distance, as I got worried and came back every time – a total of three times until then.

The rocks are nothing just the path to our final destination

The rocks are nothing but just the path to our final destination at the top of the hill.

It was easier for him, as he has already been to the top many times. I was still worried about the slippery rocks which stood on the way, and my inability to maintain balance due to fear was evident. He was faster and had to stop regularly to wait for me. The sights of older people and devotees climbing while holding different types of big crosses on their shoulders were more of the inspiration for me.

The church at top of the hill awaits us reaching there.

The church at the top of the hill awaits us to reach there, surrounded by nature.

I wondered why I was thinking about myself as so weak, and was being too afraid. The fact that it was a pilgrimage strengthened me. I felt that this was the moment to get rid of the fear, and something like this will only strengthen me for future. If I can’t climb to the top now, my fear was never going to end, and I would never have any confidence about myself.

The old altar also awaits us believers on the top of the hill.

The old altar with its own antiquity also awaits us believers on the top of the hill.

So, I stopped at the beginning stages of the journey and had a Mountain Dew, one of my favourite soft drinks. It has been what I always preferred to have, along with Mirinda and 7Up. So I continued that journey upwards, and I decided to make it as fast as possible. There were so many people around, and as people of all ages were doing the same thing with confidence, it helped me a lot in gaining the confidence.

One of the views before reaching the top - fair enough to inspire.

One of the views before reaching the top – quite strong enough to inspire anybody.

It took me much less time for me to reach the top as I decided not to stop at anything, not for my fear of looking down and neither for my doubts about reaching the top, and I have never been happier when I was at the top. I considered it my greatest achievement against the fear, and I was not afraid anymore. We wandered around there, prayed and had another bottle of Mountain Dew along with clicking a few photos.

And then I was at the top; I couldn't be any happier.

And then I was at the top; tired and of lesser strength, but I couldn’t be any happier.

After giving Saint Thomas his due and spending our time in prayers, we slowly came down, and I had no fear in coming down, as I had conquered what I thought I couldn’t. I was sure that this was only the beginning of my big journeys to the heights. It was the end of a journey and the beginning of the confidence which had me not that worried about the heights any more. On the way back, we stopped at the Indian Coffee House at Kalady and had tea to plan another journey, after this victory.

And then it was the time to take a look towards the beauty of nature.

And then it was the time to take a look at the beauty of nature, along with having some rest.

*All photos used in this blog are from my journeys to Malayattoor at different times, taken on my Sony Cybershot DSC-W310. This blog post was written as part of Mountain Dew‘s “Rise Above Fear” Happy Hours campaign in association with Indiblogger. A Dream World to Visit

There are only a few places which have imprinted themselves enough in my heart to inspire a journey there. Among them, there are almost none outside the Europe and the Americas except for Melbourne, a city which has had my attention since my early cricket loving times which seems to have lasted an eternity, or a significant part of it. So how did the second most populous city in Australia become the most loved city in my list overtaking the other big names including Sydney, Dubai, Wellington, Riyadh, Doha, Pretoria, Cape Town and Sharjah?

1. The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG): This stadium has been in my list for quite a long time, above many of the other cricket venues of the world. The largest stadium in Australia as well as the whole Southern Hemisphere, this eleventh largest stadium in the world and largest cricket stadium has a special memory from my cricket loving past for me. There has been only one One Day International century by an Indian at the MCG, and it was by Sourav Ganguly – the Lord of the Offside; not to be considered the God, but undoubtedly the greatest of India’s left-handed cricketers. There was no more of ODI centuries by an Indian there again – shows how good the man used to be. That makes MCG our holy place.

2. Melbourne Park: There are not many things I wish for, more than watching my favourite players go against each other, especially Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Australian Open has been among my favourite tournament and I have admired it as much as The Wimbledon. It is a tournment where my three favourite players, Federer, Djokovic and Agassi hold record for winning it the most number of times. It is also that Grand Slam which has given us new stars, like Marcos Baghdatis, Fernando Verdasco, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Fernando González, also leading to the big rise of players like Stanislas Wawrinka, making the tennis world more competitive. Who wouldn’t want to go to Melbourne Park? One day, I will.

St Paul's Cathedral keeps calling one to have a look with its beautiful interiors.

St Paul’s Cathedral keeps calling everyone to have a look with its beautiful interiors.

3. St Paul’s Cathedral: I have seen this Anglican cathedral in pictures, and I was like, why do you always think about Europe when feeling the need to go to a beautiful church? This one is right there among those church buildings of the world that I wist to visit. I have seen a number of cathedrals in Europe in my life, and this one surely has a certain amount of divinity as I keep staring at the photos. The inside of the structure clearly overtakes the outside in its beauty and this is one Gothic building that can make even the horror fans proud along with spiritual ones. The Anglican Diocese of Melbourne as well as the residents of the city can be proud of this creation of man for God.

4. The City Circle Tram: I had developed a certain amount of love for the trams since my early childhood journey to Kolkata, but this one that we witness in Melbourne is not just simple tram, as it has so much of beauty about it. There is that one day when you accidently go through the photos of these beautiful transportation vehicles, and there is nothing left to do but admire them and hope to take a journey in it. There is something about trams, it is related to the beauty and the antiquity – but the tram that we see here is more than that, or the highest point of all of them.

A dram: to travel in this tram, not like any other tram in the world.

A special tram here: to travel in this tram, not like any other tram in the world.

5. St Patrick’s Cathedral: Belonging to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, this is also added to my long list of churches which are to be visited in my lifetime. I have already visited around a thousand churches in my life, and I have kept a count of the same, even as it is more or less accurate. Among the churches to visit, this also has a prominent place, as I have been searching for more each and every day. I have read that it is the largest church building in the country and that adds to the interest. May be, one day I can join this archdiocese, in case a jobless me gets a job there.

6. State Library of Victoria: I have been to many libraries in my life, as I have been quite a reader – but nothing like this one in Melbourne. I saw the structure and wondered if it is really a library or rather something else. I compared it to those which I have visited and thought about it only to feel the respect for the care that is given to history, architecture and over them all, to the procedure of reading. Along with wondering if I can see anything like this in my lifetime, I also feel that something like this won’t be enough, and only witnessing this building and satisfying my hunger for reading can make me happy, leaving me with some respect for myself as a reader.

St Patrick's Cathedral becomes one big Gothic reason to visit Melbourne.

St Patrick’s Cathedral becomes one huge Gothic reason to visit Melbourne.

7. Eureka Tower: I am going to climb to the top of this tower, and enjoy the top view as this would become the tallest building I have ever been to. Yes, I have been to the Petronas Towers, but never went to the top, and was also close to visiting Burj Khalifa, but as those things never happened, I wish to start with the Eureka Tower’s observation deck which will officially begin my skyscraper love. Formerly the tallest residential structure, it is now the fourteenth tallest residential building in the world, and I am reserving quite some attention for this one. What I am planning is to yell “eureka” after climbing to the top of the tower and taking some awesome photos.

8. 120 Collins Street: This one comes next and adds to my skyscraper visiting needs as there are lots of things that the structure reminds me of. This reminds me of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building of the New York City – I would choose to visit this one and consider myself having visited all three of them. This has that kind of architecture which has stuck to my mind for too long, thanks to those Hollywood movies – I don’t think that I will be visiting the United States of America, and therefore I choose Melbourne to satisfy my need to get to such a structure and hope this can be done some day.

State Library of Victoria: a need to make the reader in me lot happier.

State Library of Victoria: a huge need to make the reader in me lot happier.

9. St. James Old Cathedral: There is no avoiding the older ones no matter how many new structures come up. The oldest church in Melbourne also gets my attention, and it is only one of three buildings in the city which has a history before the Gold Rush of 1851. With its foundation in 1839, there is no way that this cathedral should not be visited during a journey to Melbourne, and I would wish to start my possible journey in Melbourne from this one, as this has been home to God for more time than any other such structures in this city. There is always value for antiquity, and it demands respect and admiration.

10. The Melbourne Museum: My need for the museums have always been alive, and it has been with me through all the journeys that I have made throughout my life. I have visited a good number of them during my journey to the United Kingdom and I wish to do the same with is one belonging to Melbourne. There is no man without his dose of history, and I respect this city for having a wonderful place as this one for keeping the past saved for present and the future. A post-modernist style museum? Let me tell you something – I have always only dreamt about such a building. Night at the Museum, this is your time to bring the exhibits alive.

I have given ten reasons in this blog post for which I love this wonderful city and hope to travel there. So far, I have traveled to four nations in detail, and another one just as part of a longer journey – the four are the United Kingdom, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Malaysia along with the fifth, the United Arab Emirates. My hope is to add Australia somewhere in that list, and it would be just awesome. I would also like to add a journey through the Yarra River as a special need along with looking down from the top of the tallest office building in the Southern Hemisphere, the Rialto Towers.

Spare some time to watch a “Come Alive in Melbourne” video from http://bit.ly/CAMvideos – I would personally choose

Do visit the Tourism Victoria website (http://www.visitmelbourne.com/India.aspx). *All photos used in this blog post of mine are from the wikipedia pages of the respective tourist attractions.

Hosting a contest below:

So, one question remains here. “Which of these places would you want to visit in Melbourne and why?” [The best answer chosen is eligible to win a gift voucher from Tourism Victoria as it says in the contest page (as long as this entry of mine is accepted). The contest will end by 4th Jan 2015]
